Oestrogel versus Oestrodose
« on: August 11, 2018, 09:19:07 PM »

Hi - I did a search for this before on this site and it made me a little nervous.

I have been using Oestrogel for 3 months, initially 2 pumps then 3 pumps after 3 months.  After seeing the specialist this week I have increased to 4.

When I got my prescription I noticed it had a different brand name but didn't think anything of it (I'm an ex-pharma rep so am very used to different names etc)   One thing I did notice is that the bottle was different and that the gel was far more runny.  Now, if it does the job then all is good, but I was worried about other people complaining about stuff they think is down to the difference in products.

Legally there cannot be any difference in what the medication actually includes, so I suppose it's like anything...  you can get one type of tablet ie. paracetamol, but another generic house will supply the same drug but the consistency, ie, might crumble more easily is something that happens often.

So I am holding my breath, because I've had a rough enough ride already.  If this one takes longer to sink in then I will continue to be grateul that I am actually getting it prescribed..........

Hi Jasmine

I've just done a post on this recently - please see this thread https://www.menopausematters.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,40586.15.html and the detailed posts I've made with extracts from my correspondence with the manufacturer Besins. No need to worry - they are exactly the same - according to Besins they are all manufactured at their site in Belgium but Oestrodose is the name given to the French product and some of the other countries. It's all the same ingredients bottled into in the same pouches - just a different outer carton. Some women report a perceived difference - but this might be due to different temperatures or expectation of a difference since they appear different/. Please be reassured that this product is estradiol gel identical to Oestrogel  - we have no reason to think otherwise from the information we have been given :)
