Hello
« on: August 07, 2018, 01:10:50 PM »

I'm a new member and looking for advice regarding coming of HRT and the feeling of tingling, muscle pain, creeping sensation in left leg and arm..  I started HRT after my hair fell out and for breast tenderness.  I stopped taking them two weeks ago after the doctor thought they may be causing migraines but my leg and arm feel heavy, achy and tingly.  Not all the time but on and off.  I have been a bit stressed lately and get feelings of anxiety and rapid heart rate but just anxious about sensations in limbs.

Thank you

Hello. I'm new too. Someone on this helpful forum recommended a website called 34 Menopause Symptoms. If you haven't been on it already, go and have a look now. It certainly would seem to mention what you are describing (symptom 33?). I myself have had lots of pins and needles and tingling since my perimenopause began. I read somewhere that it can be due to certain mineral and vitamin deficiencies so you might want to look into that aswell. I take magnesium which is also supposed to help with the anxiety! I can't comment on your HRT situation at all (someone will!) but you say you went on it for hair thinning and breast tenderness. The 34 symptoms website is very good on both of these. Hope you get some help soon. Assume you have been or will go back to the doctor for some follow up very soon anyway? Have the headaches eased? I'm sorry you feel so awful and can empathise a great deal with your anxiety and breast tenderness issues (my own particular specialisms  ;D) xxxxx

Hi and welcome to mm Betty

Do tell us more about yourself eg how old you are?
Where are you in your menopause?
When was you last natural period?
What type of hrt were you using?
What menopause symptoms were you getting before you started HRT.
Did HRT help generally?

If you were getting headaches then switching to transdermal HRT would have been the best option.

I doubt the symptoms you are getting are just because you came off hrt so I would definitely pop to the GP and get checked out.
It's sometimes good to take a break from hrt but headaches are common when meno hits whether on hrt or not. DG x

I am 50in October, had a hysterectomy about 10 years ago but still have my ovaries.  My HRT was Proygnova 2mg.  I'm not sure if I'm really peri menopausal as I only had a few hotties but it was mainly my hair loss that bothered me, I was devastated to loose so much so quick.  The HRT didn't help it grow back but it did stop anymore shedding.  After stopping the HRT two weeks ago I was tearful, anxious and really tired but only for a few days and not all at once.  I actually feel really well know apart from pain in left leg and arm.  When I saw the GP and she said to come of HRT she arranged a follow up referral with a neurologist.  I saw one last year when I had left sides numbness.  I was clear of a stroke etc but the numbness, pain has continued on and off.  I am seeing another GP today about my leg and arm so I shall see what she has to say.  Good point of coming if HRT, I have she 5 lbs in two weeks - been doing Weight Watchers and couldn't budge a pound but it's know gone.  Just hope it's nothing else causing it.  Thank you

See what the doctors say.  If you do feel you need HRT again, I would suggest you go for transdermal oestrogen as patch or gel.  You are young to be oestrogen deficient so oestrogen for another 5 years to protect your heart and bones for the long term would probably be beneficial.  DG x

What age do you have to be to be oestrogen deficient?
I've had patches before and hated them and I've had too much oestrogen before which is also unpleasant.  I feel it's a fine line of what suits one and not the other.  I worked hard with my GP to find the one that worked for me and the only reason I've stopped them is because of the headache/migraine query.  I started HRT because my hair came out really quickly and it returns my hair loss to normal levels.  I say this has an effect on hair loss because when I was on a dose that was too strong for me my hair grew and grew like mad, which was great, but the rest of me felt terrible, sore boobs, moods etc etc etc.

I'd suggest oestrogel, it's fanrastic for finding the right dose, you can start at 1/2 pump and work up every so often until you feel settled at a particular dose

I have hair shedding, and like you my initial attack was very quick and very shocking, testosterone has really helped and my hair is in better condition x

Yes Butty (love a chip butty btw lol)
Oestrogel/oestrodose is a prescription oestrogen gel which is great for the individual to find their best dose x

Your symptoms in the limb could be ought or nowt  ::).  Perhaps an X-ray or MRI scan?  Check your mattress.  Check how you sit when working, relaxing.

As oestrogen levels drop muscles may become lax ........

Hormones  >:( can cause carpal tunnel syndrome too and during pregnancy can cause various symptoms which stop after delivery.
