Baby leaf salard. What's that all about?
« on: August 03, 2018, 03:10:27 PM »

I have always loved salad but I like it with crunch. It is increasingly the habit of serving baby leaf salad in restaurants, often not specifing that is what it is. Don't get me wrong I am sure lots of people like it. However, for me it's limp and when dressing is add positively soggy. I would almost prefer iceberg to baby leaf.

What with that and wooden platters instead of plates eating out is becoming annoying.

Rant over  ;D

I thought that wooden platters were now illegal in the catering trade due to hygiene issues so was surprised when we ate at a posh place a couple of months ago, where food was served on olive wood odd-shaped 'plates'.  No  room to push a leaf around leave alone cut my cheese!

Baby leaf is probably 'cut and come again' salad which has been left in the cooler for too long!  Then it's tarted up with some kind of 'dressing'  ::).  Rabbit grub  ;)

We ate out yesterday, the ones who chose burger options had them served on a wooden board...no way would I eat off of them.
I like baby leaf salad🙈🙈

I refuse to eat off wooden boards or bits of slate.  we went for a pub meal in Leics last summer and they presented it on lumps of slate and I asked them to take mine away and put it on a plate.

I also hate those mini metal chip baskets they use in some places. What IS the point?

I dont think wooden boards are hygienic and slates just set my teeth on edge as your cutlery scrapes across it.

I LOVE roasted veggies  :-*

I obviously have little to do this evening  ;D

We're with @WeWantPlates: let's put an end to food served on wooden boards

Rhodri Marsden loves new Twitter feed, @WeWantPlates, for its refusal to eat off anything but a plate.

What is it with wooden boards anyway? And since when has such a concept ever worked?

I much prefer plates too,
And as for salad, it just has to be iceberg lettuce,
I then add other stuff to mine.
This baby leaf stuff is rubbish........

I think it must be cheaper and easier or just a fashion thing. Do wish they would say on menus though, instead of green salard or mixed.  Rocket is OK, just.

Usually I avoid salad and coleslaw.  Plates are rarely large enough!
