Life after HRT
« on: July 18, 2018, 01:21:16 AM »

Been off HRT since October 2017 and I'm so miserable. Was advised to come off as I was diagnosed with DCIS but I feel so low, I can deal with the flushes and even the night sweats, what I am finding hard is the feelings of anxiety and paranoia. My moods go up and down, I snap at my partner, even to the point where I believe he doesn't love me anymore, he says I'm talking nonsense but this doesn't help. I'm seriously considering trying a low dose HRT. I've tried alte4native remedies, changed my diet but nothing can replace the lost hormones. Don't know what to do for the best.

Hi.

Sorry you're feeling like this. It definitely sounds like you need to go back to your GP. The "Treatments' section on here is very useful for helping you work out what the appropriate options are for your situation.

Youu've done really well putting up with those symptoms for all these months but life's too short for that rubbish, especially the anxiety etc which I agree is worse than the physical stuff. Get yourself to the GP asap!  Good luck to you xx

I'm with Tiddles, it's awful feeling like you are feeling.  What's DCIS?

Go to your doctor and tell them that you want HRT because life isn't worth the effort without it.  If you were on one that worked, go back to it.  Perhaps at a lower dose to start if that's possible, just to see how little of it you need to kill the dreadful blues.

Anxiety and misery has been a huge part of my menopause story.  And snapping at people.  Anyone.  Swearing at random man in car park was a recent low point.  Mind you, he was being a pathetic idiot...

Don't put up with it.  GP's will do/say almost anything to get us off HRT.

Thank you both for your responses, I'm def going to make an appointment with my GP.
DCIS or Ductal Carcinoma in Situ is a type of breast cancer, confined within the milk ducts, mine was detected very small and very early and treatment has been a success. Although they can't make you stop HRT they don't recommend it as there very little info on the type I had and HRT. I came off it under my own steam but I feel progressively worse, before I was confident, happy, now I constantly second guess myself.

Can you ask for a referral to a meno specialist, to ask about HRT post BC.
My meno specialist said that HRT wasn't ruled out as long as you were out of the active disease period.
Sorry to hear you're feeling awful, my big worry is having to give up HRT.

Hi undergroundbarbie,

I can't advise on HRT because I haven't tried it yet, but I can very much empathise with your anxiety and how awful that is. I too have been suffering since last autumn and have only recently made the connection to the menopause.

From what I'm learning about all the different HRT available I'm sure you can find something suitable for you. Definitely go and see your GP.

Take care
