Hrt and type 2 diabetes
« on: March 21, 2018, 12:51:01 PM »

Is it safe to take hrt in tablet form if you are a type 2 diabetic does anyone know?
I'm seeing specialist next month and was wondering if this could be an option for me. After 6 weeks on evorel 100 I've come to conclusion  it's not helping with my sweats which is my main problem apart from anxiety which I doubt any hrt will help with. X

Hi there

I have picked an HRT tablet at random - Elleste Duet 2 mg and looked at the product info. Diabetes is listed as a condition which requires supervision but is not contra-indicated as such: https://www.medicines.org.uk/emc/medicine/20963/SPC/Elleste+Duet+2mg/ . I am sure there have been diabetic members of this forum in the past.

I presume you've had a hysterectomy or have a Mirena hence no mention of progestogen? If your sweats have not reduced then surely you are not absorbing well from the patch and I suggest for you a trial on estrogen gel might be better than a tablet since much is lost in digestion and metabolism with oral HRT?

I'm in peri and I'm using utrogestan 100mg 12 nights vaginaly. I still have some gel from when I tried it so will give it another go as the reason I gave up on it was because it didn't help with my anxiety but I think it did help the sweats. At least that will solve one problem x
