Continuous HRT & bleeding
« on: March 20, 2018, 01:34:05 PM »

Hi,
I have been using Estrogel & Utrogestan continuous HRT since January (I had the progesterone added after an oophorectomy last August), and I have been bleeding non-stop now for FIFTY DAYS!!! It has been heavier rather than lighter this week, & I am really getting exhausted & fed up with it. I know that some bleeding is normal when you change to a new HRT regime, but this seems excessive, & I am now actually wondering whether HRT is worth it at all. Has anyone else had similar problems or could offer some advice? Thanks so much

Hi

I don't know much about continuous bleeding on hrt.

I had it with combined pill and was told it was due to not enough/not strong enough progestogen.

Are you due a review after your change in regime?  It probably needs a tweak.

Women using Mirena sometimes have continuous bleeding because the lining becomes too thin and end up needing more oestrogen

willotty - I had this problem with Utrogestan as it's not good at keeping the womb lining thin.   Consider changing to a sequential regime or try Provera instead of Utrogestan.  If you want a no hassle non bleed HRT regime then consider having a Mirena fitted and use Oestrogel alongside.  DG x
