How is This Possible?
« on: January 12, 2018, 09:53:26 AM »

Hello ladies.

Can anyone enlighten me on something? Recently I have been waking several times during the night, feeling hot and then in the morning I am flushed and red faced but also nauseous with morning sickness type feelings. How can this be? If flushes are due to low oestrogen and morning sickness is due to high oestrogen how is it possible to have both at the same time?

I am post menopausal and have been taking Tibolone for a year.  I have tried other HRTs but the flushes have never really gone away but whenever I tried increasing oestrogen I had problematic bleeding. I am seeing my GP next week who is very supportive but freely admits that his knowledge is limited.

I know a few of us have discussed nausea on another thread but the combination with hot flushes has me completely confused.

Any ideas ladies? I am beyond fed up with all this and would dearly like to know your thoughts on the matter.

Wishing you all well and thank you for reading.

K.

I think its just a combination of all the hormones being out of synch that causes the nausea.

Is there enough oestrogen in Tibolone to stop the flushes?

Hello Dotty.

Thank you for your comments which make perfect sense!  My first experience of nausea was early in meno, a long time before I tried HRT when presumably my hormones would've been fluctuating a lot.

I was advised to try Tibolone as it is recommended for post menopausal women but I suspect you are right in suggesting it is too low a dose to stop the flushing.

Thank you for your comments, I appreciate you taking the time to reply.

Take care.

Hello Dotty.

Back in the day I tried a tablet called Climmese.  I have also used Evorel Conti Patches at 50mcg and then 75mcg with Utrogestan both orally and vaginally. I've given every combination a good go over many months but I have never been completely free of the flushes,  palpitations and the internal shaking feeling that goes with them. Not surprisingly my mood takes a dive as well! I am 61 and haven't had a period for seven years so I feel I'm due  a break from my troublesome hormones but it seems mother nature disagrees.

If I learn anything from my GP next week I will certainly pass it on.

Take care.

Hi Kathleen I'm very Like you in that I suffer from nausea, shaking and palpitations and night sweats.

Kliovance stopped my day flushes and palpitations within 2 weeks, but since then I have had little improvement. Gp upped my dose to elleste duet conti after 3 weeks. I'm now on my 10th week of the higher dose. My night sweats and insomnia have got worse in the last few weeks. I'm also totally exhausted and feel ill.

I don't know what to suggest for you. I would have thought oestrogen patch and utrogestan would have been best but you say you have tried that.

Have you seen a specialist?

Hello Dotty.

I can certainly sympathise with feeling exhausted and ill!  I know a lot of women do well on the patches/gel and utrogestan but anything above  2 pumps/50 mcg gave me problem bleeding and  using Utrogestan vaginally caused a lot of spotting.

I saw a gynae privately a while ago but  he wasn't familiar with the menopause and suggested a mirena coil which I don't really want. I plan to ask my GP if I can be referred to a specialist and I'll keep the forum updated with any progress, fingers crossed eh !

Take care.

Kathleen....I'd suggest a specialist.  Do you live near Solihull? Dr Newson is very good.

Hello Dotty.

Sadly I'm not near Solihull ( I live in the South East ) but I've found a  Nuffield meno clinic I can get to if necessary.

Have you seen Dr Newson and were they helpful?

Take care.

Hello Dotty.

Thanks for that. I might look at her website. I'm trying to educate myself  before I see my GP.

I've felt sick and flushy again today and I really need to believe that it will end soon!

Take care.
