Hormone issues post menopause

Good morning ladies

This post is for any ladies who are post menopausal and still having problems with hormonal imbalances.

I am 51 and haven't had a period for 5 years or so.  I was sailing through the menopause until last August when I started to suffer from anxiety.  After feeling so bad with anxiety that I had to take time off work I was prescribed Sertaline 50mg and Kliovance HRT.  After the initial side effects I have been perfectly well for over a year.  However at times I still get symptoms like my period is going to start (bloated tummy a few spots greasy hair tearful etc).  Last month I had a migraine that lasted for 3 days and my anxiety started up again too.  For the last couple of weeks I've been ok on and off until yesterday when I had another migraine and felt absolutely awful like I would faint so had to come home from work.  During the night last night I had the dreaded adrenaline rush during the night and felt really anxious again.

My question is have any post menopa ladies in the uk had hormone checks done by a specialist?  My doctor thinks I am just an anxious person and don't think she believes these feelings are due to menopause.  I am due to see her again on Saturday to speak to her about my expirience over the last couple of weeks but am fearful that all she will want to do is up my ADs which I really don't want as I am sure my problems are due to a hormone imbalance at certain times during the month.  Can anyone recommend a specialist on menopausal matters - I am in the East Midlands area but am prepared to travel to see someone if necessary.

Thanks for listening ladies xx

Hi I am 3 years post meno and my symptoms have just got horrendous . I’m on Elleste Duet Conti which is a stronger version of Kliovance. Perhaps you need a stronger HRT. I don’t think specialists do blood tests for hormones. I think they just go on symptoms . HRT should be the medication for anxiety in post meno women.

There are a list of specialist on the Menopause Matters website x

Hi there professor Stubbs in London does full blood tests for hormones etc but he's not cheap around £350 consultation and £350 for blood tests and follow up costs in three months.I have heard he is excellent and was supposed to be seeing him but decided to delay till I give GP another go after getting some excellent advice from dr Currie via email.
I only need estrogen as no womb/cervix so it's pretty straightforward for me I hope.i also thought I was sailing through the menopause till I hit my late 50s (I has hysterectomy around 40/41)but the last 5 years or so have been horrible so I'm trying HRT again it's just getting the right type so I'm hoping on dr curries advice to try persuade GP to give me transdermal,I'm presently on Premarin which I know dr Stubbs doesn't like.I do hope you get some help it's not easy to live with all this rubbish I know.good luck xx

Thank you so much for your replies.  I'm seeing the doctor again on Saturday and am going for CBT after Xmas so will see where I get with that first - I know my anxiety is hormone related but think I now need to deal with how I react to it - I just seem to keep getting the anxiety every few months and then I get scared I will have to take time off work again and so the vicious circle begins again - it's an awful feeling and I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy - it's so good being part of this forum however and know I'm not the only one it gives me so much comfort

Hi Lesley - this is the list of specialists in the midlands area taken from the link at the top of the page https://www.menopausematters.co.uk/clinicsearchresults.php?region=midlands. You may be able to get your GP to refer you?

Hi Lesley-

I know it's been quite a while since you posted this, but I hope you're still around. I'm going through the exact same thing you are and wonder if you found any answers??

Hope to hear from you.
