New girl reporting for duty!
« on: November 27, 2017, 03:39:34 PM »

Good grief, why doesn't anyone tell you???
I'm 53 and going through the menopause (have been for around 12 months), can't take HRT as I have fibroids, don't sleep due to night sweats...I could go on!
Does anyone have any advice about natural remedies as I have cleared the shelves in Holland and Barrett and nothing is helping!

Hello HelenJ and welcome to the forum.

I think many of us have bought the equivalent of H and B during this turbulent time!

I'm sure lots of ladies will be along to offer advice but I think fibroids are not necessarily a reason to avoid HRT if that is something you want to try.

Take care and keep posting.

Hi and welcome to MM HelenJ

Who told you you can't have HRT????? There are many ladies on this forum who have fibroids - hopefully they will be along to advice.

I believe you certainly can have HRT with fibroids but it would probably be best to have a Mirena fitted to help shrink the fibroids and then have oestrogen separately as gel or patch.  While in the peri stage, I would just have a low dose of oestrogen to help balance things - a lower dose would help prevent the fibroids from becoming a problem.

Sadly, herbal remedies don't really do that much - eat small highly nutritious meals regularly (avoid too much fat and sugar), get some good exercise e.g. brisk walking, dance class, yoga or pilates and learn to do some good relaxation techniques.  Read up all the info on this site.  Write out all the symptoms and questions and pop to your GP to ask for some help. Print off the stuff about the Mirena and ask if you can be referred to a meno clinic or gynaecologist for advice about this so you can have some oestrogen to control your flushes.
Good luck. DG x

Hi Helenj

Just to say that I had fibroids but was also on HRT with no ill effects.

Many thanks to all who offered support and invaluable advice.
I had a biopsy 2 weeks ago as my consultant was concerned about the thickness of my endometrium and I get the results tomorrow so will certainly have a chat with her as where I go next.  I was on HRT and it stopped the flushes and sweats dead in their tracks so I know it works for me. My GP advised me to stop taking HRT until the current investigations have been completed, which makes sense.
It's a huge comfort to know there is a forum that is peopled by wise women!  ;)

Hi,
just to say I have several fibroids and I have used HRT for around 4 years, periods can sometimes be a little more painful but other than that it's doesn't make any difference.
