World Menopause day 2015 and NICE

<< < (4/4)

Emma:
"This guidance is unequivocal in recognising that HRT is an effective treatment for menopausal symptoms, particularly with the management of hot flushes. However, the benefits and risks will stack up differently for each woman, and whether or not to take HRT is an individual choice.

Let's start with the good news. The evidence tells us that HRT not only reduces symptoms but can also improve bone health and reduce the risk of osteoporosis and fractures in later life."

This is a quote from Dr. Currie's article "Menopause: Time for change" regarding the NICE guidelines.

CLKD:
Will GPs take it on board though ……….

dazned:
Doubt it.............. tight budgets are prohibitive  ;)

Hurdity:
It's a great article ( Dr Currie's blog post). I think Emma was drawing our attention to this specifically because there has been some discussion about an article posted by a journalist where the bone protection issue was questioned.

We can't make GPs take it on board but the Guidelines are there for a starting point, so no doctor should now say to a menopausal woman - "I don't believe in HRT because it (unequivocally) causes cancer". Education is key as the Guidelines recognise.
