Any tips for Cysitus please
« on: August 28, 2015, 01:20:08 PM »

I have had lower pain for a couple of days with the feeling of a full bladder.
Overnight I had loads of trips to the loo and burning pain
It all took a hold this morning and there was a bit of bleeding
I went to the chemist,  which I shouldn't have as nearly passed out.She said see doctor

I am now waiting for a gp to phone...appts all gone
I had this once about 20 years ago but don't remember it being this awful.
Don't quite know what to do with myself. It was all so sudden.
How did I get it...not active with hubby for years

Any advice would be great ladies. Its bloody agony!

You have done the right thing calling the doctor. You will probably have to take a sample in but hopefully they will give you ABs to take immediately.

Hot water bottle, as much to drink as you can and paracetamol is all I can think of.

It's the most horrible thing and can make you feel awful.

Let us know how you get on.

Take some paracetamol, you might have a bit of a temperature.

Give them another hour then call and remind them you need attention as it's coming up to the weekend.

Make sure that the GP sends a urine sample away …. it's the only way to be definite about infection and also it is important to be given the CORRECT AB!

I had to sit on the loo with a cuppa and a glass of cold barley water for several hours when I had an attack.  Awful.  It was the only way I could relax my bladder.

For me it was the beginning of vaginal atrophy  :-\

Hi CLKD
Yes I find staying on the loo is more comfortable
Which are the correct abs? I am allergic to penicillin

Hubby went and got me some cranberry drink

Typical timing with the bank holiday!

You need to drink lots of water and take a painkiller to get your temperature down while you wait for your doc to phone back. Hot water bottle is an excellent idea too. I find that drinking a weak solution of lemon barley also helps but not sure why. I can't use cranberry juice as it upsets my tummy.  Your GP will probably prescribe a broad spectrum antibiotic until they know what bug they are dealing with.

It's easy to develop this as you get older pn. As CLKD says it can be the first signs of the vagina beginning to get drier. The skin thins out and so allows bugs to enter the urethra.

Thanks Taz
I am alternating water with cranberry. Would rather not drink as don't want to go to the loo! But realise its important

Could I have caught from a dirty loo seat? Had to go when shopping a few days back and they were disgusting

Really glad you got something before the bank holiday. At least now it can get better.

Have you any probiotics to take for your tummy and to ward off thrush.

Keep drinking, lots and lots and lots  ::).

Sitting on the loo allows the bladder to relax.  I dribbled a lot.  Barley water is what Granny suggested for various ailments, the Jury is still 'out' regarding cranberry juice ;-).

It is better not to take probiotics until you have finished the AB Course.  After that the Acitmel for example with line the gut and improve any bugs that have been shredded by the effects of the AB.

You need to drink to flush the bugs out. It's virtually impossible to catch it from a dirty loo seat. Far more likely that your own bacteria sort of made it's way from back to front and due to the thinner tissue around the urethra as we get older the bugs can get in.

Nitrofuantoin is a broad spectrum antibiotic. It turns your urine a lovely shade of bright yellow! What strength have you been given?

CLKD - there are now a specific type of probiotic tablets to take at the same time as you are on antibiotics. They are called OptiBac. Lots of GP's now recommend you use such products when they prescribe the antibiotics. Actimel etc. are not considered to have enough of whatever it is (brain fail!) to deal with an antibiotic influx although they would be better than nothing.

:thankyou: ……… because ABs can cause 'the runs' it was thought that swelling Actimel-type drinks wasn't of benefit until after the Course was taken.  Can 1 get the Optibac on prescription at the same time as the ABs?
