Personally Birdy - although I have not had anything like your lozenge, when oestrogen and the progesterone were combined I found it very hard to work out which hormone and what level of hormone was working and which was not.  It wasn't until I separated them out that I managed to get control of what was going on and which thing fixed or caused which symptoms.

I agree with SJ - Birdy - the Utro on its own is the normal prescribed dose without what is in your lozenge as well.  Does seem a lot and what you describe sounds like the symptoms associated with too much progesterone.  Especially when your oestrogen is so very low compared to the progesterone.  It seem too unbalanced to me. It would floor me completely if I was taking what you have been prescribed.  I can't take 100mg every day let alone that and some more given elsewhere.

Birdy....I think it would be a good thing to stop the hrt lozenges and to move onto Oestrogel or oestrogen patches.  You will then be getting a better idea of how much oestrogen you are taking and the progesterone will be in accordance with your oestrogen.

Oestrogen patches come in 25mg, 50mg, 75 mg and 100mg......I would say that you need more oestrogen  and it could be that a lack of oestrogen is causing your symptoms.

This is just my opinion xx

Evorel Conti has a synthetic progesterone which might not have suited you. Blood tests are unreliable and you should go on symptom control. No one can say what your oestrogen level should be.

Try Oestrogel as you can take up to 4 pumps and you might find that you absorb it better  x

Hi Birdy....is this meno specialist a specialist in bio identical hormones?  Are you paying for treating? x

If I remember rightly I believe that Birdy said that the lozenges are made and prescribed by the Marion Gluck clinic in London SJ  is that right Birdy or have I got you confused - apologies if so cos I don't always remember to put the right post with the right person sometimes.

If that's the case Ladybt then its bio identical hrt and this hrt is not licensed for use in UK. x

Hi Birdy

So sorry you have been feeling rough.

However like the others have said I think it would be better to take conventional HRT - I agree with Dotty. We can't really advise at all about hormonal lozenges. They are not recommended by the medical profession as the dosing and formulations are not tested nor standardised. Nor do you need to worry about oestrogen levels. All this sort of thing is very expensive and actually unnecessary - to have this private treatment, because you can get bio (=body) identical oestrogen and progesterone on NHS. Testosterone can be a problem - and that is the only hormone you might have to go privately for - at least in the first instance.

I agree you may be getting far too much progesterone!

Sorry I can't remember where you are in menopause but if still peri your oestrogen levels will be fluctuating still so measuring blood levels is meaningless. Even if you are post-menopausal blood tests are inaccurate as your levels will still fluctuate to some extent. Not sure how lozenges are absorbed? What time of day do you take the lozenge and what time of day have you had the blood tests? This will also have an impact.

As has already been said but docs should go on symptoms and they would do so on NHS. I'm afraid you are being charged probably unnecessarily and being given an odd combination of treatments! No wonder you are feeling a bit rough, I would say!

Please reconsider your treatment as you have already been advised, and hopefully you will soon be on the road to feeling a lot better....

PS just seen the other replies while typing mine.

Hmmm Marion Gluck - I can't add any more than what I said in my previous post - except to reiterate I think you'd be better off using proper HRT (still the body-identical kind). Personally I would ditch her - as you are not feeling as well as you should - and find a gynae who is recommended by the BMS...

Hi Birdy

I think what we are all trying to tell you is to go and see your GP and ask for HRT.....Oestrogel and Utrogestan would be a good choice (body identical).  You can get both on the NHS.

Hi Birdy...yes, ditch the lozenges and start on the oestrogel.  Did your GP prescribe that for you?

Oh Birdy - it's horrible and I really feel for you.  It's tough knowing what to do when you feel so awful you can barely work out your own name when you feel like that! :-\
To be honest if you feel so bad, what is the worst that can happen? - you feel the same or maybe you might feel a bit better on something else. Well that's the way I viewed things when I was pretty bad.  If you have it there, give it a go - although you will still feel on a roller coaster for the first few days as it is a biggish change!

Drop the lozenges and try 1 pump of oestrogel on each thigh to start with every day.  Regarding Utrogestan -  I think you have been having it continuously anyway.  Try Utrogstan 100mg per day, every night vaginaly for a week and see how you go.  Still gonna be rocky for a week or more but after 7 days you should be able to report something back as to how it is going.  The progesterone may still be high for a while but after a while  it should drop a bit and most ladies here seem to reckon that your progesterone is causing all the crying and despondency if I was on that level I would be filling buckets too! :'(
If it's still too high we can all reconvene and work on plan B cos there is always a plan b! :)

You will probably miss your testosterone but you need to get the other 2 sorted first, you can pick that up once the other levels are a bit more even keel. Forget bloods - what good are they if they say you're ok but you dont feel ok?

Birdy.... please try the Oestrogel. I am speaking from personal experience. 18 months ago I was in a horrific place with this menopause rubbish. I was desperate. Look back at my early posts and you will see how bad I was. I finally got on the right hrt after a battle and I'm now doing very well xx
