Mirena Coil - has it moved?
« on: October 07, 2013, 12:23:40 PM »

Hi Ladies
Haven't posted for a while.
Has anyone had a Mirena coil that has moved?  If so, how did you know that it had moved and what did it feel like?
Not sure if something is going on with mine or if it's the small remnant of ovarian tissue that it playing up.
Thanks

As long as you can still feel the strings Jellyb you should be ok.

"Check in place
In about 5-6 % of women, the muscular contractions of the womb push the coil out of place or expel it from the uterus. This is most likely to occur in the first few months after fitting.
Each month, you should check that the coil is in place. This can be done by feeling the two fine black threads hanging from the IUS at the top of the vagina. Your gynaecologist and/or gynaecology practice nurse in the clinic shows you how.
Don't ever pull on the threads, because you may accidentally pull out the coil"

Thanks Taz,
I can still feel the strings.  For a while though I have been getting abdominal pain/stabbing pain.  I thought perhaps it was a cyst as I still have some ovarian tissue, despite having my ovaries removed.  But then I thought the coil may have moved or be digging in somewhere.
I've had it for a year or so now and haven't had any problems with it before.
