Hello ladies.
Can I pick your brains please?
I have just been chatting to a friend who tells me that she has yet another UTI. She said she thought there was an American urologist who prescribed vit D as a treatment and there was a YouTube video on the subject.
I am not aware of this but I thought the ladies here who have researched UTI treatments may be aware of this and be happy to share their knowledge on the subject.
If anyone can enlighten me I would inform my friend who I am sure would be very grateful.
Take care everyone.

Hi Kathleen. It is known that vit D deficiency can lead to more UTI infections in post meno women. There are various papers about it online. Vit D affects our immune system so I guess that could affect our ability to fend off urinary tract bugs. I think everyone should have their levels tested as it is an important vitamin for our health.

Has her urine been sent to a Lab. for testing?
She needs to consider appropriate vaginal atrophy testing.

This time of year our vit D stores are at their lowest without supplementation. GPs now regularly test for vit D if a patient has recurrent infections (of any kind) and will prescribe if needed. Also talked about more as a hormone than a vitamin due to its multifaceted and complex effect. I have a friend from the midlands who was prescribed vitamin D for this reason (caught everything going and had low levels).

Hello Iris67 and thank you for your reply.
I have been learning about the benefits of vitamin D as has my friend. As you say it is really a hormone as we make it ourselves from sun exposure.
My friend is hopeful that supplements can also her prevent UTIs. She tells me that she will keep on researching and hopefully she will find the YouTube video that explained how it can help.
Thanks again and take care.
