Title: Inflating balloom semsation lower right abdomen when lying down at night

Has anybody else had an inflating balloon sensation in their lower right abdomen (I guess around the ovary area) only when lying down? When it inflates, I touch it and it feels like a firm ball but deflates again after a few seconds.  I had a pelvic scan a few months ago (not for this but for being post menopause) and they found a few small fibroids but no mention of anything else.  It's not painful but very puzzling.

Hi,it wouldn't just be trapped gas would it? Remember your colon zigzags all across your lower stomach,I know I have weird and wonderful sensations on both sides, I also have diverticulitis,it can be on the right side but mostly the left,sorry, I can't be of more help x

Thanks for your reply  :).  I hope it is gas.  I guess if it's a hernia it'd be more of a permanent lump?  It's so confusing trying to work it out but I guess I have had it for a while.  One doc said it might be a hernia and not to worry.

Hi Moonflower,

Yes I have, usually in the morning lying in bed. Same right abdomen. First noticed it about year ago.  I asked my doctor her advice. She told me it was my poo. Because I’m skinny she said it normal to feel that, and  it common in children too.

Like you no pain. And it does disappear after I poo.

Ah interesting! Mine's always at night time.  Fingers crossed it's poo or wind! Thanks for sharing!

I agree with moonflower,it does sound like the gut,if it's taking it's time getting to where it's got to go,then your colon will bulge.

Oh my goodness I have the exact same feeling in my lower right abdomen had it for 6 weeks now it comes and goes but when I push my tummy there is no lump or pain. I mainly feel it when I'm sitting. I'm currently waiting for an appointment for a scan to see what it could be. I thought I was alone with symptom.

I've had this - lower right and also right just under ribs. Deffo wind...can get it to move  ;D
