Title: Post Menopausal Bleeding & also blood in urine
Post by: Cazikins on January 02, 2021, 05:24:40 PM
Back in June I had soreness down below, not internal, around urethra. Some pain on urination, stinging and itching. No urinary frequency. No discharge. Diagnosed with lichen sclerosis. Also had a problem with a possible cyst on the vulval area so have an appt in April to get that checked out.

Over Christmas I had Post Menopausal Bleeding & also blood in urine. Dr was brilliant & arranged for urgent tests etc.
Urine sample confirmed blood. Sample taken from cervix - no infection. Blood tests taken on Thursday & awaiting results. Scan booked for Monday at hospital under 2 week emergency rule.

I have had problems like this before & they've been fibroids or cysts - but I had a light brown discharge with them. This was bright red blood & some clotting. It was also smelly. It was quite distressing & upsetting.

I take 1/2 a tablet of Femosten ultra low dose conti combined per day & have done for several years now.

Good news is that the bleeding stopped yesterday, however I'm feeling very tired, wiped out & very weepy.

Has anyone any words of wisdom to stop me thinking that this is the big C.

Thanks you lovely ladies of wisdom.

When I had pre-cancerous cells I had bright red spotting, certainly not enough blood for clots and no smell. I don't think it's cervical cancer. Did they suggest what blood in the urine might be?

Thanks Jaypo & Sheila99,
No not giving any AB's yet but as the urine was only dipped on Weds by a nurse at my practise, it then had to be reported to my G.P. but she wasn't in till Thursday, as I've not heard anything I'm thinking it must have been sent to the lab?? ???
I have my scan tomorrow (if it doesn't get cancelled at the last moment. Hopefully I'll get a better idea of what's going on.
The other thing that has occurred is that I seem to be getting another white smelly discharge again, which I noticed this morning.
More blooming worry... >:(

Bit of a shock but after the consultation & exam by the gynecologist on Monday, there is a very strong chance that it is cancer. Not ovarian though which they seem to stress to me.
She said she saw a fibroid. Then she said "& that looks like a polyp....or is it something else". Took a sample through the endo lining which bloody hurt like mad. I've been told that if it comes back positive I will need a hysterectomy but that it is manageable.... not sure what that means really.
A McMillan nurse was in with me after the exam & she gave me her card so that I could contact her if I needed to ask any questions.
Results should be back next week.
I'm feeling numb, sick & shocked. I've had breakthrough bleeds before & just had a hysteroscopy & all good afterwards. I knew this was different -  just felt tired, weak etc but the bright red blood was what alarmed me.
I still have the worry of blood in my urine. Trying to get to the bottom of that as well. Could it mean I have cancer of the bladder too?
Trying to stay positive but bloody hell what a time to have something like this going on whilst Covid threat happening.

Sending hugs to you Cazikins. I've got everything crossed that your results will be as good as possible.

As for blood in urine. I have the microscopic blood all of the time when I have my urine tested but various investigations have never uncovered why. A gynae did say she thought it was due to vaginal dryness.

Thinking of you, Cazikins. Hopefully it's not cancer but if it is, it has been caught early and a hysterectomy will get rid of it. Are you still bleeding? How do you know it's coming from the bladder or the womb? I had a bleeding a couple of months ago, but it stopped before I could buy some tampons to test if it was from womb or bladder. Sending positive vibes your way. We're here to support you, always!  :-*

Thanks for all your support.
It's hard when you don't have a big close family to talk to, no one to hug except my wonderful hubby. No "bubble", don't get me wrong I have some amazing friends but sadly atm we can't socialize due to lockdown - but I hoped I could count on my old virtual mates on here.  :thank you: & you haven't let me down.

Yes Sage I'm still bleeding. I know where the blood is coming from as it's shown quite clearly on the toilet paper when I wipe/dab myself.... plus the mirror confirms it. ::)

I'm trying to stay positive but everyday is torture - waiting, hoping, more waiting, more thinking...
I'm a planner, a woman in control of her destiny & I feel out of my depth.

Thanks my meno buddies - can you "virtually" hold my hand over the next few weeks to help me get through this ordeal - & when I'm out the other side we can have a right old knees up  :) ;) xx

Hi Cazikins,
I'm afraid I'm a bit of a lurker and don't post often but I thought it might help to let you know that I have just been through something very similar and I'm now recovering from a hysterectomy that I had three weeks ago today.
In November 19 had some bleeding, had a biopsy which was clear and the bleeding stopped.
Almost exactly a year later the bleeding started again and in November I had another biopsy. This suggested a polyp so I had a hysterscopy which removed the polyp but unfortunately this showed early cancer cells.
Once this was confirmed I had a chest xray and an MRI scan both if which were clear and on 17th December I had a hysterectomy.
I'm recovering well and need no further treatment.
The worst part is definitely the constant waiting on test results as like you I only had my hubby to talk to and although I did talk to him I didn't want to say too much as I was worried for him too.
I really hope that your results are clear but if I can help in any way please let me know.

Thanks everyone of you, it means a lot to me. Just to write thinks down on here helps & to know that people are out there who care &/or have experience of what it's like waiting for results.
PinkPepsi a special thanks for your sharing your experience with me. Scans were mentioned like the ones you had to have. I suppose that's to see if it has spread to other parts of the body. I'm so glad you're on the mend & please let me know how you get on over the coming weeks.

That made me giggle JD.Thanks sweetie xx

This morning I telephoned my doctor to get this bleeding in my urine sorted out. I'm worried that it's got in there as well. Last week I had a urine sample show blood when dipped at the surgery by the nurse but was negative when sent to the hospital. The doc has done an urgent 2 week referral to the urologist today.

Ladies thanks for listening & holding my hand.  :thankyou:

I'm so sorry. I have been going through somewhat similar procedures (scans, D&C, two hysteroscopies) since July, although my consultant now seems less sure that I have precancerous endometrial cells and I'm back to three-monthly hysteroscopies and biopsies, plus a Mirena coil. If things haven't settled down I'll be having a hysterectomy.

It's just such a huge shock, isn't it? And the sense of life being out of control is awful.

Thinking of you.

I telephoned the McMillan nurse on Tuesday as I'd not heard anything. She checked my record/med notes & confirmed that the sample they took 10 days ago showed no sign of cancer  however it did show a benign polyp  :clapping:. She said she'd email the gynae to get a more detailed report & either of them would get back to me. but I've not heard anything. I realise this means that that particular sample didn't show cancer but there could be other areas that may do.

Has anyone heard of Patients Know Best? This is from Wikkipedia:
"Patients Know Best is a British social enterprise, with an aim of putting patients in control of their own medical records. Patients Know Best also integrates into the NHS Connecting for Health network to provide patients with tools to work with clinicians. Its Chairman is Dr Richard Smith. Wikipedia"

Well anyway I'm signed up with them & they sent me a notification today saying I'm booked in for a procedure with the gynae dept in the outpatients at my local hosp. I'm guessing it's a hysteroscopy to remove the benign polyp??

The other issue I have regarding bleeding around the urethra/blood in urine etc. I have a cystoscopy being done tomorrow morning. Had one done 10 years ago & it bloody well hurt like hell so not looking forward to it at all but realise it's totally necessary.
Things are difficuilt to take in atm. I'm glad that they are eliminating all possibilities rather than just doing a "wait & see what happens" - but concerned that they are still looking.
I am still bleeding from both areas but was hoping that this would ease up.

So that's where I am atm lovely ladies. I'll let you know how things go.

p.s. Grheliz 1 thanks for your post & you are so right about being out of control. Please let me know how you're getting on

Cazikins xx

That's such a relief! I had urethral bleeding a couple of months ago and it was nothing serious, I reckon it was a blood clot from exertion! So glad for you, Cazikins! Good luck with cytoscopy! :-*

Good news cazi. Hope the cystoscopy goes well. Tell them that it was painful last time. It shouldn't hurt so perhaps they didn't wait long enough for the anaesthetic gel to take effect before inserting the catheter.

You're absolutely right Jaypo - I'm down to having my kidneys scanned next as the cystoscopy today showed that my bladder is all fine. He did see blood in my urine though which proves I'm not going crazy.  ;D

- cheers Taz, It went better than last time. I was even brave enough to look at the screen  ;D. I was in & out in under an hour. Lovely doctor & 2 nurses. Bloody stinging now though & my bladder feels full but nothing coming out when I sit on the loo.
So sorry to hear this, sending lots of positive thoughts your way x
Cheers Khm - trying to stay positive, just wish they'd find out what's causing, then they can treat it & I can get on with life.  :)

Ok so this is where I'm at now. Scan to be done on my kidneys & a hysteroscopy for something that I'm not sure of for certain yet but probably removal of the benign polyp...
Cheers everyone

No Cazikins, but one of the doctors (a Nephrologist) said it could have been a kidney stone, too small to be seen on scans. I had one in the past so it's possible!

I got a phone call this morning offering me a CT scan on my kidneys for tomorrow afternoon... :o :o that was bloody quick. I should have asked if they had had a cancellation & that's why it is so soon.

So to date I know this:
It's not cervical cancer as my smear was clear 2 weeks ago.
It's not ovarian cancer as the blood test taken 4 weeks ago was ok.
It's not bladder cancer as the cystoscopy showed no sign of it.

Coming up next:
CT scan tomorrow to check the kidneys.
Possible hysteroscopy in early Feb to remove polyp etc - waiting for confirmation on this.

Things to do:
Speak to the gynae/McMillan nurse to find out the full results of the examination/procedure I had done on the 4th Jan.

Blimey this is becoming a bit like a to do list/diary ... ;D ;D

Love Cazikins xx

Yay cazikins,it's all looking good, maybe you've just some kidney stones, when I had my kidney scan it showed one but gave me no trouble, next scan,it was gone,it had dissolved or passed on its own,it did cause blood in the urine.
We're all rooting for you and yes,it'll be a cancellation, that's the only reason they'd phone you the day before, good luck xx

CT scan on kidneys & bladder all ok & no stones showing. The urologist has discharged me back to my G.P. although he has copied in my gynae on all the results.

I had the hysteroscopy last week & had a polyp removed & now waiting for the results.

I'm still bleeding from the hysteroscopy which was 5 days ago & thought it would have stopped by now, I think the leaflet said it can be expected for 2 - 3 days - will have to check.

Oh I was a very brave girl - I sang whilst she did the polypectomy. I had to to keep my mind off what was going on down below.
"Take ne Home Country Roads"  :parti: it did help me - God knows what they must have thought of me although they did hum along to the chorus bit.  ;D

Uplifting story of your singing through your hysteroscopy! Good for you. Interesting  song choice!
After mine I had bleeding for 6 days and my leaflet said a week or so.
Not too long to wait for your results hopefully.

All results ok, bleeding stopped a week after the hysteroscopy.  :) :)

I still have a gynae appt in April to check out the lichens scoliosis & cyst I have on my vulva which plays up sometimes - but the main problem I had after Christmas (Post Menopausal Bleeding) seems to have been the polyp... the relief is enormous I can't tell you. I really thought my number was up especially back in January when the gynae had the Macmillan nurse in on the consultation. I think I've had a guardian angel looking after me & holding my hand. :ange:

I cannot applaud the NHS enough. At no time did I feel brushed aside, I didn't have to chase doctors, consultants or secretaries. I put my trust in these wonderful people & knew I was in very good hands.

I know some people don't have the same experience as me but I am truly grateful that my experience was dealt with professional people from day 1.

Wishing all the other ladies who went through similar problems at the same time as me a similar outcome.

Thanks to all you ladies who supported me.

Well here we are 18 months later & I had to have another hysteroscopy in early July for PMB again. A polyp was found & all ok - however 2 days ago I started another bleed so back I have to go again.

Now thankfully I have the gynae's direct NHS email address so I emiled her this afternoon asking if I needed to go back through my GP or is there a way I can bypass it - & bless her she answered within 15 minutes saying " I would not expect you to have further bleeding relating to this so I think if you are we should review you back in clinic"...... what a star she is.

However I'm still worried sick. At 65 I wasn't expecting all this again. I take half a tablet of Femoston conti low dose a day, nothings changed so just don't know what is going on now.

So I've not seen a GP. Just before I set off the phone rang. It was the surgery, I had sent an email yesterday requesting advice.
The on duty Dr felt it "was not important - give her the first available appointment with a lady doctor".
The receptionist I spoke to first thing, and set up today's appointment gave me a bollocking because "you didn't tell me you had sent an email. We're not in on Sunday so don't see them till Monday"

The thing is today's appointment was with the on call GP - who is a lady! Ah well I do have an appointment on Wednesday with a  doctor I respect.

Typical Limpy, I use to work as a GP receptionist (shhh don't tell anyone else) & that was not a very helpful response. But furthermore the GP's response wasn't much better.
More waiting for you.
I'm still bleeding so waiting for an appt to see the gynae - God knows when that will be though.
