Title: Ovarian cyst
Post by: Star55 on December 30, 2020, 11:30:23 AM
Hi, new member, first post. Hope everyone had a good Christmas. My story
I'm 50, haven't had a period for 3 or 4 years, the odd hot flush.
Was briefly on hrt but had to stop to have a hip replacement (which was delayed 6 months due to Covid)
I've been told previously I have IBS, but it only troubled me maybe once or twice a fortnight. since my hip surgery in September I've been having tightness in whole abdomen, low appetite and recently pain in my right side.
Had an ultrasound and have an ovarian cyst on my right ovary (4-5 cm)
My main question is does anyone have experience of this, could it have caused all the digestive problems and are they likely to remove it?

Hi I had numerous cysts before my hysterectomy.  I can’t say I had the symptoms you describe, my symptoms were a localised discomfort to where the cyst was and they usually got to about 11cm before I noticed them.  Plus sometimes cysts are cyclical and come and go again .
Presumably you’ll have to wait to discuss your results with your specialist ?

Hi Star 55,

Ovarian cysts are common, and they will probably rescan you in the first instance.
By which stage it may well have gone but you mustn't worry cause if it hasn't they may just keep an eye on it if is a simple cyst.

If you have any other queries ask away, and don't worry x

Thanks for the replies, I was kind of hoping my symptoms were related to the cyst as then there is a solution! I thought because I've been through the menopause and have had no periods for years that the cyst wouldn't disappear?
The more I read about menopausal issues the more I wish for a magic pill that would simply eradicate the reproductive system once we've finished with it!

Hi Star 55.
I have a long standing history of bilateral ovarian cysts. Localised pain as you describe. My GP referred me for scanning and they were around 4 to 6 mm both sides so I was put in to being scanned every 6 months for 3 years, no changes so they discharged me from services.
Hope this helps
