"We've currently identified over 1,000 cases with this variant predominantly in the South of England although cases have been identified in nearly 60 different local authority areas.
"We do not know the extent to which this is because of the new variant but no matter its cause we have to take swift and decisive action which unfortunately is absolutely essential to control this deadly disease while the vaccine is rolled out."
Prof Alan McNally, an expert at the University of Birmingham, said UK testing labs had picked up on this new variant in the last few weeks.
Looks like this will mutate as SARs is known to do :-\

I thought all viruses mutate?
Taz x

Actually, all nucleic acids mutate. ;D

Clever you. I had to look that up.

There was a thought a few weeks ago that C-19 was 'unlikely to alter' ...... and I thought 'how do they know'!

Sage is called Sage for a good reason! I love the name!

Thank you, lovely ladies. Love your names too :-* :-*

Now we are being asked not to mix at C.mas - 'we must trust the Public' . Yeah. Right.

Do they mutate so much that vaccines are no longer effective?
Just thinking things through, as you do as an over thinker ::)

I heard a doctor answering this question on BBC and he said that it was unlikely to cause problems with the vaccine.
-
We won't know yet. But apparently variations of the vaccines are already being altered to accommodate the GNA of any mutations within hours - that's as clear as I remember it being explained.
-
Apparently this mutation was found in September ......... we are now December and I didn't know about it until last week :-\.

Had anyone else heard about the mutations prior to last week?

Unfortunately, it's not that simple. This article explains the mutation process, it's a bit long but easy to understand.

:thankyou:

I read about the mutation in the paper weeks ago.
But it all went quiet, so I thought it was probably fake news. 🤷♀️

I think they've only recently worked out it spreads more easily than the original. And thousands of people have already left London so it'll be all round the rest of the country soon. Lucky I don't run the country, I'd withdraw nhs treatment for a year from anyone who broke lockdown rules.

Boris was going to rely on the public to be sensible. Well that worked well then. Although we don't know the overall influences that are coming at him from all sides, if it was known that there were mutations way back in Sept., why didn't all the governments get on the same page and shut down everywhere for 3 weeks in mid-October?

This seems 2 B the 1 causing current problems!
