Title: Need GP to check breasts for lumps
Post by: Dandelion on October 07, 2020, 10:58:25 PM
I mentioned in other thread that I have abnormal uterine bleeding and am post meno.
As a result I have not been able to self-check my breasts and on the odd days I have not bled I have felt a lump.
Dr Currie wants me to see GP regarding the bleeding, however, I am possibly autistic, with the attendant communication problems, (autism assessment via video link booked for 13th October) our surgery is only doing phone consultations, yet I need a GP to check my breasts for lumps.
I know I had a mammogram last year, however I have heard women find cancerous lump (I think on here) before her next mammogram, so its worth doing self-checks.
I can't because of the bleeding.
I normally see GP face to face and hand them a note with my problems on and they are happy to read it as my mind freezes when I have to talk, and phone is worse.
How am I going to
a)Get them to check my breasts for lumps as I haven't been able to self-check?
b)Tell them of my complex bleeding problems in a ten minute phone call, bearing in mind I can only cope with the simplest of things on the phone?
Here is the bleeding thread for covenience

thanks

I'm not sure why vaginal bleeding would prevent you self-checking for lumps but our surgery is seeing patients if they have found a lump in the breast. They no longer do routine breast checking though. If you have found a lump please make an appointment. You will be seen.

Do you have your phone on speaker phone? I ask as my husband is autistic and he finds it easier to converse on phone on loudspeaker.

I would contact the National Autistic Society directly.  They may well have a local support worker in your area.  I worked for a support worker for 5 years in the 1990s.

What has checking your breasts got to do with vaginal bleeding?
Could you email your dr?

Sorry for late reply ladies
Breasts feel different in a period, I know I am 54 but I am having a 17 day long period at the moment.
Been and got checked and no bad stuff in womb, but breasts feel different when tender or bleeding, hope that helps.
