Title: Nose bleeds - your wisdom please
Post by: Joaniepat on May 26, 2020, 08:25:38 PM
Hi ladies, can I ask for nose bleed advice please? I started getting the anterior, cascading type ones last week on one side. Started eight days ago with the first on Tues 19/5, two more on Wed 20/5, Thurs and Fri OK, then three episodes on Saturday, at which point I contacted 111. The out of hours GP I spoke to on Sunday thought the cause might be an infection (where did I get that from in lockdown, there's only me here!) and prescribed Naseptin cream which I started Sunday afternoon. No further bleeds Sun and Mon, then one this evening after I sneezed and another just now after bending over. The bleeds take about 15-20 minutes of hard pinching to stop.

I will continue with the Naseptin, but I'd already ordered some oxymetazoline spray which arrived today. Does anyone have any experience of these two? Should I ring the GP surgery tomorrow to enquire about cauterization, or leave it for a bit?

The whole thing is freaking me out, as I am afraid to go out in case it starts up! Please bring me down off the ceiling!

My husband had nose bleeds last summer. Ended up having cauterisation and then an op.  They weren't sure wha5 had caused his but he had been taking naproxen for osteoarthritis - anti inflam like naproxen can cause bleeds. He had an op which tied the artery and no probs since.
Very unpleasant though.
The fact they stop with pinching is good, his didn't .
I'd see how you go, but maybe cauterisation would sort it, horrible things x hope it settles

My daughter has had nose bleeds the last couple of weeks, the chemist gave her Beconase. She doesnt normally suffer from Hayfever but this stuff has worked.

Thanks ladies. My nose feels dry and runny alternately, a bit like having dry eyes except it's my nose! Maybe it is an allergy after all.

Hi JP,I think the blood vessels in the nose, once damaged can take a long time to heal,my nose is like a tap, constantly blowing, one night I woke up and my pillow as covered in blood, what a scare I got, since then,I've had quite a few small bleeds, also sores up my nose, I have an ab cream to use so I?ll see if that helps

Oh that sounds just like me jaypo. I've been given a cream, Naseptin. Is that what you've got? I've been using it since Sunday but still very sore. GP says it can take a week to start working. I have to use for 10 days. Glad to hear your bleeds are mostly small, my cascades freak me out 😱. Good luck with the cream ❤

I've had a weak blood vessel in one nostril for years. I don't often have nose bleeds now , but it weeps and requires gentle cleaning, otherwise I will sneeze or knock the scab which then starts a minor nose bleed. I was sent to see a specialist years back, but nothing seemed to help. That was when it was worse. What did seem to make a difference was starting HRT. Better healing? I can live with it now as I no longer find blood trickling down my face spontaneously.

Think mine is called neosporin JP,not that it was the sores that were bleeding, definitely a burst blood vessel, thing is,the skin up your nose is so thin and delicate, when it bleeds it BLEEDS.
Anyway fingers crossed the cream helps you,my lovely daughter suggested I buy mini tampons and stick them up my nose  >:(  ;D

;D Daughters! She sounds like mine! Reminds me of when I was breast feeding my daughter aged 4 months. I had a streaming cold and stuffed purple tissues up each nostril to prevent my mucus dropping on her. She lay in my arms laughing, unable to drink for the hilarity of it all! She hasn't stopped laughing at me since!
