Title: Excessive urination
Post by: Love_vodka on May 19, 2020, 12:10:12 PM
Hi
I'm using estradot (week 2) after previously using everol patches and then gel. I've suffered excessive urination particularly at night (I get up 6/7 times) on and off over the last few years. I've recently stopped taking pain medication (tramadol and then cocodamol) for frozen shoulder and noticed when I was taking the pain meds the frequent peeing seemed to stop. Now it's back with a vengeance. Is there a link or is it just coincidence? Any advice on what i can take? Thankyou

Just to add I have no other symptoms apart from the frequent peeing!

Hi!  do read the threads about bladder issues and vaginal atrophy - lots about both on here  ::) - 4 good reason!

Don't deny yourself fluids in the day because the kidneys will work harder at night = more trips to pee.  I take 'nurofen' if my bladder is irritated as it relaxes the feeling of fullness.  I have used 'ovestin' for several years with good results!

Thankyou. I'll check out Ovestin. I did have a quick look, I assumed I dont have VA as no other symptoms that I've noticed. I'm v reluctant to visit GP as they are not very sympathetic or menopause friendly.
Ill have a good read tonight though

A fresh urine sample needs to be sent to a Lab. to see if there are any bugs.

Frequent peeing is a classic sign of atrophy sadly.  VA mimics urine infection-type symptoms really really well.

I'm having the exact same thing on being given Estradot instead of Evorel. Evorel controlled the VA brilliantly - half an Evorel 50 and I was fine. Day 3 on Estradot and cannot stay off the loo, even with 2 50"s on.  :(

I asked for Evorel on repeat prescription and they put 'Estradiol patches'. Well they don't effing work. I put on 2 50 patches and I may as well have stuck on bits of sellotape. Going back to pharmacy tomorrow, hopefully they'll exchange it.

Thank Goodness I've still got some get left. Could hardly believe I searched on here and found someone who the exact same thing ha happened to. This forum is so helpful.

So it's the HRT ?  :-\ ...............

I love this discussion, I thought I had a UTI last week but the sample came back clear.  I am experiencing a heavy bladder and it just generally aches and feel bloated.  I was taking D Manosse but not sure if it has helped and this morning reached for the Nurofen (thanks CLKD for the tip).

I was on Vagifem and Estraderm patches for 10 years until last year I was diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer so all HRT was stopped.  I had a full hysterectomy.   I spoke to my Oncologist last month who agreed my symptoms were menopausal related but just said....I had to go through this, there is no way round it.   I disagree and am wondering if I should approach my GP again for some form of HRT to deal with the flushes and the overactive bladder symptoms.

Get an appt with a menopause clinic?   HRT can be delivered by patches and certainly 'vagifem' or 'ovestin' in such small amounts is unlikely to trigger any cells that might be left.  Quality of Life!  Bet that the oncologist is a man? Have you contacted Ovacome charity who deal with all aspects of care and advice.

Ovaries removed?

I will speak to my GP who is really “switched on” re HRT.  No, my Oncologist is a lady and is brilliant at her job but doesn’t seem to understand HRT.  I have contacted Ovacome and it’s a great site with lots of helpful info and helped me through 8 miserable months.

I see my Oncologist next month and will speak to her about it - a different Dr since my previous one has gone back to run her clinics in Edinburgh. 🤔

:thankyou:   4 your update.  Oncologists are terrified of HRT! it's time that they did some investigations as to how HRT is delivered.  Make a list of symptoms to take with you as well as details of this site. She could of course discuss with Dr Currie :-)

So it's the HRT ?  :-\ ...............

I think I'm having difficulty absorbing from the Estradot patch, don't know why. I also have had a mental crash and spent most of the day crying. Went to pharmacy who won't exchange the patches for Evorel. Cried helplessly.

Came home, took patches off. Put on gel and hoping for best. Still feeling horrible. Will have to email gp and see if they can specify Evorel. Still on and off loo.  :'(

It's trial and error that is so tiring  :-\ and if one is aware that 1 HRT eases symptoms better than a similar product, then it's up the GP to be aware of those small differences.  Keep drinking plenty.  Take pain relief!

I find after a panic attack I pee, great quantities, for 10 mins. every 20 mins. for several hours.  It's the tension held and then when I relax!

Thanks CLKD! Another one here finding your Nurofen tip invaluable for the VA cystitis-like symptoms  :thankyou:

That's OK - advice free  ;).  I mentioned somewhere that if I have slow bowel transit that my bladder is sensitive  >:(.  Nurofen can relax those feelings ;-)

Does it have to be Nurofen?  Do you take 2 just once a day.

No it's your choice.  The idea is to relax the bladder so it no longer irritates.

I take 2 Nurofen 3 times a day for 2-3 days.
