Title: How common is it to use half HRT patches as a gradual introduction?
Post by: Katejo on April 15, 2019, 07:58:29 PM
I have just started Evorel Conti but the consultant instructed me to use half patches without explaining why. I wish i had asked at the time. After reading other comments/discussions  about side effects and gradual introduction to extra oestrogen, I'd just like to know how common it is to start with half patches?

Hi katejo
Yes it is common to start on half a patch and then build up slowly. When I first started I put on the whole patch and had bad side effects such as dizziness, stomach cramps.
Hope you get on okay with the patches
Xx

Thanks for your help.
When I picked up my first prescription from the pharmacy, the pharmacist suggested that half ones might be insufficient because of interaction with Tegretol which I take. However I have just stumbled across an article online by Dr Currie which says that the interaction issue only applies to the tablet form. It suggests use of patches instead of tablets for patients who take Tegretol.
