Title: endocrinologist????
Post by: becca on April 03, 2019, 10:32:03 AM
Hi all,
Just wondering if anyone has seen and/or knows of an endocrinologist specialising in the menopause?  I found someone online - Dr Gordana M. Prelevic - but there don't seem to be many endocrinologists specialising in menopause.  I'm thinking of seeing one as my anxiety levels are through the roof and I'm heading back to crazy town again despite being on 6 pumps of oestrogel per day.  Last blood tests showed my thyroid is now outside normal range and I have an ongoing issue with SBHG levels.  meno clinic says it can't deal with thyroid or SBHG and I need to see my GP about that, but I want something more holistic as I feel the HRT is affecting the other readings (no issues there before starting HRT).  Could this hellish anxiety just be bx I haven't got my dosing on Tostran right?
Any advice or suggestions of specialists gratefully received,
xx

Anti-anxiety medication?  What's to lose?  Or 'rescue remedy' mouth spray or pastilles .......... whilst you do any research that you need to do.

Hi woodpecker.
 have your eastrogen levels increased?
I'm asking that because on eastrogel 4 pumps my very low eastrogen level did not increase one jot after more than 3 months.doc said  I wasnt absorbing it at all.  I was changed to patch 75 which she said  although its lower than 4 pumps if its being absorbed it might be enough. I did notice a slight improvement when I changed and I'm going up to 100 patch now.

I was just wondering if you are absorbing the gel. I think I've read on here that SHBG  can effect absorption. But I'm not confident to explain why. Maybe someone else will be able to help with that.
Are you booked to see your doc about your thyroid levels?
I agree with you that a more holistic approach seems favourable. I hope someone here knows about endocrynologists  I would be interested to know that too.
Xx

CLKD - I'm reluctant to take yet another drug, but yes will consider anti anxiety meds if I have to.

TC - I had the opposite situation - oestro plumeted when I changed to patches and I had to go back on the gel again.  I"m due to get my bloods done again in a few weeks, but I do know oestro will have increased as hot flush and insomnia symptoms have gone.  But whether it is enough and I'm absorbing enough I don't know.  I worry that there's loads of oestro stored in my thigh fat overloading my liver and I do notice that I go up two sizes in trousers due to fluid retention when I am using the gel but I don't know what, if anything, that means.

Woodpecker. I was originally on 50 patch before the gel and didnt absorb that either but I seen tobbe getting little more from new patch
When using the gel I remember a post where I asked about my thigh fat. Oh dear I got in a right state about application.but I dont believe it gets stored in your fat cells and I also dont think  transdermal will  pass through the liver. Someone correct me if I'm wrong

If your levels went down on the patch and up on the gel then maybe it suits you better. And flushes are controlled so you must be absorbing

As for the belly  I have increased belly since my operation. I have been asked if I've lost weight and certainly dont feel I've put t it on anywhere else, in fact my bum looks visibly smaller (and sadly flatter) yet I cant do up most of my  trousers that I could before the op. Maybe it's a shift in fat distribution or bloat from HRT. Dont know the answer to that soz  maybe someone else does. I'd be interested to know the answer.
Xx

Hi Woodpecker
Just saw your post as I've only just joined this board.  I was lucky enough to see Dr. Prelavic via the NHS the first time.  She's one of the top Endocrinologists in the world and specializes in the menopause.  She now only does private consultations (at least she did when I saw her about 3 years ago).  I had been taken off HRT by my GP due to high blood pressure (controlled via Ramipril) and was going barmy, so I decided to go and see her privately.  She said it was fine to stay on HRT and put me on Estrogel and Utrogestan.  So much better than the patches.  Thanks to her I got my life back.

I sent another friend with early menopause to see her and she was also very impressed.  In short, yes she's one of the best and well worth paying the private fee to see her.

Good luck and I hope you manage to sort things out soon. x

Just seen this thread as I am thinking of going to see an endocrinologist soon instead of menopause specialist. I have been having issues with peri menopause for about two years now, and recently started a low dose of HRT (Estraderm MX25 and Utrogestan), only second week in. This is early days but not sure whether it is going to really help, or, I may need to switch HRT. I have been having issues with heavy limbs and exercising being difficult, and had a borderline TSH reading just over 4 (but T4 value was looking fine) and alse feeling nauseaus and dizzy at times. Aside from the above mentioned Dr. Gordana Prelavic I was wondering whether anyone has any more recommendations for an endocrinologist also good at menopause issues (all these things are linked anyway and if one hormone is off the others then to follow suit). I also saw Dr Philip Kelly at the London Swiss Medical centre but any recommendations are much appreciated. Thanks! AG

Hi Ladies,

Regarding endocrinologists I am planning to either see Dr Gordana Prelevic or Dr Philip Kelly. I did a quick check on the BMA website https://www.bma.org.uk/about-us/patient-information/doctor-registration
to see whether these doctors are registered under GMC with GMC number. I found Dr Philip Kelly but not Dr G Prelevic.
My first choice would have been Dr G Prelevic but I am not sure what to make of this information. Do any of you have an suggestions? AG
