Title: Femoston 1/10 - no bleed this cycle
Post by: alibeau on March 12, 2019, 01:56:37 PM
Hi,

I have just started month seven of taking Femoston 1/10.  Things have been ticking along quite nicely..... however this is the first time where I have not had a bleed at all?  I usually have one towards the end of the two weeks of grey tablets or at least some spotting.... at the very latest it would arrive as I start the new pack of white tablets....

Anyone else experience this? Can this happen from time to time?

Any thoughts please?

Many thanks.

Ali x

I am peri, age 46.

Hello, Ali
When I was taking Femoston a few years ago, it did happen that I didn't get a bleed, I remember skipping 2 months and then the third month it was a very very slight bleed. My doctor assured me there is nothing to worry about - I probably had very thin uterine lining at that time so nothing to shed. I resumed normal although light bleeds afterwards.

I was 43 when I was started on Femoston.

The same here! I am on Femoston 2/10 and sometimes I have no a bleed and I was told that it is absolutely normal. Don't worry! :)

Morning!

Thank you all for your replies! Much appreciated!

I am feeling rather 'flushy' the past few days and not sleeping well so clearly I am having some type of blip with my hormones!! Joy!!  Hope things will settle down again soon.

Thanks again.

Why do you try a higher dose? I think that your are so young to need only 1 mg of estrogen.

Hi Emerald2017,

TBH I am clueless regarding dosages etc.

All I know is that I struggled for 18 months with symptoms, hideous hot flushes towards the end of that time.

Femoston 1/10 was mentioned on here as a good starting point, my GP also suggested it and as I am really quite settled on it and given the experiences I have read about on this forum with ladies struggling with different forms of and dosages of HRT, I think I would prefer not to mess about with things at the moment unless absolutely necessary?

As it happens, my bleed has started this morning, so quite odd timing for me...... but as I say I am generally doing well on 1/10.....

How many days into the new pack are you before the bleed started? In fact for most of us who are post-menopausal it is the withdrawal of the progesterone that triggers the bleed a couple of days later.

Also if you are peri-menopausal your own cycle will kick in sometimes so the bleeds may not happen at exactly the same time as you are finding. Another thing - as has been said - a certain proportion of women don't get a bleed at all on sequi HRT. In the final months of being on a monthly cycle ( when I was post-menopause at approx 57/58) I stopped getting a bleed on the HRT I was using - because my womb lining simply wasn't building up enough and the prog was doing its job keeping it thin when I was using it. It was because of this that I eventually went onto a longer cycle as I knew it was safe to do so.

As Emerald says - don't rule out going to a higher dose at some point if you need to, especially if that HRT type suits you otherwise, because that is a low dose and you are very young.

Thank you Hurdity.

Up until this point I had generally started spotting towards the end of the progesterone grey tablets, progressing to a ‘bleed' on the first day or two of the new pack of tablets and so that makes sense with regards to the withdrawal of the progesterone. This month it has just happened a little later than usual..... day 5 of the white tablets...

I do have to admit to being a little confused re dosage.  I presumed, but have no idea why, possibly from a place of fearing HRT, that I should opt to take the lowest dose of ‘hrt' possible that would alleviate my symptoms.......

Is this not the correct train of thought?

I am more than open to moving onto a higher dose if required but thought I was doing the best thing by taking the lowest dose I could ‘get away with'....

My GP did mention 2/10 at my last check up but as things were pretty settled on 1/10 we quickly moved on......

I feel so uneducated   ::)  :-\

Hi Alibeau,

I am on Femosten 1/10. If you wish to increase in the future due to poor symptom control etc, you can do this gradually using Zumenon. That is estrogen only tablet form. This was recomended by my menopause specialist. You can buy a tablet cutter and add half a tablet every other day and see how it goes. I found a jump to 2/10 too much for me. You could then increase to half a tablet extra every day etc - or even more slowly . Then eventually you would be up to the 2/10 dose, and can switch to 2/10 if you need to do so. If you are fine on 1/10 now why change?

Hiya Alibeau

When i was taking femoston 1/10 I did get the odd time when the bleed didn't happen or it would start way into the next pack.
The longer i tool the 1/10 the heavier the bleeds became, then started to get breakthrough bleeding in between, so was switched to a conti HRT.  As others have said maybe discuss switching to a higher dose. Hope things settle for you soon x
