Title: Just starting Evorel Conti patches. Side effects already
Post by: ali 61 on September 03, 2018, 02:46:20 PM
Hello Ladies. I am new to this forum and HRT. I am 57. Last period was over 2 years ago.
I've been suffering badly for about a year with Insomnia,(2 hours sleep per night average) hot sweats, dizziness, nausea, foggy head and ears ringing.
My GP suggested Evorel Conti Patches, as I have had migraines for many years.
I started the patches 10 days ago, changing them Mondays and Fridays.
However I am now getting really bad period-type stomach pains (No bleeding) They are like really bad cramps.
I've also got worse nausea.
Spoke to my GP on the phone today, and he said to persevere for a few more weeks. He even suggested cutting a patch in half and trying that for a while. If that doesnt help, he said it may mean I cant use HRT.
So right now, I have been in bed all day, feeling so poorly. Cant face food. Nausea, dizzy and cramps.
Please ladies......does this get better? Do I just have to hibernate for a while until my body gets used to the patch?
I hope somebody will be able to help me. Thank you.  :)

Hi Ali. I agree with Hasty. Period type pains are normal when first starting HRT although the dizziness might not be connected. It's also common to have breakthrough bleeding or spotting for the first six months when starting a conti HRT so if this happens please don't be alarmed.

Hopefully your symptoms will subside and you will find a benefit from HRT.

Hi Ali. I have had period pains when starting a new regime and, for me, they have usually subsided after 4-6 weeks so perhaps stick with it if you possibly can.  It seems to be progesterone that can cause me to feel nauseas but everyone's different and if you're in a lot of discomfort with the pain, that could be making you feel sick.

You're not alone now that you have joined this forum and you will get lots of support and advice from the lovely ladies here.

Wishing you well.

If it's the constant progesterone which is causing your symptoms then you could change to a sequi HRT which only adds progesterone in for the last two weeks of the cycle. You would get a monthly bleed but this is usually light after the initial couple of months. I changed back to sequi as have others on here.

Has your doctor investigated your dizziness, nausea and ringing in the ears? These symptoms are typical of an inner ear problem and may not be to do with menopause. It's important to rule out other conditions.

You are no longer dealing with this alone and will get lots of support on here.
