Title: Inflammatory conditions and menopause
Post by: Woodlands on August 10, 2018, 07:51:15 AM
Hi ladies.
I have been on here about six years.
I developed Asthma with peri... Non smoker always and no family history of it either.
Currently had steroids, two inhalers, spirometry tests... Little improvement... Now bloods and chest xray.
Has anyone else been the same and how did you manage..... I laugh lots... Lie is precious so I make the most of every day--end up coughing and using a ventolin.. Not a good look.

Hi woodlands

Like you I developed asthma in peri.  I tried the brown and blue inhaler and had an asthma nurse see me regularly (mine was put down to various allergies)

Things weren't improving with the brown and blue so she tried me with Fostair, it's a pink inhaler which has the brown qualities in along with the reliever and she gave me a handbag-size spacer which must be used with it.  My asthma is much more controlled on that as during attacks I'm getting the benefit of the brown in it too

I can't fault my old surgery who had this asthma nurse, she worked hard to get this to a manageable level x

I understand that asthma can start at any age for both men and women. The meno does seem to increase stress though, and that can be a trigger for inflammatory conditions.

Hi

I usually suffer from relatively mild hay fever but this year, thanks to peri menopause, hay fever has been pretty bad for me. I developed a cough, have had a dry throat and it was pretty much a nightmare during most of June and into July (grass pollen high season). Luckily, symptoms have got milder and I do cough a lot less. I just hope for all of us these symptoms lessen once peri menopause is over. All the best and hopefully Asthma will get milder again or disappear. Anna

It has been a bad hay-fever year for everyone though.

Hi

Yes, this year was worse for hayfever in general due to weather with a very long spell of no rain. But I acquired additional symptoms like a cough I never had before. Now, thankfully getting better. Anna

Yes my asthma suddenly returned after not experiencing symptoms since my early 20's.  It got really bad last autumn and I was put on Fostair - it was the 3rd winter in a row where I was suffering. I hadn't related it to peri before, but it certainly fits with other symptoms. I was also a smoker though so I know that played a huge part. Gave up smoking 8 months ago and no longer need inhalers apart from occasional blue puff - taking femoston 2/10 for 5 months. Really hoping this autumn it stays away.
