Title: Ear advice !
Post by: dazned on April 15, 2017, 07:21:53 PM
Hi everyone

Can you help, last 5/6 days I've had a really heavy cold, headaches, blocked sinuses and left ear has been blocked, well like it sometimes feels after long plane journey . Haven't been able to hear out of it for days,no pain at all though. Nose is not as blocked now except first thing on waking, and now have chestycough but tonight sticky liquid is seeping out of my ear !! Still no pain, still can't hear. Any advice ,as it's Easter won't be able to see a gp anytime soon!  ::)

Its strange you have no ear pain as liquid from the ear is normally an ear infection but also can be a sign of a perforated ear drum so i would phone 911 or whatever the number is. Used to be called NHS direct?

Look up perforated ear drum on the NHS site. Only a worry if you get a high temp, pain etc.

If your eardrum has perforated then you are at high risk of infection getting in to inner ear so do ring 111. They can arrange an out of hours GP appointment for you.

As we age so the tubes narrow in the ears.  That blocked-up feeling is a nuisance for me, if I get the ear a good wriggle the area can open but it doesn't remain so and I have fuzzy hearing.  Bugga .........

Mine often feel wet but I don't get the seepage.  Did U ring?

Sounds like the pressure is different inside to outside.  My burst ear drums have left me with this problem.  The fluid gets trapped in the inner ear.  I don't have a blocked nose.  It all started from a sinus infection.  Keep pinching your nose and covering your mouth and put pressure to pop them but if it hurts stop. A nasal spray may help but saying that I've tried everything they've put to me and it's still blocking. Google eustacian tube dysfunction

Just got back, and said there was too much seepage to see ear drum properly but she said it sounds very much like a perforated ear drum with infection. She listened to my chest as still have very chest y cough ,have antibiotics which is for ears/sinuses but she said it could take a few weeks for perforation to heal  ::)

They told me mine would take up to 3 months, they weren't kidding !
How strange you didn't get pain ? I got bad pain with the left with gunky seepage and excruciating pain in the right with blood and gunk seeping x

I thought it strange that I didn't get any pain, although every now and again I get a shooting pain to through my ear ,enough to make me jump skywards! Excruciating but over in seconds thankfully.
