Title: Calcification found on mammogram
Post by: lizzog on March 07, 2017, 04:04:18 PM
Was recalled today from my second mammogram. They've found a very small calcification on my right breast and did
another mammogram, ultrasound then a biopsy. It took a while as it's so small they could barely find it.
I've got to wait til next week before I get the results.
Has anyone had this and
can you tell me any positive stories?

It's always a worry.  What was the mood like at the appt.?  Why don't 'they' tell us more  ::).  I had a lump removed in the 1990s which was OK until it got to histology, had a course of treatment and still here >wave<.

Yes it can be quite a normal finding as one ages, I think it can be intensified if one breastfed as well.

That's interesting- I fed one for 9 months and one for 18 months  ;D think she got a good service there!!!
Waiting a week will kill me- I'm going to try a few diversions!

I had calcification in my right breast 12 years ago. The biopsy came back normal and the calcification went away after a while. It was as big as a walnut.

Thanks Dyan - mine seems to be very small and was very hard to even see it and then find it for the biopsy. I'm very anxious about the whole thing. Just had pneumonia and was in hospital over Christmas and now this....

Hi Lizzog,
My friend had a very small calcification that they found hard to get to for the biopsy but all turned out OK. Hopefully yours will too.

I had calcium deposits as well. They did a biopsy and inserted a marker into the area which would show up in future mammograms. All was well with the biopsy.

Get everything over B4 Summer?  It amazes me why Medics don't explain more of the whys and wherefores as we go forwards for different investigations  ::)

Thanks everyone for your kind words of reassurance- always nice to know you're not on your own with these things!
I've had a marker put in too.

Yes I agree. If I'd known about this first it would t have been such a shock. I thought it was most likely a poor image they'd got rather than actually having found something.

I also had what they called micro calcifications in my one breast and the followed biopsy was clear. They also left in a marker. All the best, based on the other posters on here, it sounds like it should be fine.

Quick update. Calcification was found to be benign which is a huge relief.
When I mentioned  I was
On hrt he suggested I maybe ought to look at coming off it....hmmm operative word there is 'he'...
My symptoms have been pretty bad the last few weeks- night sweats, joint aches - I'm 50 so not planning on coming off anytime soon.
