Title: Garden Centres.
Post by: littleminnie on May 24, 2016, 02:58:45 PM
Is it me or are there less plants around this year.
I normally but a selection for hanging baskets and tubs, but this year there isn't as much choice.
Been to 3 garden centres, b&q, homebase. No impatiens, surfinias, cosmos.  :(

They do seem to be focusing on other things i.e cards, gifts, food etc as well as having  a well equipped cafe/restaurant.
I haven't been round my local ones yet so don't know what is or isn't there.

They all have tons of petunias. I like them but they always seem to get full of little flies.

Oh good thread!   I have stopped going to a couple of local centres because they have morphed into Cotton Traders etc., there is 1 family run centre which is going to close as the owners are retiring.  There is also a wild flower company but they open at 'funny' hours so I have to rely on seeing their plants at 'country fairs'  ::).

3 weeks ago I did buy several plants apparently grown in the UK locally - rather than those trucked in from Holland and Belgium …...

Just been to another garden centre today, didn't get anything from there either.   They had an artificial hydrangea for £32, reduced from £112!!!

We have a lovely garden centre with a walled garden nearby. There is now a very pleasant somewhat upmarket cafe there now, which is a great meeting place in beautiful surroundings. There is also the usual garden centre a bit further away, with the usual extras, Cottontraders etc, but rarely go there.
