Title: Sports!
Post by: CLKD on November 29, 2015, 03:34:17 PM
I'm not active personally.  Walking is my limit and occasionally cycling.

However: have watched a successful Tour de France and le Veulta, several of the F1 races as well as most of MotoGP, which have finished until March.  2-day GB have WON the Davis Cup  :bounce: in Ghent.   The trophy is HUGE  ;D and Belgium have been in a Final for the 1st time in many years.

Have watched interviews with Bradley Smith and Cal Crutchlow this evening  :-*  :-* and a film about how Danny Kent became Moto2 first British Champion for eversomany years  :bounce:

F1 has moved from the BBC ……… DC has moved with it but don't know about the other presenters, i.e. Suzy Perry, EddieJ ………. interesting times!

DH was watching American Football earlier this week but it was on too late for me to be bothered sitting up!

Ok.........never been good at sport until now. I came last in the egg and spoon race and was last to be chosen for netball teams. Apparently I am good at pelvic floor exercises. Yesterday, the physio said so. So there! :na:

  ……..  not too much of this then Ju Ju :  :hapij:   :bounci:

There is an advert about 'joining' to do something for Sport Relief ………. the two words don't go together, surely  :D  ::)

I don't do running! Or bouncing! My grandson is doing all of that for me today. It's exhausting watching him.

Cos I'm slim and tend to wear sporty type clothes, people who don't know me, think I am sporty!  ;)

F1 qualifying at 12.30 on the 'other' side, MotoGP this afternoon on the laptop, courtesy of BTSport.  However, what's 'sport relief' got to do with providing charity ………. I don't find any relief when doing sport  ;)
Title: Re: Sports!
Post by: Ju Ju on March 19, 2016, 03:54:48 PM
Relief when watching perhaps? I feel exhausted watching sport, so no need to do it myself.  ;)
Title: Re: Sports!
Post by: babyjane on March 19, 2016, 04:00:44 PM
I have never been sporty.  My friend and I used to take it in turns to come last in school sports day races.  I was always last to be picked with an 'oh no Miss, do we have to have Jane.

I used to cycle though - 5 miles to work and 5 miles back.  No wonder I ended up with exhaustion.

Tried the gym,  bo-ring

Can't swim very well

Love walking the dog

Don't even watch much sport by choice.

Back to the drawing board with F1 qualifying, I hope the race is so good I forget the awful qualifying  ;D
Title: Re: Sports!
Post by: CLKD on March 19, 2016, 07:47:40 PM
Agreed.  This kind of qualifying was trialled for a couple of seasons in the early 2000s and didn't work.  Public were paying to see qualifying and note was happening on Track  >:(.

Got my fix of Mark Webber, DC and Colin Edwards, same again tomorrow ;-).  Did you see Guy Martin and DC at Silverstone racing super bike against Red Bull F1?  Good programme.
Title: Re: Sports!
Post by: Two hoots on March 20, 2016, 05:57:53 PM
I didn't see the programme you mention I'll see if I can download it. As far as today's race, it was ok, nothing exciting and hardly any overtaking. I was so relieved when Alonso walked away from what was left of his car, I hate the big accidents when the car overturns.

A few years ago when I was on a Mediterranean cruise I was walking back to the ship in Monaco and who was walking towards me but David Coulthard, I was too star struck to say anything so luckily my sister asked if she could take his photo, he said yes so she took it but I just stood like a dummy looking at him  :o

  bet you kick yourself every day!   Didn't see the F1, too busy gardening then watching MotoGP.  Apparently F1 have dropped the 'new' qualifying idea  ::)
Title: Re: Sports!
Post by: CLKD on May 21, 2016, 03:55:23 PM
Well I ought to do more exercise but right now I can hardly put my foot over the edge of the bath into the bubbles  :-[

Last week I did well, went for several walks and though that the dreadful tiredness during and after was due to lack of stamina.

As well as walking to keep bones healthy; swimming, cycling ; can help with anxiety.  Though for years I haven't been bothered to undress B4 swimming in the pool.

I also feel that GOOD footwear is important, both for every day use as well as doing sports/walking.  I see many ladies with bad footwear and bet a lot of them go to their GPs with knee/back pains  >:(.

Sitting at the computer etc. correctly is important.  Making sure that the Company provides a good 'work place' and also to take their away from screen time on a regular basis!  Does anyone here belong/ed to a Company who provided a sports environment for staff?

I wasn't at all sporty when I was at school.  It was either music or sport, and music won!   Having said that, I did do Highland dancing (as opposed to Scottish country dancing) as a teenager - it's incredibly aerobic and fantastic to watch, even now.  I actually took it up again in my early 30's - my re-introduction to it was doing the Highland Fling at a St. Andrew's Night when we lived down south, and then being asked to do it again, straight away, the same night.  I could hardly walk, the next day!!!!   I kept it going during my 30's (the dancing, that is, not just the Highland Fling!) until a back injury from a car crash put a stop to it when I was 35.    Anyone else do Highland in their school days, or at any other time??
Title: Re: Sports!
Post by: CLKD on May 21, 2016, 08:19:57 PM
Music and Mime, Country Dancing  ;D
I didn't do the Highland Fling until I was 13, part of our Ballet School Classes.  Have photos somewhere  :-X.  We danced over Xssd swords.

I hated being watched doing anything other than swimming for the School and dancing, so sports at School were a nightmare: hockey >freezing weather<, cross country the same …….. as for running, why bother if one can walk  ::)
Title: Re: Sports!
Post by: babyjane on May 23, 2016, 03:37:55 PM
I used to do line dancing, that is also aerobic and such fun.  Cycling was definitely my thing, think I said that before on this thread.

Hubby is watching the French Open tennis as I type.

Just got back from daily dog walk  :)

I've never been a team player so team sports were a nightmare,

Do you want to hear a story - during a netball tournament at school (juniors) I was 'marking' a girl called Christine. She was about to take a shot at the goal when she dropped the ball.  I picked it up and couldn't understand why everyone in my team was calling to me.  Being the nice, polite girl I was and not wanting to get into trouble I handed the ball back to Christine!!!!  Couldn't understand why everyone in my team started screaming at me  ::)
Title: Re: Sports!

Title: Re: Sports!
Post by: babyjane on May 23, 2016, 03:52:12 PM
me neither which is why I handed the ball back to my opponent when she dropped it instead of throwing it to one of my own team.  Wonder why I wasn't picked for the school netball team  :whist:

Phew!  I remember always being picked last  :-\ …… and remember not wanting to use the 'slide' of solid ice in the playground ……… 'cos I knew it would hurt if I fell down  :'(
Title: Re: Sports!
Post by: babyjane on May 23, 2016, 04:03:35 PM
I also remember not wanting to join in doing handstands against the wall in the playground because I was a chunky child and the others would laugh at my fat bum  :'(

Anyway back to sports - school sports day  :gym:

Title: Re: Sports!
Post by: Dulciana on May 24, 2016, 12:35:07 PM
Although I always find Wimbledon exciting (come on, Andy!), there's something very relaxing about it, too.  I think it's the hypnotic backwards-and-forwards of the ball - I also love that split second when the ball seems to stop in mid-air just before it's hit for a serve............ ::)

I don't like tennis: except the Veteran Tour at the Royal Albert Hall each December, now that I really enjoy.  Himself gave me the Life Story of the chap whose name escapes me …….. but he plays with several balls at once and is a real joker on the Court.  (Book is upstairs, I'm not  ::)  ;D )

I've been hooked on the NFL this year, from 6pm until I go to bed in Sunday's it's all I watch  ::) I am a big rugby fan anyway so it's not that different apart from the armour  :o  ;D I even got tickets to see a live game in Wembley in October.

F1 and tennis are ending, rugby and NFL are going strong and in January the tour down under and the Australian open tennis will start another season. It's no wonder the year goes soooo quickly I'm always looking forward to the next sporting event. I've already booked to see the Paris Roubaux cycling in April  :)

Been enjoying virtual MotoGP racing from various Circuits, 2day it's Silverstone ...... apparently e-racing and F1 have done similar but I haven't caught up caught up with those.  Such clever technology - does anyone 'game' .......... I would love to have time to try it.  I would love to sit in a flight stimulator too.

Looks like F1 will get it's way at Silverstone for 2 races late July early August - they won't have to quarantine apparently  >:(

Virtual Boat Race tomorrow afternoon which should be fun.

Wimbledon will be quiet ......... and people will lose out on renting their properties to TV crews etc..   I'm not into tennis but it will be a completely different part of London this year.

Chelsea was streamed and footie has been shown retrospectively - R we likely to see Sir Cliff singing again ?  ;)

I love having a bet on the grand national. it's a childhood thing where we'd all pick a horse and win whatever we'd all put in the pot. 😆 ( 7 of us) .
I know the National isn't for everyone, my OH hates it, says it's too much for the horses. 🤷‍♀️

Grand National should be run without riders!

I am sure that there could be recordings of crowds played over the tannoy at Race Meetings?

MotoGP is to begin in mainland Europe, S.stone cancelled quite early on.  F1s have been testing at S.stone and apparently, crowds of cars arrived to see if they could get into the Circuit  :cuss: :beat:

Grand National should be run without riders!

Do you mean just the Grand National?
Title: Re: Sports!
Post by: CLKD on June 13, 2020, 05:17:44 PM
Yes.  I HATE the Grand National because so many horses are damaged etc..  So those horses that are bred to run should go round on their own, interesting to see how many would stop and eat the first fence  ;D - or graze the grass infront of it.  Flat racing is better ........... because horses love to run.  Bit like dogs who will race around.  Jumping is something that horses would do in order to escape predators. I would also ban the carrying of whips.

I missed the boat race  >:( but can't see where it was shown .........

Just as well you're not in charge then CLKD because you would stop a lot of people enjoying themselves.

Especially the Irish ......... interesting that not many articles in the media about the C-19 effects at Cheltenham ?

I think watching the horses making their own decisions would make good betting odds  ;D

Which - the Irish - the Country that loves horse racing more than any other ?  that breeds some of the finest blood stock ? that know how to Party  ;D

Or C-19 effects of the Cheltenham Meeting?  Apparently many were affected but it was not headline news.
Title: Re: Sports!
Post by: Cazikins on June 13, 2020, 05:41:54 PM
Cheltenham - probably didn't make the headlines because there last meeting was the 27th March & things had just kicked off.
English people also love horse racing (& know how to party).  :)

It was discussed long and hard about cancelling Cheltenham but as one bookie said to me, "It will be a brave Man who stops 100,000 Irish men arriving"  ;D.

When I went to watch racing over hurdles many years ago I was surprised at how small the horses were !  Sadly 1 didn't get up after a fall so the jockey had to walk back with saddle and bridle  :'(

How do you know a bookie CLKD - are you a secret gambler? ;)
So you have seen a hurdle race then - have you seen a steeplechase? they're even bigger fences you know.

As if it wasn't enough that there are endless ancient repeats on TV, now we have to suffer football too  >:( >:( >:(
Current affairs is awful too, 10 days of wall-to-wall Dominic Cummins when everyone was sick of it after 2 days, now probably a month of racism.

Ascot this week.  With no punters  ::)

I have an image of our Queen: sitting in a onesie with large fluffy sippers, sipping a cuppa in front of a large TV  ;D or does 1 think that her Maj will be dressed up in pearls and a hat .......... cheering from the comfort of her lounge.

Those that would normally attend have been asked to dress up and put photos onto various platforms, I think for Charity.

That's what I did but without the onesie. Watching it on TV doesn't make as much difference as I thought actually. You still have the commentary etc - it's when they cross the finishing line that you'll notice it as
that's where most of the race goers are.

Can't wait to get back trackside & have a little flutter or 2 with my race going buddies.

Sergio Perez has tested positive but Racing Point have 2 other drivers to choose from ........... instead of the whole Team being sent back to base which is opposite the Circuit.

Apparently Perez returned to his country as his mother had been involved in an accident.  Mexico.

So mayB the team should have given him some Leave 'cos his mind won't be on the job anyway!

No team spirit there then, a) no respect for his sponsors, manager, engineers and b) no thought for the costs to the Team should they not get expected results this next couple of weeks.

As with Joffra Archer, I would sack him on the spot! However: with football all the Team could be carried on a coach to the next venue and incarcerated into an Hotel? so that no one gets the chance to slip off to see his dog/s .........

How boring until the last couple of Laps though  :-\ ....... MotoGP and F1 next weekend, no contest there then!  70th anniversary at Silverstone next week I think that's 70 years since the 1st race there?  At least the weather was fine and is set fine for next week too unless 1 is North of Newcastle.
