Still up, don't go to bed until after 11.30 ish, tonight it may be later as i am having the anxiety feelings again  :( Feel better staying up sitting up on the forum lol. Hope everyone has a good night sleep. xx

Hope your anxiety feelings soon go jgr.

I've just got back from the pub after dropping OH off at his house. Am now waiting for the kettle to boil (so rock'n'roll me!) while feeding three cats (two of which aren't mine). Usually go to bed around 12.30-1.00 but as it's school holidays and I don't have to work (double yay) I tend to be a bit later. Still get up at 6.30 though - hate the fuzzy head that a lie-in brings.

when the clocks change spring and autumn you have to adjust the setting in your profile CLKD.  If you wait until the end of October it will come right again  :)

;D  I said that when we retired we would keep to our hours, well that didn't last long  ::). There are TV programmes we never used to watch which makes us later to bed so later to wake ………. so having to set the alarm can be a shock  :o  :P
Title: Re: Who is still up?
Post by: Taz2 on August 14, 2015, 09:44:29 PM
Ha ha - I still wake up at 6  no matter what time I go to bed. As long as I get my five hours in bed I'm usually ok.

You could always watch the programmes snuggled up in bed.....

I'm still up. Don't start getting ready for bed until after 11. By the time I've faffed about and let the dog out its nearer 11:30 before I get to bed.

I always wake up early now....gone are the days of snoozing late.

Whoops - forgot to report in!!

I didn't go to the pub as my son's girlfriend was holding a Stella & Dot party. Fab jewellery which I was determined not to be drawn into but, of course, I did order a bangle. There was a great statement necklace (whatever that means!) but it was £185 so I went off that pretty quickly. There were some really pretty bags too.

By the time I managed to extricate myself the pub was closed.. got home around midnight... however tonight is music and dominoes (Old Boys) night so there's that to look forward to.

Surprisingly enough.... no!!!

I stayed in tonight after a really busy weekend with all of the family here at some point and then what with one son getting attacked by the stomach bug or the something-I've-eaten-effect I seemed to spend the day in a sort of total "holding it together without showing it on the outside" frenzy. So, now, everyone apart from the stomach bug son who lives here (only for one more week though) have gone home and I can relax a bit more. Son has had some soup and is looking much brighter so fingers crossed there.

Hopefully you have had some sleep now?

Hope you get some sleep CLKD.  I'm just watching a spectacularly marked grey tabby cat, who visits about this time of night, eating his way through the saucers of food my own ones have disdainfully turned their noses up at. I've no idea where he comes from but he rushes in, hoovers up everything and then rushes back out through the cat flap. He is gorgeous!

Yes a quick trip to the pub!

Awake at 6.50? I'd been up for an hour by then  ;D  I don't nap in the day the boss wouldn't like it plus it upsets my night time sleep.

I'm just listening to music on here while the cats prowl around each other waiting to be fed. Youngest son has just asked me (politely) to turn it down. Result!

He's just always like that. A few years ago he went to Canada for a year (came back after seven months though). He only knew one person there (via internet gaming) had no idea really what he was going to do if he couldn't find work and didn't even begin packing until 9 the night before he left. I went up the pub in the end and left him to it. Everything got done. Nothing got left behind. I just hope the same can be said tomorrow! I'm sure he'll enjoy his four years there and then the thirty years paying the debt off!  ;D

Purplenanny - 3 nights isn't addictive  ::) ……. it's when a person needs them week after week and has to increase the dosage in order to get to sleep.  Try taking them on alternative nights? and stop worrying if you don't sleep on the others!

I only have one glass of wine because I have to drive to my local so it's not too bad. I find that if I add to the calories with crisps or peanuts then that makes a lot of difference. I don't have a glass of wine with my dinner as I prefer to have it up the pub. I try to have two days when I don't have any though but failed miserably last week. As my husband says I've got the "breaking strain of a kit-kat" lol

Early evening trip to the pub so back by 11. Managed to get into bed just before midnight - result - but then didn't actually turn the light out till 1 and then kept waking up just enough to know I was awake. I was really pleased when it got to 6 as that doesn't seem a bad time to get up. Off to work now.

I seem to have a window of opportunity to get to sleep and that window is shrinking. If I'm not asleep within half an hour of going to bed then it's not going to happen and if and when I drop off I waken up regularly.

I know that feeling honeybun - that's why I started going to bed later. If I go before 12 I can't get to sleep. I do wake up every fifty minutes or so through the night but only enough to know I'm awake. I know this is what's contributed to my fibro though as I don't get into the muscle repairing sleep.

Title: Re: Who is still up?

Hi purplenanny. It is thought that fibromyalgia often occurs in people with poor sleep due to the fact that you need to be asleep for a certain length of time in order for muscle repair to begin to take place. I can't remember a lot of it now but sleep goes in cycles and if you are constantly waking up - even if only for a few minutes - before the cycle is complete then the cycle starts again and you don't reach the all important repairing stage. This is from the Fibro website http://www.fmauk.org/what-is-fm-highlights-203'showall=&start=3

The main medication for fibro is one of the older tricyclic anti depressants. These are prescribed in a low dose because they have a pain relieving element but also improve the quality of sleep. What help has your sister been given?

Hi Taz
Thanks for the info.
Sis was given anti depressants but she hatsd the effect they had on her. Made her even more tired during the day than she already is. She also has chrinic fatigue syndrome so it is difficult to relate the symptoms to each condition.
Her sleep at night is very disturbed, especially when her arthritis is giving her pain.
Poor love has such a lot to cope with, but she is a jolly little sole

Yes, CLKD, very true saying

Wish you all a peaceful night. PN x x

I'm still up!

Purplenanny - if she was given amitryptiline then these make you feel really drowsy in the day for the first few weeks but then it evens out. I was diagnosed with CFS first and then it was changed to fibro. The neurologist I saw said that it was usually one or the other not both but thoughts on this may have changed since then.

Post by: Taz2 on October 07, 2015, 07:14:01 PM
It took me a long time to accept that I had to pace myself. Like a lot of people with fibro and/or CFS I felt that it could be beaten and that you shouldn't give in to it - WRONG! You can't beat it into submission you just have to go with what your body is telling you. For instance if I was going shopping one day then I knew I couldn't do anything else on that day and the next day would have to be easy. I was lucky in that I could drop my work down to a few half days a week although I did still have children at home then. I used to find that I could do around thirty minutes of activity and then have to rest for about twenty. I also found that sitting with my feet up (felt like a right old woman!) was better to just sitting down. I do think that Co-enzyme Q10 helped me at the time - it certainly seemed to help me think less foggily.

It is a really difficult illness as you look fine. Yes, start another thread although I think we did have a fibro one going a while ago?

No, she hasn't had anything different for a long while as she is an old lady. I think she must have sniffed or munched something in the garden dropped by a bird. Or there have been cats around.
Who knows what her nose and tongue have been up to under a tree.

Her diet is strict now as I know there are so many things she can't digest....so it's plain fare these days. Dog meal with a little chicken is the norm.

The trick for me, toffeecushion, was to start going to bed later. I rarely go to bed before 12.30 and the alarm is set for 6.15 but i'm usually awake from 5.30ish which doesn't seem too early. It was a long, long night last night. I couldn't sleep much because of this virus/cold.  I'm fortunate that I don't often get viruses, but when I do I seem to get it bad. I'm twitchy though as the last time I had a virus, it developed into a chest infection and asthma and necessitated a hospital stay. If I can get through this without any problems, then I can relax about the whole experience. I've upped my medication as a precaution. Today is a duvet/pj/TV day.

Really feel for you toffeecushion. I've never been a good sleeper - have always hated sleep to be honest. My mum always said that I was too afraid of missing something! I am used to waking up in the night. 5 is really early. I get up around 6. As long as I am in bed for five hours I can cope. I drive everyone mad in the mornings as I'm a wide-awake-straight-away kind of person and forget that others take a while to come to.  ;D Not sure what to suggest!

Now I actively try not to sleep in the day as I want to try to have a good sleeping pattern. If I start to nod off in the evening hubby has strict instructions to waken me up right away.
The only time I sleep in the day is when I'm not well. Otherwise I really try and wait until bedtime.

You should have taken it up with you CLKD. I was awake although it would have been one-finger typing on my phone as I don't take the laptop to bed.  ;D

Why were you awake?

Anxiety.  Had been a bugga all day  :-\ although I did manage to eat.  We sat up to watch F1 hi-lights so I was pumped what with Lewis winning so knew it was going to take time to drop off.  By 2.30 I was wide awake and monitoring the remaining anxiety.  Usually the lap-top is by the bed  ::)

.. although it's not recommended to do any screen activities if you can't sleep due to the "blue-light" effect.

When I read "I was pumped" I wondered what exactly had kept you awake!!!

I seem to go through cycles.

For weeks I sleep well. Then I start...I get to sleep but keep wakening up. Then it takes me hours to get to sleep. I seem to have a sleep window....and if I can't sleep in that window then I know I'm in for a bad night.
Trouble is I don't do anything any different so I really don't know what causes the changes.
If I did then that would be a huge step forward.

Such a nuisance when that happens - here's to a better night tonight for you. I forgot to check in last night but I went to bed EARLY! Was in bed by 11.30. Light off around 12.00 and slept till 5.30. Woke up at 1.50 and lay there willing it to be getting up time. I was really disappointed when I realised I'd only been asleep for less than two hours. Went back quite quickly though and only woke up twice more for a few moments.

If I sleep in the day I won't sleep at night so I don't even try.
The only time I have a nap is if I'm unwell. I wouldn't dare doze in the evening as then sleep would be impossible later. Hubby has strict instructions to prod me if I doze off in the evening.

It's the only way for me....wish it was different but I've never been a great sleeper.

Its so annoying the lack of sleep thing.  . It will take some time for your bodyclock to swing over to your new bedtime.  My hubby uses circadian from an online chemist after doing 3 wks of 12hrs night shifts, it helps him.

I really feel more for women like yourself who have to work full time I do 18hrs over 2 days and quite frankly thats enough for me.  Dont know how you manage it.

As of tomorrow i am am doing my yoga dvd daily, nothing to lose, to see if it helps.

I've never been good at sleeping. I hated it as a baby and toddler and it's the same now. I reckon I hate to miss anything!! I got fed up with going to bed at elevenish and then waking up five hours later so worked out that if I went to bed at one then five hours from then would be six which is an ok time to get up and start the day. My mum was the same - although she hated getting up in the morning.  ;D  I only work four days but do feel that the last year has been quite hard work!

I thought I'd sorted out my sleep problems as had a really good week, but back to the usual. Take hours to nod off. Reading, listening to music, body eventually gives in. Strangely when I'm asleep flushes don't waken me, yet during the day they make me feel as if I'm on fire.

I'm here!
DH is away so I'm not that settled, plus trying to get everything sorted for the move and it's all taking so long. Called the services (electric, phone, ....) today and they just take so long to go through what's happening, not helped by having to explain that I have no idea if / when anyone will move in!

Oh, and had to take the car for service / MOT and it took ages as they had some staff off sick - I really didn't need to be sitting around for several hours when the moving jobs are mounting and the day is (way too fast!) approaching.

I'm awake. Very awake. DH is lucky not to have been smothered! He has to get up several times a night to go to the loo ( yes, he's been to the doctor, checks etc). He wakes me up as he gets out of bed, then wakes me up again thoroughly when he gets back in, then tosses and turns for a while before falling asleep and starts snoring! I am sooo awake now! I'm not feeling the love at the moment. Well he will find me very grumpy tomorrow! Grrrr!  >:(
Title: Re: Who is still up?
Post by: Joyce on May 08, 2016, 09:18:44 AM
Oh My. Should have joined you ju ju. My hubby seldom gets up at night, but I sympathise. My hubby when he comes to bed hauls the duvet, tosses & turns until he's comfy, then snores about a minute after his head hits the pillow. When I moan next day, his reply is "Well I had a great sleep!" Bully for him.  >:(   I've  taken to mainly sleeping on my own, though fat lot of good it did me last night. I was tossing & turning. Himself was snoring very, very loudly. Sure he must set off the Richter scale some nights.  ;D

Hope you're not too grumpy today.
Title: Re: Who is still up?

Grumpy in a humourous way!

Difficult to stay mad at him for long. I have told him he is very lucky to be alive, particularly when he said he was trying not to disturb me!

I'm doing a load of housework today to tire me out. The good thing is I usually sleep well if not disturbed, whereas pre HRT I regularly had sleepless nights. Normally DH will go to the other room to sleep if he is restless. The trouble is the spare bed is 2ft 6 ins wide in a small room ( with a bed underneath which when put together makes a 5ft bed). I don't feel guilty that he is the one to use it as he opted to convert the larger spare bedroom into his office. If he hadn't we could have slept apart more comfortably in a bigger bed.

Sometimes PompeyLou (my Mum was born in Pompey & grew up there in the war).

Anyone who is up a bit late or can't sleep, or has just got in from a night out etc & fancies a chat can drop in here to see who is about.

I'm having the odd night where I can't get off to sleep, or if I do then it is only for an hour or so, then a trip to the loo, then a few hours awake before I get back to sleep just as the birds are waking up  >:(

Pompeylou - join in!

Cazi - the birds are waking up much earlier nowadays don't you find? I always feel that once they are awake I can get up too - that's probably why I like the winter!

Cazi - the birds are waking up much earlier nowadays don't you find? I always feel that once they are awake I can get up too -

4.15 most mornings Taz. But it's when the bl**dy Seagulls start that really, really. really annoys me. They are noisy buggers.

Hope it was a good gig. Toast & marmalade, what are you like..... Paddington bear liked marmalade didn't he?
I.O.W. next then ??

The gig was great. Only twenty miles away so not too far. Very intimate little venue - all little antique type tables and a various assortment of table lamps. I've got another one on Thursday - go me!  Not sure about I.O.W.... would have to take a few extra marmalade sandwiches!

Well done you for having the "balls" to go Taz, I'd be well out of my comfort zone. It does sound nice though.
I read that Billy Joel is at Wembley in September. I have seen him 3 - 4 times, the last time he was over here was in 2006 I think.
I'd love to go & see him again as it will probably be his last time (67 this month he was) but we are away that week in the west country. Plus it's too darn expensive for a ticket.
Cazi x
Title: Re: Who is still up?
Post by: Taz2 on May 23, 2016, 09:47:20 AM
I'm not so good at bigger gigs - didn't even go and see Frank Turner at the Albert Hall! It's a shame you're away as closer to time the tickets sometimes come down a bit especially on the forums where there is a secure ticket exchange for people who have bought a ticket and then can't go after all.

My husband was watching that yesterday - he had it on so loud!! Can't say it did it for me - too long ago - but they did look like they were having fun and his voice is still good.  Is Jeff Lynne the only original one left? I thought the guy on the keys looked like he might be old enough but wasn't sure.

1 a.m. is my bedtime usually. I can function ok on five hours sleep but even that is broken sleep - waking up every forty minutes or so. It's such a nuisance! I often lay there from around 4.30 waiting for the alarm to go off at 6.15 as then I feel that it's ok to get up. Anyone else wake up and lay there willing the clock to say that it's almost morning only to find that you've only been asleep for forty minutes?

I'm still up.

I like to read a bit when I go to bed, it just helps me to switch off from all the things going on in my head.

I will then sleep for a couple of hours, wake up, need a pee toss & turn a bit, drop off again - by then it is usually 4 - 5 am & the darling seagulls start squarking.   bless them.

Do you have a spare room he or you could decamp too? That's what we've always done if one is poorly especially with the dreaded cough which makes for very poor sleeping.

We have 2 spare rooms but are unlikely to de-camp - both beds have stuff on them, i.e. spare sheets, blankets, clothing for charity shop  ::) - easier to toss and turn  :D

I go to bed as late as possible because I tend to only sleep for around five hours - I wake up lots of times during the five hours though - and if I go to bed at 11 then I am awake from 4 which seems too early to begin the day. If I go to bed at 1 then I am ready to get up at 6 which seems a much more reasonable time.

Have you tried anything to help you sleep better, Menomale?  For a few months now, I've kept a bottle of magnesium spray (got it on Amazon) by my bedside and been using some first of all to help get me so sleep in the first place and then to help me get back to sleep if I wake up.  I don't know if it's coincidence but since then I've been sleeping more soundly, been waking more refreshed and have definitely had more energy during the day.  Like you, I was getting pretty desperate for more sleep and this seems to have made a difference.   That and not allowing myself to start thinking anxious thoughts late at night (last night's success story!)   :)

I'm much better now that I am back on HRT as the night sweats have almost disappeared. I find that as long as I get five hours sleep (albeit waking up every forty/fifty minutes) then I can function. The earlier I went to bed the worse it was. I've never been a good sleeper. I do get to sleep quickly for which I'm grateful!

Well... it was helping with sleep in as much as I don't wake up in a horrible wet mess all of the time but over the past two days the flushes have been coming back so I'm not sure what's going on. I have a feeling I need a 75 and not a 50 dose but I don't think that I'll be prescribed that at my age. I was going to post on my HRT thread.

Well I'm here tonight! Bubbly tummy keeping me awake.

Sounds like Taz had a good night!

I live within stumbling reach of the local pub, though home is uphill! Sadly, alcohol and I do not get on. I seem to miss out the nice affects and go straight for the hangover. DH says I'm a cheap date, which is why he married me! Cheek! I can drink a small amount of white wine or weaker beer, but become rather silly very quickly apparently. So if I want to preserve my dignity, it's sparkling water all the way! A waste of having a pub nearby....... :(

I only have one glass because I'm driving. If I lived within stumbling distance of a pub it might be different!  ;D  I love the social aspect of it. I always have done. It's not in my upbringing though as my mum and dad never went to the pub.

Yawning is a reflex action when the lungs are short of air.  Dogs yawn when they feel threatened.  Human babies yawn when tired, they kind of screw up their little faces  :-* ……..

Well I was out for the count before midnight but a massive pesky adrenaline surge swept in just after two and still wide awake. After tossing and turning for over an hour, got up, made toast and tea and have been playing online solitaire with the laptop light turned down to it's lowest in the hope that tiredness will take me. Beginning to flag so hopefully I'll be off soon. Doesn't bode well for my planned 6am start today!! >:(

Hope you managed to get some sleep eventually Elizabethrose.
6am start - crikey the only time I want to get up that early is to catch a flight to go on holiday, like 2 years ago. Went to bed at 10pm, up at 2am. Gatwick at 4.30, flight out at 7am, in the bar at 11am  ;D ;D

Thanks Cazikins, it's a big fat pain in the neck!!

Same thing happened last night. I've stupidly reduced back my Vagifem which seems to have been helping keep the flushes at bay (yep I know others will dispute this but docs recognise this is probably the case given my super reactivity to hormone change). Anyway after two nights from hell I'm going back to Vagifem every other night!! I'm going to give cocoa a try tonight too or a big fat mallet!  Hope your cold has improved x
Title: Re: Who is still up?
Post by: Cazikins on March 08, 2017, 08:57:14 PM
Stick to cocoa or horlicks ER, but then it might keep you running to the loo all night.  ;D

Cold is still very much with me although I don't have the aches quite so bad today. Just need to get my sense of smell & taste back.

Loads of bugs around at the mo, every second person I speak to has it. Loss of smell and taste is common with colds, both usually return though. Hot toddies will do the trick, or you'll be too sloshed to care if they don't!  ;) x

My eternity ring was cutting off my circulation and it woke me up.  I couldn't get it off so I was hunting in the semi dark for some E45 cream to help get it off.  I did get it off but it hurt.  Then I took an hour to get back to sleep.  I can't get the ring back on yet, it is one of the fingers that has osteoarthritis in the knuckle so said ring is in its box for now.  The other hand is not affected, how odd is that?

It's 1.15am and sleep just won't come.  It's because I'm worried about hubby and his gout, which is giving him a bad time at the moment.  He's seen the Dr about it and has another appointment coming up.  I've got tomorrow's organ-playing and I'm really hoping I can get to sleep soon.  Meanwhile I'll read a bit and hope that sleep comes soon, with a quiet mind and no worries.
Title: Re: Who is still up?

Hi Analee - my hubby is on the way to having his gout controlled.  Thanks for asking.  He's got a pre-Alopurinol appointment coming up fairly soon.  Until then, he's up and down, having waves of pain which he hits on the head with anti-inflammatories, before they come back again.  Nothing severe, but enough to rather wreck his life at the moment and mine through worrying.  I just hope I can put this out of my mind tonight and catch up on last night's missed sleep.  Zzzzz.......
Title: Re: Who is still up?
Post by: dulciana on September 17, 2017, 02:22:08 PM
He's taking the AA's with caution, Analee, until he goes on to Alopurinol next month.  He's been told he's got to clear this current bout and that's what he's having to take the AA's for, as it's obviously painful.  He's read about the dangers of them and is only taking them when absolutely necessary, supplementing them with Devil's Claw.

Been awake most of the night!
Watched a film until 11.30, very rare for me, usually asleep by 10.
OH come to bed just as I'm nodding off, been wide awake since!
Just lie here thinking, then the intrusive thoughts come, then the frustration of not sleeping.
Then son gets up for work at 5.30 after snoozing clock for 30mins.
Got to get up in a hour and then a full day at work!
Fed up doesn't even come into it.
Oh and OH snoring!
Sorry for the rant

I'm still up.
Well, just got into bed, while OH is putting up one of those net curtain blinds up
on the back extension doorway, to stop all the wasps coming in.
We have one every year, but this year couldn't get one from anywhere, so he had to order from
Amazon.
They're great for that, they're made by JML, they've got magnets in the middle where they meet so you can
easily walk through and it just snaps shut behind you.
Just hope he's not going to call me down and ask for help. >:(

I'm up, although I had been asleep for a couple of hours.   I woke up feeling a little bit colded, a little bit uncomfortable and a lot sad at having had to give up a musical activity that meant a huge amount to me, because of other pressing commitments.    :'(   I was playing for a community choir - great people, super music and now, wonderful concert memories.  I can't quite describe the feeling of exhilaration that I got from playing (piano, not organ) surrounded by their sound.  I just loved doing that. It gave me a sort-of feeling of completeness.  I'm just sad and missing it/them already.  Ju Ju, if you're reading this and you still sing with your choir, do you know what I mean?   I'm sure you will do.  Oh dear, my Dad comes into the equation, I'm afraid, so do my studies (yes), both of which are extra challenging at this time of life while I'm still working too.  I've just drowned my sorrows in a cup of hot, sweet tea.  Made me feel a little better.   :-\
I'm listening to "The Carnival Is Over" (Seekers, 60's) at the moment.  It's just how I'm feeling.   :'(
Now I'd better go back to bed and see if I can get to sleep.....

Morning dulciana hope you slept ok it's no fun when your minds active like that and such a shame you've had to stop doing something that obviously makes you feel valued plus you enjoy, you know the answer to that one Get back out there lol don't let your talents wither, there's always someone who can make good use of them.
Sometimes we have to “make” that time for the things that make life worth getting up in the morning so if I was you I'd have a rethink and maybe commit to less but still commit to something, you can't go through the rest of your life feeling incomplete, you'll work it out I'm sure.good luck xx

I don't think it matters if your still up late as long as you get sufficient sleep to function the next day because the body will,at some stage ,catch up.
Now we are older we don't seem to need as much sleep my husband is worse now than when younger,he can go and work 12/14 hour shift after 4 or 5 hours sleep.I can sleep now for 7 or 8 hours and still be yawning in the mornings, before hrt I was lucky if I was sleeping a full two hours I was so drained with it so I'd say don't get stressed out worrying about it I'm sure your body will play catch up then it'll settle down again. you've just woke me up! He's gone off that quick.. how I don't know, he just switches off,

Thanks Jeaniewigs, think I will have to look into mattress toppers. I am used to a flatter mattress, and one that I don't sink into so much. I think this one would be fine for those who sleep on their back, but a killer for side sleepers. Finally got to sleep with a pillow between my knees, which is fine until you want to turn over! I might look into the sofa support thing too, thanks for that idea. What a resourceful person you are!

Jillydoll, the new bed is fine thanks, it was just that first night. I'm a real wimp about sleeping in strange rooms, beds etc!
You'll sleep better after that cottage pie, real comfort food!

Thanx Joaniepat.
Hope so anyway, I'm feeling tired now....don't know where all the energy has
come from today, must be the Sandrena... :)

Glad your beds ok, I'm the same with a new bed though, takes me a couple nights to get used to it, when we had ours about 4 years ago, I was scared to turn over in case I fell out, it was so high compared to the last one.....lol.  ::)

Sleep well,

Jd xx

Joaniepat, you must think I'm mad!  I've just read back, you've had your new mattress now a couple months!  ;D ;D
Sorry, I'd read it earlier but didn't look at the date.......see what lack of sleep does to you!   ;D ;D

Not to worry jd!! I've got one of those very high beds now, perhaps that was what put me off it the first night, scared I would probably break a hip if I fell out  ::)

You could be right about the Sandrena giving extra energy. Since switching to that from Oestrogel I seem to have a bit more get up and go. Hope it lasts!

Sleep well,

Still awake here. Worrying about getting my blood test results on Friday, and wondering when the bruise on my arm will go away! (Bruise is from getting blood drawn on Monday. My veins don't play nice when it comes to getting blood drawn.)  :'(

Don't those type of bruises last a long time?? Hope your results are good. I've not even thought of going to bed yet but will try to get sleepy soon as the alarm is set for 6.

I wish a peaceful night's sleep for everyone.

Yeah they do last ages! The nurse had to poke around with the needle in my arm to get it right. I have been yawning but not sleepy at all. Might as well get the other halfs lunch done then think about sleep.

Have a good night and a good sleep. 8)

This info may be of value ladies it certainly works for me.
Proteins from the food we eat are the building blocks of tryptophan which is why the best bedtime snack is one that contains both a carbohydrate and protein such as toast and peanut butter.cereal with milk.or cheese and crackers.out of them all is say the safest bet and one that def works for me is the peanut butter on toast or on crackers. It really improved my sleep quality.
Melatonin is a naturally occurring hormone that can help regulate sleeplessness.give it a try ladies I highly recommend.
Another good tip for you is write down on a piece of paper or a little notebook each night three things to be grateful for today
1) ask yourself what have you done today to make someone else happy could be as simple as saying hello smiling at a stranger or holding a door open.
2)ask yourself what has someone done today to make you happy.maybe partner or child brought you a cuppa or told you they loved you.
3)what have YOU learned today.could be something you've read could be something someone told you could be from watching a tv programme.
Make sure you write it down every single night b4 going to sleep. this is based on science or positive psychology.Studies found that after a week of doing this every single night depression levels actually lowered.give it a shot it can only help I know it helps me.DD😘

Well that's refreshing to hear because it's not a subject to be flippant about when so many ladies are struggling is it.if teacakes work for you then all's well and good don't know if I'd class that as a protein and carbohydrate though would you.DD

We have cereal and milk some nights before bed,

But now I'm more convinced.

Yeah you too.
My son used to say that I'd probably sleep better if I'd have something to eat before bed. Especially if, like me, you don't have much during the day, he'd say there's nothing to keep you going throughout the night, it's a long time through the night, and you're probably waking up so much because your body's hungry, even if You don't feel hungry.
He does know a lot about stuff like that, he used to be a body builder, but couldn't keep it up because he just couldn't eat all the stuff like they eat, and boy, do they eat a lot!
Working a three shift pattern didn't help. So he gave it up, but still eats healthy.
So yeah, peanut butter on crackers is one of our/his things.......

I have gradually got later and later going to bed to stop the early waking. I've never been good at sleep but now go to bed at 1 and wake up (finally after lots of half-wakings) at 6. I found if I went to bed at 11 I woke up at 4. Five hours seems to be my level.

It can take a while can't it to get used to a new anti depressant Mabel. I hope you can relax your mind soon and fall back to sleep.

I was about at 2.30 ish on here but I couldn't find anyone. I think I went to bed around 3.15 having taken my melatonin.  Must start taking it regularly again.  When I am badly depressed sleep alludes me totally and then when I do sleep I cant wake up.

All my other symptoms have gone thanks to my hrt but I am struggling with depression and lack of motivation - that doesnt seem to be shifting at all.

Good morning roseneath.sorry to hear about your sleeping pattern and cramps.
If you try some "better you magnesium flakes" from Holland and Barrett that'll knock this on the head for you.
Just make up a basin of warm water and add a cup of flakes to dissolve then plop your feet in for 20mins.your skin will absorb the magnesium it's a much kinder way to take it and gets straight in there transdermal like the hrt gel.Do it before bed and you'll feel a huge difference in your muscles and your sleeping.good luck DD😘

Ladybt28..my sleeping pattern changed dramatically 7 years ago I went from 1030 bed up 630 to total insomnia then now asleep never earlier than 3am...I've been on here many times asking if it was perimenopause related as I started the other symptoms at the same time which I now know are mainly all peri related.
I've tried it all literally in 7 years and for the last month I've depressingly had to employ someone to work 745am til 10am so I can get up at 9am ( usual drop off to sleep around 4am so at least I can get 5 houts) it's made me even more depressed and low as I feel such a failure getting up so late especially when my few friends sailed through their menopause so just think I'm lazy.
right now or last 6 weeks I can barely move my neck at all I've severe pain in neck shoulders and sternum so much when it first happened I went to a and e...ecg was OK but I'm referred to have angiogram with dye to check for heart disease and or angina...it's so crap this isn't it...lack of sleep especially being all alone til 4am makes thoughts and worry 100 times worse anyway..😣😣

sorry forgot to ask what dose of melatonin you used when it worked I've been trialling 0.5mg 4 hours before bed been 3 months now and not helped .😏
Title: Re: Who is still up?
Post by: Ladybt28 on February 12, 2019, 12:17:50 AM
I have 1 mg tablets and have been known to take up to 3, 4 hours before bed when I am really bad.  I know .5 would be too low.  If you read any web pages about doses you should start at 2mg +
They come in 1mg/3mg and 5mg and 10mg I think as far as I know.  3mg in one go is not really high at all.  Works a treat for me because I don't get that awful hung over feeling in the morning and with 1mg I can vary what I take.  I wouldn't be afraid to take 5mg if I needed it.

Its really interesting peroxideblader since we posted between us before I have been given testosterone and now with my hrt levelled out I am sleeping much better. Its taken 7 months though to stop the manic head racing and total insomnia. I still can't wake in the morning early - never before 10 and as you can see I am still up but I am tired now and want my bed - no more manic insomnia until 4-5 in the morning - unless of course I get really upset by something - but that is life, we sometimes get things stuck in our heads  - but it was constant before - all the time month after month.  I can still stay up but when I put my head down I can now sleep and I don't have to take melatonin to ensure I do sleep.

Just up your dose to 2mg and see what happens. Melatonin is a natural substance to the body - nothing bad can happen to you.  You need your sleep - meno symptoms and pain are made a million times worse by lack of sleep.

You are not lazy and bad sleep patterns have been made a million times worse by meno - be kind to yourself peroxideblader - do what you need to do to make yourself feel better - I gave up feeling guilty - that I wasnt like "other people" - so what?  They can judge all they want but if it happens to them well.....they wont be judging then!
Post and tell me how you get on  :)

I`ve always been a pretty rubbish sleeper but over the past year it`s got worse. I go to sleep till 2 or 3 am then just can`t switch my head off however hard I try. Sometimes that`s the end of sleep for the night. Strangely I seem to function ok the next day (do feel tired but it doesn`t stop me getting up or functioning normally) although I`m sure it`s not doing my body much good. Have tried nytol etc but don`t really want to go down the route of clinical sleeping tablets.  Just hanging on in there!  :o

Hi Dancing Queen,
I have been given clinical sleeping tablets but can't function the next day, so wont take them.  I dont like nytol either to be honest.  Have tried loads.
Like I say the only 2 things which have worked and let me get up the next day like I have had normal sleep is Melatonin and/or valarian tablets. I found sometimes when I was really bad the valarian were not strong enough but the melatonin because they come in different strengths would do the job. Both are natural and not clinical.

Why not give them a try if you are struggling?
