Title: Anyone else....supergassy...??
Post by: 20032003 on July 06, 2015, 06:30:37 AM
The last couple of months my periods seem to be more their usual self again. I also seem to have more PMS symptoms (heavy boobs, bloating, skin break outs, etc) again. And I am SO gassy (and stinky)... This is pretty common in peri though, isn't it?

Oh, yes... If there was a way to hook me up, we could probably power the whole house... ;)

Yep! So is hubby. Maybe we should start a gas band. Do you think it would catch on?  ;D

I should definitely start taking probiotics again. I run out, and then I forget to buy...

I seem to get supergassy the closer I get to my period (about a week away now)....

I have just watched my daughter make her lunch. A big bowl of rice with a large can of mixed beans in spicy sauce.

If I ate any more than a spoonful I would be able to float  :o

Same here ladies - it's surprising what triggers it these days. I used to be able to eat anything - nowadays everything seems to make me jet-propelled!

I went through a period of toxic wind. Very unpleasant and socially unacceptable! I looked up FODMAPS and cut out a load of foods as I was so desperate. The toxic fumes disappeared and I have been able to reintroduce some of the foods. I avoid cauliflower, broccoli and limit pulses. Hope this helps.

I think at least part of my problem is WHEN I eat. My appetite is pretty small during the day, but from dinnertime and onwards I crave EVERYTHING! So between 5 and 10 pm I do a big chunk of my eating. Probably not the best...?

Me too. I avoid bread, unless it's gluten free.  Also, the less I eat the less I f***!!

I have started cutting out lactose as much I can. It seems to help me a bit.

Haha, this too is affecting me in peri.  When the bloat sets in, I know what is set to follow...

Are you cutting out all dairy or just milk?

I'm using lactosefree products instead of regular cream, milk, sour cream etc. I eat sorbet instead of icecream.

ok, that's fine for me as I like rice milk.  But what about things like Flora, butter, cheese, yoghurt?  Do you substitute for them too?

Are there substitutes  :-\

I find that when I sit around for a long while i.e. when we visit relatives who don't go for walks, my gut bloats badly leading to requiring a warm bath in order to relax ……..  :-X

I probably should. Milkfree margarine is widely available. Hard cheeses contain no lactose so they are ok. Yoghurt I don't eat that often, but I can find lactosefree yoghurt too. I'm kn Sweden but I suppose you can find that kn most places? If you don't go completely milkfree, but just want to stay away frlm lactose, it's quite easy....

I sound like a machine gun most of the time! I'm definitely the best 'farter' in my house!
I've tried changing my diet but it always comes back with a vengeance, I just can't put my finger on the cause. Although it is a side effect of HRT, I get it just as bad on the days I don't use my utrogestan as on the days I do. Could definitely do with a release valve as it can often be uncomfortable xXx

I have to eat dairy/lactose free due to intolerance. Not much difference TBH. Can still end up jet propelled.

Shellb - I'm not on HRT so things might be different but I have definitely noticed an improvement in the last few weeks since I've been taking a probiotic.  I started taking it after a bout of either an IBS flare up or a tummy bug (DD had a sickness bug around the same time).  It seems to have regulated things for me which is a first!  And I'm not as gassy either, which is another first!!  I've probably just jinxed it now and I'll be back to gaseous maximus next week!  ;D

Can you name the probiotic please?  I'll try anything, though it's worrying that CG avoids gluten and lactose but still has problems  :(

Has anyone actually used symprove. It's a drink ? And if so how much do you need and what is the average cost ?

It is a 500ml bottle which is 8 days worth at just over £21 so quite expensive.

Can I join your Super Gassy Club please. I really don't know what has happened to my bowels lately, it's as if I have eaten a Christmas dinner every day......
