Title: Strictly 2014 Season
Post by: bramble on September 11, 2014, 04:38:57 PM
Well here we are again. Just about the start of the new Strictly season. Sequins at the ready!
Quite a diverse bunch of characters. There is the usual eye candy, plump girl, old bloke etc etc. Will be interesting to see how they all knuckle down.

Yes they did better than I expected & so did some of the dancers.  :)

I think Claudia Winkleman has been fantastic over the last two evenings, a natural comic. Some of the dancers looked really promising and there were some who looked a bit 'oooooh no'. Funnily enough I had an appointment in Harley Street this week and as I came out and was making my way to the tube I saw Greg Wallace coming towards me carrying a hold-all, with a big smile on his face. I said 'Good luck on Strictly' and he said 'Thank you Darling'. On the strength of his performance last night, I think he needs it, harsh but fair :-\

Oh dear yes, he plodded his way through it. Scott was pretty awful too.

Favourite was Frankie. But Jake, Pixie, Mark & Caroline were pretty good too.Alison Hammond wasn't too bad, but dance suited her. Be interesting to see how she manages with something like an American Smooth.

Yes Frankie was really good, she looked a little bit Audrey Hepburn-ish....for week one there were some really good dancers. I miss Vincent and Flavia , I went to see their live tango show in the West End last year, they were amazing.

They are absolutely superb, even hubby who can't dance to save himself, appreciates how good Vincent is.

Love Claudia, I don't really like Tess and I still think a man and a woman would have been a better combination.

Did anyone notice her shouting affecting her mike? or maybe it is my TV?

Very good start, love it!  :) (http://:))

Booked to see Brendan's show in January. Been before, it was fantastic!
Also seen Pasha's show and Anton & Erin
- addicted? me? yep!  ;D (http://;D)

I think Anton would have been good but he must have wanted to remain as a performer. I'm not sure how much I like Claudia and Tess together. They will give us a good show each week but for me there is something missing and I don't mean Bruce. I think Claudia is the sidekick in the way Tess was to Bruce but I'm not sure Tess is a strong enough personality to lead it. Just my two pennyworth for what it is worth.

It's always like this at the beginning of a new series. Votes appear to be based on personality's popularity rather than dancing ability. But the right ones will win through in the end.

Jake was a real surprise, I thought he would be one of the 'also-rans'. That other guy fom Eastenders who danced with Natalie a few years ago was really good too x x

Mat di angelis (sp)
Title: Re: Strictly 2014 Season

No, the one I was thinking of was Scott Maslen, he paid Jack Branning in Eastenders and was very good on Strictly.

Matt di Angelo was good too - he danced with Flavia.

Donny Osmond! Really? What was that about? Did not enhance the programme one little bit. As for judges "performing" each week, not too keen on that either. Apart from that still liking same dancers.

I love the that, after watching Strictly avidly since it started, my daughter and I now spot the same errors the judges do!  And we listen to music in the car with an 'internal choreographer' working out which dance would be most appropriate!  Love it!!  ;D
Title: Re: Strictly 2014 Season
Post by: Joyce on October 13, 2014, 01:44:59 PM
That made me laugh Scampi. I'm the same. Especially Simon Webbe's rhumba. I sat there and said not enough hip action for a rhumba. Craig makes good sense when he critiques dances. Judy Murray's hand placement. Tim's lack of actual dance moves. Got them all. I'd have managed better than "Yeah baby" Donny Osmond.  ;D
Title: Re: Strictly 2014 Season

…….. who got dreadful press today  ::) and his non-PC comment  >:(

However - I think Judy Murray may well improve a little …….. for a start she's not used to wearing high heels  :o so being able to walk across the floor should be 2 points  ;)

Would like to see Jake or Pasha win ………

Enjoy your evening!

Neither should have been in bottom two. Scott must be clinging on by the skin of his teeth. Judy doesn't seem to take herself too seriously, though she did look more relaxed last night, her dance was very basic. Alison has oodles of personality, but think her flat feet are going to stop her going much further.

But this happens every year, some of the hopefuls get voted off before the truly dire ones.

Fear it may be Jake on the ropes tonight unless the Eastenders vote can help him.

Did anyone think that Tess Daly and Zoe Ball look alike stood together ? - i did.

Find it very annoying when they keep on about 'tomorrow night' on 'Saturday night' when we all know it is filmed on the Saturday - why can't they just say so !

There is a way of finding out the result ahead of tonight - someone used to post how to - i can't remember what it was though.

I'm glad Judy did her best dance for her final night.  She went out with her head held high and we have all got to know Judy Murray the woman a little bit better.  Not half as cold and hard as she seemed on the tennis circuit.

Steve & Sunetra I think will be in bottom two.

Simon is a dark horse. Initially thought he wouldn't get this far. He may win it yet if he keeps going like this.

Simon was good tonight but I can't take to him for some reason.
I like Jake and Pixie the most.  I agree with babyjane though, Mark  is the one who has improved the most.

Agree - right decision.  We are getting down to the 'good' dancers now - it's going to the Wire again this year  :bounce:  …… I keep changing my mind as to who I would like to win  ;D and I would love to see the Judges doing something for Children in Need next year - Craig and Darcy, Bruno with Len?
Title: Re: Strictly 2014 Season
Post by: Joyce on November 23, 2014, 10:44:56 PM
Barry Manilow's face was so tight he could barely open his mouth to sing. I feel all these stars who resort to so much work being done on their faces, end up looking like caricatures of themselves. I'm sure he's spent a fortune on trying to retain his youthful looks, but why not grow old gracefully. A few lines & wrinkles give your face character. That's my excuse anyway.  ;D
Think Sunetra may be the next to go.

Vanessa Feltz mentioned on her Radio 2 show yesterday morning that she had been to a Strictly 2013 reunion dinner the night before and all the celebrities from 2013 were there with their professional partners and she mentioned that Rachel Riley and Pasha were now a couple. I remember it was reported that she left her husband last year just after she had appeared in Strictly. There have been quite a few partnerships, isn't Flavia engaged to one of her celebrity partners....I will look it up now   :)

Yes, Jimi Mistry!

Sunetra will go this week I think

its getting tough now, they are all of a high standard

I do think Mark has progressed the most since the start, but I don't think he will win

Frankie and Kevin are great, but then I do like Jake and then there's Simon doing very well and .....oh I don't know  :-\ (http://:-\)  all the makings of a great few weeks though  :parti: (http://:parti:)

 ;D   no Babyjane

I watch Eastenders and did wonder when Jake Wood joined Strictly if he was doing it for a reason -( well i suppose they all are really )- Eastenders is a well paid job for an actor. i always think Adam Woodyatt has been lucky.

Do you watch it Babyjane ?

Nope.  It's always good to increase 1's profile and Jake seems to be good at dancing ……. it's how they manage the learning and rehearsals when they are in full-time work! and we've never seen any one run off stage screaming 'can't do it, can't do it' ………

SO shocked that Pixie has gone...
It was their first dance off.

Thought that Len was a bit strict telling them off like that with their lifts in the first dance! Maybe that clouded his judgement and he wanted to prove a point to Trent about his comment  :-X   ...

I would like to see the three most improved contestants in the final now, rather than ones who have been good from the start and not changed much.  That would make it a dance contest rather than a popularity one.

Mark and Simon came to the competition not having danced before and have worked very hard and their pro partners have got the best out of them.  Caroline has also improved a lot. Frankie peaked a while ago and Jake doesn't appeal to me.

In the final I would now like to see Caroline, Simon and Mark with Caroline the winner.

Title: Re: Strictly 2014 Season

I agreed with last night's result - I didn't think Pixie did very well at all (although I may have been coloured by the fact I simply don't like cha-cha-cha, samba and salsa because they all just look like a mess!).  But she just didn't seem as precise and polished as she had been in previous weeks - Simon was, to my mind, the better of the two.

I didn't rate Caroline's Argentine tango either (don't care what the judges thought!) - it was severely lacking somewhere, to my eyes.  But, I just can't take to her, so maybe I see flaws that aren't there!

Anyway, I'd like Mark or Simon to win!

I think Len made the right decision again.  Jake is good, but he has had the same strengths and weaknesses since the start, and has not been consistent.  Mark has improved week on week since he found his 'dancing feet', and has worked really hard on his weaknesses - he deserved to go through.

Still can't get excited about Caroline - no idea why!  So, I want anyone by Caroline to win!!

Final 3 were superb! Glad Caroline won though. Eldest GD was so excited watching first half, kept doing her versions in front of the TV!  ;D

Loved watching as usual but now feel let down - read that Caroline has had 3 years professional training in the past.

If Simon can do it from nothing can't the programme makers trust that to happen each year with someone else - isn't that what the programme is about or is it now all about the ratings  versus the other channel   :(

I must be weird as I seem to be the only one who hates this programme (and all others like it)?  Have only ever watched about 15 mins of the show ever and found in silly and boring.  Just embarrassment and egos.  What am I not getting? ???

P.S. The girl who won, who the heck is she?  Have never heard of her.

Rosebud - I'me with you.
Hate, loathe and detest it.

It doesn't matter who the 'celebrities' are  :-\ …… it's the fact that they stood up there, managed to walk across the floor in those heels  :o and managed to engage brain to feet each week  ;)

I had dance training until I was 18 but I wouldn't be able to do all that …… each dance is different and the Professionals push their partners further than I would even consider [I'm still learning to totter on those heels  ;D]

I feel the same about 'soaps'.  I have enough 'soap' from my Mum - I could write a book/story line that would keep the public enthralled for years  ::)

Wonder how many sore heads there are this morning  :drunklaf:

Never watched it either nor any other reality TV, truly embarrassing.

Rosebud and Limpy i think i might be joining you next year - the enjoyment is fast going for me. I do appreciate how talented and hardworking the professional dance teachers are though. Wouldn't have taken much to wish Ola a speedy recovery either somewhere in the programme but she wasn't mentioned - it's not all about glitter and hype.

I agree. Olga's situation hasn't been mentioned  :-\

I think those Professionals who have been in the Show for a few years have really improved - the psychology that goes with making a dance suitable for the Cele they are partnered with never fails to amaze me.  I think that Christina excelled this year!

I have bought OH a Kristina Rihanoff calendar for Christmas as a 'stocking filler'  ::)

I am so glad Mark and Simon were in the final, the result of weeks of hard work from them and their pros. Caroline had a head start but she still worked hard and improved.

I do wonder why Ola's injury wasn't mentioned, unless she and James asked them not to. Or are the programme producers annoyed with her for joining in with The Jump, which was a silly decision for a professional dancer to do if it compromises her future as a dancer.

I think you are right Babyjane I read that the beeb weren't impressed as she was under contract to them for the whole of the series but then started practicing for a programme on a rival channel while she was still under contract to them. They weren't impressed that she was injured and couldn't fulfill her contractual obligations apparently.

I doubt she is planning on returning next year and think this is why she went off & did something else. I read somewhere that she was thinking of finishing with Strictly this year as she & James want kids. So maybe she wanted to challenge herself with something new before that.

Not sure I would risk life and limb if I depended on my legs to make a living.
