Title: POP Pills
Post by: robotwars on September 06, 2014, 05:17:59 PM
Hi! Can I just ask a quick question, my doctor suggested taking a mini pill to control periods better, but what I wondered was can you take any form off HRT alongside this? I know if you have a mirena coil you can have the gel etc but can you also do this with the mini pill

Yes you can take HRT with it but the progestogen dose is not usually sufficient to oppose the dose of oestrogen in HRT ie to prevent the womb lining thickening, unless it is a really low dose of oestrogen. Therefore if you take HRT along with the mini pill it will need to be a combined HRT. If you have the Mirena then this will do both - ie control your bleeding and prevent any build up due to oestrogen part of HRT.
