Title: What are your weirdest menopause symptoms?
Post by: Tabbycat on August 19, 2013, 06:23:39 PM
Since joining this lovely forum I've been reminded of some of the stranger symptoms (if that's the right word) of the meno that I've suffered over the last few years. Not the ones we're all told about - the hot flushes, the mood swings, the weight gain, the irregular periods - but some downright weird things that seem to have absolutely nothing to do with fluctuating hormones.

A few of mine: heartburn - always at night and worse when lying on my right side (which is the side I prefer to fall asleep on). It wasn't something I'd suffered from much in the past but suddenly there it was, every night for months, no matter what or when I ate.

Tailbone pain: out of nowhere, an excruciating pain in the coccyx! Sitting down and getting up made me wince, many yoga poses became impossible and I couldn't sprawl on the floor anymore. I spent hours researching this but found nothing useful. Only just recently reading experiences on this forum made me realise it's yet another bizarre meno symptom.

Tickly cough. This was the one that nearly drove me insane. It only happened when I was in bed at night and always, ALWAYS, just as I was falling asleep. I even went to the doctor about it but once she found out I was a smoker (albeit a light one - no more than five a day) all she wanted to do was send me for a chest x-ray. My chest was (and still is) as clear as a bell, I never got out of breath, even when exercising, and never coughed once during the day. I politely declined the x-ray and went on to try probably every cough medicine Boots sells, to no avail. But I had so many nights of disturbed sleep, I thought I'd go mad.

All of these symptoms have thankfully gone but currently I have a tense right leg. Yep, from my foot to my hip joint, my right leg tenses up for no reason - usually when I'm sitting on the sofa watching TV or at the computer (it's bothering me now, in fact). And it doesn't matter whether I'm feeling stressed from a stupid day at work, or relaxed after a couple of glasses of wine, it will not let up and it's impossible to get comfortable. I also have a pain from my right shoulder down between my shoulder blades. It feels like a pulled muscle but I've had it for months and it's not changed.

So, what's your weirdest meno symptom(s)?

Hello Tabbycat.
I'm not sure if this qualifies as weird but every time I wake up, be it in the morning or from the occasional lovely nap I find I am instantly in a foul, stinking, murderous mood. Why?, I've been asleep, relaxed, not being bothered by anyone and yet I'm furious the minute I open my eyes, then it's ages before I feel even slightly better.  Oh the joys.

Hi Tabbycat -

Think these symptoms could possibly fall into the weird category, only occurred since meno:

- a bit gross this - large, painful spots on the INSIDE of my nose which sometimes make the tip of my nose very red and swollen (attractive, not).

- a strange tingling, painful, nerve type sensation on face running down sinus areas that makes me screw up my nose - also same sensation across front of chest, below neck (mainly happens on progesterone section of HRT) which makes me hunch up shoulders. A good look, huh?  [Clinic said it could be due to fact that drop in estrogen can trigger overactive sympathetic nervous system symptoms.]  I recall one my very first meno symptoms was a similar creeping COLD sensation across my chest.

- Not so weird but Restless Leg Syndrome - know that I drive OH mad every evening on the sofa with my constant moving legs.

Great fun isn't it, all this hormonal cr@p ...

Oh good topic!  I had itchyness across my back over the bra line - but I haven't worn one for  years. DH had to scratch gently to ease symptoms.  They came on every evening after my bath and 20 mins after taking my medication.

Then there's the itchy insteps - as soon as I step into the bath.  Not every night now but when I was peri-meno ..........  ???

Restless leg syndrome - a real nuisance.  Eating lots of bananas helped me, stopped symptoms COMPLETELY - I ate 2/5 every day from 1998 until 2 years ago.  Now I take Nurofen if symptoms keep me awake.

Hiatus Hernia is a known condition for ladies of a 'certain age'  >:( so I take my meds an hour before I go to bed.  Any later and I get HEARTBURN <sigh> .........

Eating every 3 hours can stop the anger symptoms.  Keeps low blood sugar levels even.

Yep, this is the sort of weirdness I mean!

I've had itchy insteps too - randomly, not linked to doing anything.

Looks like restless legs is a common one, I'll give the bananas a go but I'm not sure I can eat more than one a day.

Another weird one I have is a painful right foot (basically, my whole right side is completely b**gered!). It's not sore when I touch it but when I walk barefoot on a hard surface, it feels like every bone in my foot is exposed. I have to wear thick soled shoes now, otherwise walking on tactile pavement is really painful.

Night-Owl, spots on the INSIDE of your nose? Ouch!

Keep 'em coming! :)

Inability to drink even the smallest amount of alcohol without it affecting me the next day :(   Not just weird but positively annoying as these days I could do with alcohol more than ever to help me to relax!!

Motorway driving!  I've never particularly liked motorways but since the meno kicked in, I've become absolutely phobic about driving on them.  A couple of years ago, I had a panic attack while driving along a completely empty bit of dual carriageway; and more recently, the realisation that the single carriageway I was driving along was becoming dual made me literally shake with fear, to the point where hubby had to take over the wheel.   I felt stupid, small and really guilty because hubby had already done a lot of the driving and was tired.  Anyone else experienced this sort of thing?

Driving is a big problem for me too. I used to love it and I also feel guilty as my hubby has to do 99% of the driving.
I feel spaced out and not safe at all. I have to do a 30 mile round trip three times a week to my mum's. I keep plugging away as I can't ask anyone to take me on such a regular basis.

Makes me feel useless.

Flatulence?  Had a bad week of hot flushes last week when period did not arrive and also suffered from a lot of wind!   ;D  I have the tickly throat too, but did not relate it to meno.  Bleary eyes.

Flatulence is a big problem for me as well.  And, if I am in a situation where I have to "hold it in" I then get a bloated and  painful tummy :(

Tickly throat/cough comes and goes

Driving: used to be absolutely fine but now there are certain routes I try to avoid.  Mind you I do think the roads have become a lot more dangerous and crowded and people are in too much of a hurry these days.

my weirdest meno symptom was the skin crawling, I was convinced I had caught something then after reading Dr Google I became obsessive about cleaning and personal care. I was sure that insects were living in my ears and under my skin this went on for some time until I read that this was normal for women of my age. I can laugh about it now but it was very traumatic at the time, the upside of this was my home was the cleanest it had been for years

I've got the coccyx pain.

Had the itching, stopped washing my skin with soap or shower gel, that seemed to cure that. Just really achy joints all the time.

The peeing really is a drag - if I wake in the night or early hours I ALWAYS have to go down to the loo, and I HAVE to go immediately before my 40 minute walk to work and am bustin by the time I get there!

Snoring, even if i lie on my side.

Yes to wind. And sometimes it seems to come from my vagina, even when all I'm doing is sitting or lying down (!!).

The forgetfulness is SO annoying - did I put water in the coffee machine?

I don't mind a lowered alcohol tolerance, saves me money!

I'm not getting hot flushes at the moment (touch wood), but I'd like my libido to come back!!

Oh, and a constantly blocked nose!

Did I mention forgetfulness? Did I put water in the coffee machine?

Oh Deep Joy... I can relate to nearly all of this... plus at the moment back pain and sciatica and all I did was turn over in bed, currently stinking of deep heat.... can't eat the spicy stuff I used to love, it all gives me heartburn, alcohol keeps me awake where it used to send me off to sleep lovely, used to love nuts by the handfull now they bung me up...

I reckon it's impossible to sort out the symptoms caused by menopause and just by getting older.. especially the wind part - I know quite a few men in their fifties who if you judged it by their flatulence would be diagnosed as being menopausal  :)

fiorinda - wind from the vagina is normally due to a lax vagina or prolapse and can be helped by daily pelvic floor exercises. It's not something to just ignore if it happens while just sitting or standing. Of course if it happens after lovemaking that's different.

Driving! I can do short trips to supermarket, but ask me to go further and I start panicking!  Hubby does long distance stuff. If I have to drive at night I panic too, even to local supermarket. Driving never used to bother me at all.

Itchy toes. Forever scratching on the carpet. Once it starts, it drives me scatty for hours.

Hot legs. They feel cool to touch, but feels like my blood is boiling under the skin. It's horrid.

Blimey, what a lot of weird stuff! I'm SO glad it's not just me. ;D None of these things I would have ever associated with the menopause, or even just getting old.

I think I can relate to most of it too. The driving - I still like it but I can't go fast any more, which is probably a good thing but makes me feel a bit pathetic on motorways. However, I have no choice cos OH can't drive (well, he can, he just isn't insured on my car cos he hates driving). He has a motorbike but I don't enjoy going out on this as much as I used to, which REALLY annoys me. It used to be a great stress reliever.

However, on a slightly more positive note: I was thinking earlier that we're the first generation of meno women who have the internet so we can share these experiences with others. That's got to be a good thing. :)

I have had so many weird things happen in the last few years I could go on for ever. I seemed to go from 52 year old with not much going on to someone pushing a switch and turning into a jabbering wreck. 3 years on I cope a bit better with all the madness but in the beginning i truly thought i was going off my head.

This forum made me realise that other women were going through similar experiences and was invaluable to me.

My feet feel cold but DH tells me they are warm  ::)

I can also relate to practically all of this.

And yes, the clumsiness, it's a real issue - in fact my OH often calls me "Big Foot".

I used to be a confident driver, however motorways bother me, I get so tense - juggernauts scare the life out of me - parking, I've lost my spatial awareness, used to be great at parking, now the hubcaps are scuffed - it's like I've lost my b@lls, well I guess I have as my last blood readings showed practically zero testosterone!

A bit off topic here, but now I absolutely can't stand talking on the phone for ages.  Most of the above I can put down to years of sleep deprivation, thanks to wretched sweats.  Thinning eyebrows but  hairy chin - more grumpy and witch like with each passing year!

Big foot yeh that's me, I have small feet but they do feel too big for me some days !
Any one miss wearing heels because of being clumsy? I have to wear much more as my mother would have said sensible shoes now, and if I get court shoes must be the ones with the ankle strap or I just wobble out of them even if they are not high !

I used to love heels but not no more. I can wear chunky ones but no stilettos.
The last time I wore them as i was at my sister's. I popped out into the garden and fell flat on my face. I split my lip and my eyebrow. Sad thing was I was sober. If I had had a drink then I might have bounced a bit.

Stilettos went in the bin.

High heels are very bad for your posture, regardless of your age.

I haven't worn them since my twenties, I'm 5ft 8' and I can't walk in them - I just look like a bad transvestite.  ;D

Yes Tabbycat, I gave up heels years ago, being tall I towered over everyone anyway  :) And driving, wish I'd bought that sports car back in the day as one would be wasted on me now, I hyperventilate over 50 mph!!! But food is my main one - used to love my grub and always looked forward to the next meal, nowadays I am not interested at all and just eat what I have to to give me energy to do other things.  :-X I would LOVE to really look forward to a meal. Keeps my weight down mind, don't need to think about dieting  ::)

I loved my heels. Not all the time but for dressed up occasions and the higher the better.
Not no more.
My BIL was behind me and I gave him such a fright. There was blood everywhere.

I actually don't like my sister's garden. The next family do I was at I had a glass of wine sitting on a table. I took a glug and a wasp stung inside my mouth.
I stay inside now....much safer.

Hi
Im new to the forum, so apologies if I am writing this in the wrong thread!
Im nearly 59 and havent had a period for the past 7 years, I thought by now imight have gone through most of the symptoms, and believe me I have had them all!! But just this past couple of months ive been feeling like ive been getting period like feelings, but the worst thing is my mood feelings. Ive been feeling very anxious and panicky, feeling like im going to go mad, feeling disoriented and like my heads full of pressure and I cant think straight. Its very frightening. Btw I dont normally feel like this, or havent for years, but its just suddenly started like a massive pmt.
Also cramp like pains just like period pains.
Thanks for any help :)

Sounds like the whole meno thing, Pam107. Sympathies. Do a search in the little box on any of those nasty feelings you mention, and you'll find lots of us have had same. Sometimes people have some really helpful tips for specific things - and sometimes it just makes you feel slightly better that you're not the only one...

Re weirdest symptoms - I get shame. I think its really weird. Sometimes things that happened long ago, and sometimes just things I've said to people over the day. I can get quite overwhelmed and send nutty apologetic texts which I'm sure makes people think I'm weirder than ever.

Driving, motorway fear, not being able to drink (just when I could REALLY do with a drink) - get those too. Only good thing is it makes me walk and cycle everywhere. Not that I can report having lost weight...

My weirdest symptom has been my face quite literally aches. A bit like getting a headache in my face!! I know its really odd, kids and hubby have had a good old laugh at my expense!!  The only thing that helps relieve it is to just lie down and try to relax the muscles in my jaw, not something i can do in the middle of the day when i'm busy or out and about.

Also having blurred vision at the moment which is making me feel really anxious, yet another symptom to add to the list  ???

Take care everyone, we're in it together.

Ringing in the ears
Flash backs of GUILT  :'(

Do you clench your teeth, that may well cause facial pain
Title: Re: What are your weirdest menopause symptoms?
Post by: Rowan on August 28, 2013, 04:03:33 PM
Oh CLKD you do make me laugh "Flash backs of Guilt" how on earth can that be? unless its waking from bad dreams.

No facial pain, just a slight  feeling of tension that fades quickly unconscious jaw clenching as you say, probably from all the stress I have had in the last few weeks.

Blood pressure and cortisol rise early morning just before you wake.

Also when I take ibuprofen for my back, the ringing in my ear increases, I took some earlier and ringing has increased.

Its probably got nothing to do with menopause, just the body getting older.

Just to go back to the topic of high heels - in March last year, I was walking down the road to the bus stop, wearing medium heels.  At five foot two, I usually wear heels of some description, but never very high.   (Don't want to look like a small person trying to be tall!)  Next thing I knew, I went over on my ankle.  It really hurt and although I managed to get to the bus stop, I had to crouch down on the ground because I thought I was going to faint.  Two weeks later, I had a lovely time hobbling around on our French holiday (I even learned the French for "sprained ankle", which I actually had the chance to say to someone!)  It was  "just" a sprain, but nearly a year and a half later, my left ankle is still weaker and slightly uncomfortable.  (Maybe I should go back to exercising it...)   Looking back, though, I can only put it down to "meno-wobble", because I was simply walking at the time.   Have I learned my lesson?  Well, I still usually wear low-to-medium heels (still being five foot two!) but I am more careful when I'm walking in them - and sometimes I even wear flats!

Flash backs can ruin a Life.  Guilt comes back in a sudden flash as I am dropping off to sleep.  Many things I have said that were hurtful or stupid; those last few days before my pets were pts ........ the awful things I have said to DH  :-\ - things that I have in the back of my mind all the while but which continue to haunt me ............

Yes - you mustn't beat yourself up CLKD. It hurts no-one but yourself. Life is one big learning curve and everyone makes mistakes. In my opinion there's a lot to be said for Emotional Compartmentalisation as a coping mechanism - if I didn't employ this technique I dread to think what kind of state my mental health would be in by now  xx

I know exactly what you mean CKLD. Rationally I know the things I've said and done are no worse than anyone else says and does - and probably no one else gives them much thought - but I can break out in a sweat over them (when I'm not sweating with a hot flush that is!) Especially at night when I'm tired. It is truly weird - if I hear of someone arrested on TV, it flashes into my mind maybe I committed a similar crime! Mad, and didn't happen before meno - in fact I prided myself on being a bit of a je ne regrette rien kinda girl - not in an abrasive way, but in a look forward type way. I'm learning to treat it a bit like the physical symptoms and the other emotional symptoms i.e this is just a feeling, a by-product and it will go away. Signed up for a bit of counselling too. And I will google  Emotional Compartmentalisation, Taz.

Sorry CLKD I thought you were telling me that my sometimes waking up with ringing in the ear etc. was due to flash back of guilt, its how I read  it. ::)

I don't get flash backs of guilt but I do get angry about stuff I have put up with and still do to a certain extent, but I don't verbalise it, I put in behind the wall in my mind, I suppose it creeps out sometimes, usually when I wake up suddenly in the night, its a pointless exercise as I just feel tired all the next day, Morwenna is right, the only person it hurts is yourself.

The ringing in my ear is due to my BPPV and first thing in the morning I have to be careful when waking up as turning over in the night can bring it on.

Quite, honeybun. Mind you, there is one city in the UK that I will NEVER visit again (and it's one that most folk love) and that is due to old guilt. Just hated my last visit there and decided I was not going to put myself through that again.  :-\ Weird old brain eh? I had my first psychologist appointment yesterday which went alright, it's an NHS referral so all free, so to speak. She's going to try me with CBT again but guided this time (it was all a bit self help on the last occasion). I'm a bit sceptical to be honest but will give it a go and go in with an open mind. She's very nice anyway so I think we will get on.

Sorry - you do get used to them. They tend to settle into a pattern - mine were/are every twenty minutes so if you begin to feel a bit sick or uneasy or tummy feels odd once you look at the time you can feel more relaxed thinking "Oh that's what it is". Doesn't make them any more comfy though! For me they are the worst symptom of meno.

My itch is confined to my back. Just where I can't reach. If there is no one around to help a hairbrush is very useful  ::)

It would have to be there.

Hello ladies.
I had the extreme itching a while ago, lasted about six months and then stopped, I now have slight itching but not too much. My anxiety issues now seem to affect my abdomen and the 'trouser trumping' (love that phrase) has put in an appearance.
Having a down day today and totally fed up with this meno business!
Best wishes to sufferers everywhere.
K.

I think one of the most difficult aside from the anxiety is poor short-term memory. Last week i went shopping and put my car key into the side pocket of my bag. After paying for the ticket, i couldn't find the key. Anywhere. I started to panic and had to sit and take deep breaths. Finally, after calming myself down, i decided to look into the side pocket and there it was.

Ladybug...forgive my ignorance but what is a moggie?

Strangest symptom for me has been intermittent itching/burning all over from my feet to the top of my head when I have a hot flash, get real anxious, do something strenuous that causes me to sweat, get in the hot sun and sweat, or even take a hot bath or shower.  The burning comes first, then skin turns redder, then the itching starts.  If I cool off immediately like getting in the wind or in front of a fan or turn on cold water, it abates pretty quickly. No doctor seems to know what this is.  I have wondered if it is some kind of histamine reaction and took antihistamines for it but they didn't help. Since it comes with sweat, I think either my sweat must be too acidic or my skin is too thin/dry now in menopause and the sweat irritates it.  I don't like to use a lot of lotion because it is hot most of the year where I live and I think it makes me sweat more. It really limits my ability to exercise. This started several months before my periods completely stopped and just got worse.  It went away after I started HRT but it took about 2 months.

Has anyone had this or do you know what it is?

Hi Girls,

Newbie here and feel as if I am going slightly mad, sound familiar?

Do any of you get shivery, like your'e coming down with something?  I have so many weird symptoms, I think I would need an hour with the doctor and that would never happen, generally, I just grin and bear it.

I am 54 and haven't had a period since July 2012.  I have gone the 12 months without a period but I am still experiencing, swollen breasts, itching, creepy crawley feeling, vaginal cramps (like just before a period is coming), mood swings, aching joints, especially, knee, hips and ankle.  Sudden episodes of severe pain which go as quickly as they came.  Cystitis, urinary frequency (having to run to the low or else got caught short), brain fog, feeling of pressure on top of head, lack of enthusiasm for doing stuff around the house.

Without sounding like a long playing record, the list goes on and on and I have trailed thorugh so many medical sights and they all say that vaginal cramps are not normal after menopause, I beg to differ.  My latest weird symptom, has been a cyclic occurance of piles, periods of constipation (which I never used to suffer from) and palpitations.

Having found this site, I feel as if I am no longer going completely bonkers, but probably all my symptoms mirror a lot of other people's.

How long after the cessation of periods, do you have to go without feeling the pain of phantom ones?

I live in Norway and am struggling with the language barrier.  I am lucky to have found a lovely, lady doctor but she is always so busy and I feel as if I would need a double app with her at least to even get through some of my symptoms.

Thanks in anticipation,
Donnarob. :)

Hi donnarob. It is impossible to tell how long it will last for you as every woman is different. You say that even though you have not had a period for over twelve months but it is after periods stop that symptoms really kick in which is why a lot of women begin HRT at this time.

Most of your symptoms can be attributed to menopause - especially palpitations (this stopped completely for me once I began HRT) mood swings, aching joints, brain fog, cystitis type feelings, bladder problems. All of these are usually helped by HRT. Have you considered it?

Have you had a bone density test?  Women lose a lot of bone mass around (both before and after) the last period.  HRT can help to protect your bones.

Something else to think (read) about that you don't really have symptoms of  and that probably should be addressed or checked about now.

Hi, I am new on here and posted under newbie section but wanted to share one of my experiences to see if anyone else has this?
I have noticed that when I get palpitations I seem to lose the ability to swallow, it is really scary but only lasts a second and then I figure it out and can swallow again. Anyone else had this?

Sparkle

 :welcomemm:

I have had panic attacks on the motorway too. It has completely put me off driving on them, even dual carriageways. Hiatus hernia, yep, along with persistent reflux, IBS, aches and pains, trouble finding words, yep, I should say 'welcome to the club'!  :)

Hi Sparkle & welcome. I have the nausea & acid too. Have had the omneprazole & anti nausea drugs but they didn't do anything apart from give me a brown tongue so I stopped the lot to give my tummy a rest. I still have constant nausea though like morning sickness. Eating helps just like when you are pregnant. I am so desperate for hormones. You are not alone very normal it's nice to know isn't it.
I thought your periods went light or heavy you got a bit hot end of.  Its nothing like that!  The palpitations start, then other symptoms kick in & I think it makes us so anxious we do get scared of doing normal things. No idea when your next period will be & when it comes it makes you so ill. Wish I had never turned 50!!! Pre all this a glass of wine would sort out any ailments but its like paint stripper now.
If you search heartburn & nausea at the top of the page you might find some useful posts. Bev x

My allergies have really increased, would love a dog but barely coping with my cats as it is. Also developed allergies to strawberries, raspberries and stone fruit just when I could do to be eating more of the good stuff.

With driving I'm really struggling with night vision and spatial awareness, lacking some confidence with day driving but night time just feels dangerous. Anyone else getting this?

My driving has dropped to a minimum. I don't do motorways either due to a panic attack. They make me feel dizzy. I used to love driving and cars were my thing. Now i am a nervous passenger who hates cars.

You can get dogs that don't cause allergies. I have a little Bichon Frise. They don't cast so no allergy problems. There are quite a few dogs that don't cast. Bichons are lovely sparky little dogs with a lot of character. She is my little pal who loves a snuggle. I would recommend this breed.

I don't get palpitations but I do get the inability to swallow thing - it's very scary! It almost feels like I've forgotten how to swallow, if that makes sense. It happens whether I'm eating/drinking or not, and I can't breathe for a few seconds.

I was so interested and am so relieved (for want of a better word) to hear that others have had motorway panic attacks because I can empathise completely.  The last time I drove on a motorway was about four years ago, on my way to a work meeting and not long after flu.   Each time I drove past a slip road, I had a fresh panic attack.  I had a total of four during that journey and I honestly thought I was going to die.  And the crazy thing was - it was the A9 to Perth, a dual carriageway and not even a proper motorway - it was almost empty!  I just had a sensation of this huge stretch of road looming up in front of me and could hardly cope.  I crept along at 40mph.  By the time I got to the meeting, I was a wreck.  It was absolutely horrible and apart from having to (somehow) drive back to Edinburgh after the meeting, I haven't driven on motorways since.  I don't know if I ever will, because I've never liked them, not even as a child.   Other driving is okay, fortunately.

Hi Tabbycat,
I am so relieved to hear of someone else who has this swallowing thing, like you say it really is awful and so scary!! Yes I understand exactly what you mean when you say it's like you have forgot how to swallow, thats exactly what it is like for me and I also cant breath. The first time it happened to me I then got the palpitations and like adrenalin running in my body and i eventually went to A&E convinced I was having a hear attack!!

All my symptoms seem to have come at one and out of nowhere apart from the swallowing thing which has been happening all year mearly. But now over the last two weeks Im having these hot flushes and waking up every hour and it takes me an hour to get back to sleep, im feeling exhausted. I also have muscle cramos in my calves like iv'e done a marathon, trouble finding the right words and a weird rush feeling like adrenalyn. Two nights ago after one of the sweats I got up to get a drink from the kitchen and had this adrenalyn rush and had to sit down as I felt like I was going to pass out.

All I can say is I am so relieved to find this site and read others stories as it kind of gives me hope maybe I am not going mad or dying?? But I am still really scared something is seriously wrong with me...........I want to kind of relax a bit and allow myself to feel normal but I'm to scared to...........Did I mention the anxiety and panic has taken over too :'(

Hello everyone

I'm brand new here and this is my v first post, I was going to post elsewhere but was so relieved to read all these weird symptoms I just wanted to add a 'Yay for weird symptoms' to the list.  I live in Austria and am overrun with interested doctors because the healthcare system is excellent, but I am really missing out on sharing oddness with others - my German is not good enough and most of my friends are still having babies. I'm 44 so I'm still having those 'OMG! It's all falling into place!' moments.

My strangest ones are actually, reading these, pretty normal but I totally empathise with the lady who experiences shame and sends daft text messages apologising for something that was probably totally fine...I do that ALL the time.  I'm not afraid of driving but I am definitely more wary of it, especially here where we drive on the right  :)  Also the palpitations like my heart is about to burst out of my bra, that's horrible, aching joints but only on the right hand side, little electric shocks across my diaphragm and also on my scalp! ha ha and thanks to my memory loss I can't even remember half the flamin' symptoms!!  Please keep posting them, it's a HUGE relief to see other people are having the same crazy experiences!  ;D

Hi S_T  :welcomemm:

Please do introduce yourself at new members where you will get a warm welcome from all these lovely ladies and lots of advice and shared experiences -all reassuring that you are not alone.

I too have the electric shocks over my scalp, noise in my right ear and tingling in the outer extremities of my body for good measure!! As for short term memory - what was I saying again?! Look forward to sharing more. Sunshine x   :)

Cal, I've had the (non-)swallowing thing for years and it's still the most frightening experience.

Those adrenalin rushes you have sound like panic attacks, not surprising if you're suffering from anxiety (I get that too, but it goes back to way before the meno symptoms started).

Some days I just get so fed up of it all I get snappy with myself! Honest, I sometimes have this internal dialogue going:

- I'm aching/tired/sore [or insert today's symptom]
- Oh, FFS just shut up, you're boring!
