Title: Nearly 50 and have taken up jogging :)
Post by: minuette on February 04, 2012, 01:09:19 PM
Because of recently going on HRT and finally realising that I'm going to be 50 later this year I've decided to take up jogging to get fitter.

I've started slowly, at the moment I'm fast walking more than jogging as I'm building the jogging times up slowly but I'm loving it :)

Don't know why I posted this really, just wanted to share.  Anyone else taken up jogging?

No I haven't, but I'm impressed with your effort and determination. Well done you! :medal:

Wish I had the same determination, but I get out of breathe just running to the corner shop for my ciggies.  Lol

Brisk walking is better for joints though! I have a tread-mill - over there in the corner, see it covered in books waiting to be read  ::): which I really must make more effort to use this year  8)

Last year I took up jogging. Started off with jogging and walking for 30 second blocks. I built it up and I was able to run 5 mins in one go - then I stopped - think it was a cluster of migraines that did it. Not ran for months. Recently I bought more gear - downloaded a jogging app on my iPhone but still haven't made it out the door yet!  I know I will have to start again at the beginning.

Maybe you could inspire me and we could do it together? Xxx

I cant jog....it makes me get out of breath and my chin hurts from being slapped :boobs:
seriously. I am into cycling and its my goal to double my mileage this year. (last summer did 620 miles) so far this year ive done 88 so on target so far...put a pair of jeans on that were too tight b4 xmas and they are nicely loose today so its really worth the effort of gettin out of your chair :-)

I've started slowly - firstly I did 2 mins walking to warm up, then 6 mins fast walking and 1 minute jogging x 4 = 30 mins

Did that 3 times, next was 2 mins warm up, then 5 mins fast walking 2 mins jogging x 4 = 30 mins.  Have done this twice, so will do this once more then move up to 4 mins walking 3 mins jogging etc etc until I get to 30 mins jogging.

That's the plan anyway and I'm nothing if not determined!  ;D

I'm 48 and I've just taken it up too! My family are stunned... never done anything like that before. I was so fed up with feeling anxiety and low grade depression seemingly caused more by hormones than anything else that I tried it in desperation. and you know what - it has definitely helped. I don't think I'm ever going to do any long distances but 20 mins before work seems to make a big difference. I really like walking though so I've signed up for the Moon Walk (26 miles through the night, in May) Am determined to go through with it.
Good luck with your jogging, minuette.Let me know how you get on.

Donna yes let's keep each other motivated - well done on signing up for the Moon Walk, I always find it's easier when I've got a goal to work towards.

Re the joints etc I'm already quite fit anyway as I already do fast walking on a treadmill have done for quite a few years and I swim approx 3 times a week also so jogging for me is going to the next level.

Aw I wanted to be part of the jogging gang (I asked in my post earlier) can I not play too? Mind you I've not really got started again so can't really call myself a jogger. Xxx

Yes hot&spicy of course you can be in the jogging gang!  ;D

Can't call myself a jogger either just yet, I've only done 5 walk/jogs, having a rest day today and starting again tomorrow morning.

My husband went out this morning and ran for an hour, he's been jogging for years, while I lay in bed reading. Exercise for me is purely a Mon-Fri thing!

I tend to be a fair weather jogger - have not been out for a couple of weeks due to the weather and having just started a University course as well as working. Been doing it for a few years, never very far- about 3 miles and pretty slow about 13 minutes per mile but I do enjoy being out in the countryside. Plan to go 3 times a week but usually only manage twice (none at the mo!) and I'm 51 next week.

Hi fellow potential joggers!
Have been laid low with a horrible cold for a week but got out there again today and yesterday..one walk and one (short) run.
I'm sure it's true that walking is better for you and I enjoy it much more but I'm really short of time and running feels like the easiest way to get some exercise quickly (and cheaply!)
I really feel like I need to keep exercising to keep my anxiety at bay.

How are you getting on Minuette?

Donna
Title: Re: Nearly 50 and have taken up jogging :)
Post by: minuette on February 15, 2012, 05:53:21 PM
I'm getting on really well thanks Donna, sorry to hear you've had a cold.

This is now my third week running and I'm loving it!  I started the Couch to 5K this week, which basically gets you from being a couch potato to running a 5k in 9 weeks and I'm thinking of signing myself up for the Race for Life in July which will be a great achievement.

I've found that when I'm walk/running that it really clears my mind and I'm not really thinking of anything at all, it's a great break from the day to day stresses I've found.  I'm still in the very early stages and I've got a long way to go but the buzz I get from it is terrific.

So do you run outside?  I ran outside for the first 2 weeks, but we're back home now and I'm on a treadmill.

Flyaway - what University course have you started? I'm doing an OU course.

Hi i've still not got back to running - the weather has been way too cold and the Uni work has been a little overwhelming!
I'm doing a foundation degree in health and social care with rehabilitation - one day a week off work to study and attend a tutorial at uni, the rest at work so like the open university a lot of it is online/self directed study etc.
Not having done any formal learning for 30 years its a bit of a steep learning curve!
I'm going to leave it to March and then get back to running.

Well done to everyone who is pounding the streets/treadmill :D

Only just seen this thread......I started walking/jogging ( a bit!) about a week ago at 55.Never had the slightest desire to do it before,in fact I couldn't think why on earth people wanted to do it.Wouldn't run for a bus....

But,first of all,a friend who works for the NHS told me about this app she had downloaded to her phone from the NHS site thats called (I think) 'From Couch to 5K' which basically tries to help complete non exercisers gradually build up to being able to jog 5K. . . . as opposed to lying on the couch LOL
Anyway,she loved it and had found it quite easy,although she's only a young 'un ( 42  :) )

I didn't end up using the app,but I just felt so bloomin downright unfit since Xmas, that I decided to have a little experimental jog whilst out walking.Setting myself little goals like 'to the next tree' or 'to that parked car'  ::)
I managed it ok-ish,but felt terribly self-conscious,puffing along in my little old lady way of moving.

Freakishly . . . after a lifetime of comparitive inertia.....I find I like it! :o
My knees however.....don't!!! But I'm going to see if that's just the initial shock to their system and try and build up very gently. My teenage daughter was hysterical with laughter, and my husband looked at me queerly over his spectacles, when I announced my new 'hobby'.And that has made me all the more keen.... ;)

Let's keep going girls!  :)

Well done all you ladies who are getting active.

I've worked in a building for 9 years which has a gym (where we get a hugely discounted membership rate) on the ground floor and never joined or even been in there until recently.  I felt that I needed to do something, having been sat on my bottom all day at a desk and then being inactive most evenings.

Like some of you I am really enjoying it.  I go in my lunch break and do work on the power plate then 20 mins of cardio (running, rowing or cross trainer).  I'm surprised at how much I want to keep up with my 3 times a week rule that I've made for myself!  Having some good tunes on my iPod certainly helps!

Keep it up everyone.

Fantastic Jillymoo ;D - that's what I've started doing, the NHS Couch to 5K podcasts and they're brilliant! I can highly recommend them.

I started the week 2 podcast today (but the fourth of my jogging weeks), by week 9 I'll be running for 30 mins 3 times a week but like you, more than anything I'm enjoying it so much!  I'm really surprised because although I used to fast walk on a treadmill quite often, the thought of going faster and jogging filled me with horror, but now that I'm doing it, it's not as terrifying as I thought.

Re your knees, make sure you have a rest day in-between runs/walks to recover and build it up gradually.

Jellyb - again fantastic  :) I have an iPod playlist from when I was fast walking it's got some weird slow songs on that don't inspire running necessarily but inspire me because of the power of them, if you know what I mean :)

Well done to all of us!!!  ;D

Hi All
How's the fitmess stuff going? I hope you are all feeling good? I have had a really stressful work both at work and home but I'm convinced the walking and running has helped me to cope with it better than I would have done before. Mind you I still enjoy my glass of wine which I am indulging in right now!

Hugs to everyone

Hi Donna

I'm still doing the couch to 5K, I'm on week 3 now and loving it.  I even signed up for the Race for Life 5K in July! ;D

I bought some shiny new trainers at the weekend and a couple of new sports tops and am contemplating running outside on Friday instead of on the treadmill, just not to keen with being watched, I like to huff and puff in relative anonymity!!

But it's going well and I'm really proud of myself.  Are you following any particular programme?

Well done minuette - and everyone else  :)

You will love RFL, the atmosphere is so inspiring. I have walked it for many years but last year I ran it with my daughter dressed head to toe in purple! I know RFL is pink but we are rock chicks and don't "do" pink! LOL

I've been running for just over a year now after losing 3 stone and just wish I had done it years ago. I'm not fast and still have to walk for spells on longer runs but I just love it and my medal count is growing - 4 5k, 2 6k and 2 10k last year - and I am aiming for a half marathon in April this year.

I started off on the treadmill and found running outside much harder to begin with but it gets easier and I now run or volunteer most Saturdays at my local parkrun. You should try it if you have one near you - its a free, weekly timed 5k, not a race and caters for all ages and abilities. I was tail runner last week and went round with a 6 year old and her mum!

.......... oh by the way I'm 56 so it is never too late!  ;)

Did anyone see the programme during the week about how good/bad exercise is for us and how some people may never lose weight by exercising because they have a gene that won't let them  .......... however, from experience I know that exercise is good, it increases oxygen intake, raises the heart beat, allows us to meet people when out and about ........... I've been gardening a lot this week and feel GOOD !
Title: Re: Nearly 50 and have taken up jogging :)
Post by: minuette on March 04, 2012, 02:27:38 PM
Celticapril wow that's fantastic you are my inspiration!! :D

Parkrun - yes my plan is to finish the couch to 5K, got another 6 weeks to go, and then to do the park run at my local park, which is also where the RFL will be, so I'll get some good runs in there beforehand.

It's never too late, but I also wish I'd started this years ago.

Re the programme on exercise, I've not watched it yet but I've downloaded it on iplayer it looks interesting.

Today is supposed to be my rest day but I'm getting a little bit obsessed with it all and want to go running, but I think I'll swim instead.   :)

Walking kicks in endorphins which can help lift mood.  However, when I was very depressed I could only crawl out of bed as far as the settee, even crawling ot the door to let the cats in and the dog out  :'( ...........

We have been busy gardening this week so haven't needed that treadmill  ;D

Well thats it - no more excuses I have finally started jogging again. I have a colleague who is also a personal trainer - anyway she is quiet just now and has offered to help get me started again.  So yesterday off we went - yes she made me run in torrential rain/sleet! I did better than I thought and was not a complete basket case by the end of it.  My legs felt strong the whole time but my breathing let me down. She was delighted and said it would not be that long before I was running easier.

Today I feel like death!  There is nothing that doesn't hurt - oh god what have I started.  ;D

No bette that would be perfect! Not doing this to lose weight but just to get fitter. I have a job where I sit on my butt for hours at a time and I really do not exercise at all.  Hubby and I often go for long walks at the weekend but I never feel it raises my heartbeat very much!  I am also hoping that doing some kind of exercise burns up some of the anxiety symptoms too!  Anyway I have signed up for 8 half hour jogging sessions with my friend to help kickstart me into getting off my butt! Only problem is that both times I have come back I have collapsed in a heap for the rest of the day - kind of defeats the purpose huh! Anyway where the heck is the chocolate. Xxx
Title: Re: Nearly 50 and have taken up jogging :)
Post by: minuette on April 09, 2012, 04:39:14 PM
You know what they say - no pain no gain!! ;D

I also started jogging to get fitter and this week I'll finish the Couch to 5 K programme so I'm really pleased with myself, I'm going to carry on with running for 30mins 3 times a week and then will up it to run 5K in one go and then I'll do the Race for Life in July.

It's so worth it!!!  The other day I went out with my husband to walk one of the outside routes I'm thinking of running, all in all we walked for an hour at quite a fast pace and I wasn't even out of breath.  Also, I didn't count the hour as 'exercise', whereas before I would have thought I'd done really well and proud that I'd done an hours walking.  Nowadays that's nothing.  I can't quite believe I'm at this stage but it just proves that it can be done.  If you want to enough  :)

Good luck with the jogging sessions and enjoy the chocolate!  ;)

Thanks for your inspiration minuette. Am pleased to report that only a tiny bit of chocolate passed my lips this afternoon. However my am pleased to report that my recovery time this afternoon was far quicker than I imagined. This has given me a bit of a boost. Hopefully this will continue the fitter I become. This morning i was full of apprehension and anxiety at the thought of going for a run but I am quite determined I want to give it a go and I think it was that determination that got me out the door. Keep up your good work minuette. Xxx

Me too. Thought I would join in with my story. Im 51 now, and have taken up the treadmill thing. I started off by brisk walking, which I do at approx 3.8mph for an hour. I am now starting to introduce jogging or running after 5 mins of walking I run for a minute, my god how long a minute is when your running!! I have also spent all my life avoiding exercise apart from swimming which I love. I cant believe how excited I get about sweating or shoudl I say perspiring, it makes me feel so good, mad as that sounds. I do think it has helped my mood, so am going to continue until I can jog/run for 30 minutes however long that takes me to get to that stage...Good luck to you all! x :D

That's great blackwitch, I also love swimming and usually swim twice a week - have a look at the NHS Couch to 5K podcasts, they are what got me running for 30 minutes by starting out running for 1 minute and walking for 90 secs and building it up from there, it's a great programme!

In my experience, since I've started jogging, my aches and pains have greatly diminished which is fantastic and I feel so much fitter than ever before in my life, that's saying something!

Me and jogging have never really got on as it aggravates a long standing problem I have with my  ileo-tibial band in both legs. However 2 years ago I decided to take ice skating lessons. I started with one group lesson a week working on a 10 stage Learn to Skate programme but got hooked very quickly and now I have officially passed my level 8 in Learn to Skate and can do most of level 9 and 10 but can't pass them as there is one move I simply can't do yet which is a must to pass level 9. I also have a private lesson every week with a figure skating coach and I skate with the new friends I've made every Sunday (these girls are at least 25 -30 yrs younger than me but it doesn't matter at all to them or to me). I skate at every opportunity I get and I'm totally addicted! It's great exercise as it doesn't strain the joints and it is so much fun. On Easter Sunday I was given an impromptu lesson on ice dancing which was such a treat as I'd always wanted to dance on ice with a partner.  I've only fallen about 6 times in 2 years and not at all for the last 6 months but it hurts when you hit the ice so I now wear knee, elbow and hip pads, all very discreet so I don't look like a blimp.
I can highly recommend it to anyone looking for a fun form of exercise.  I'll be heading for the rink again later today to start learning a Salchow jump, who'd have thought I'd be doing that at 56!!

Well last night I was dreading my trainer coming this morning. Was trying to come up with lots of creative ways of cancelling her. In the end she had to cancel me as she was very unwell at the weekend. Initially I was secretly pleased and then I was gutted - my whole day went to pot after that and dare I say it I missed my run. Have just made myself do some floor exercises just now and I think I might try a run tom with my daughter - not up to going out on my own yet - cant believe I missed it!! Xxx

It's great to know you are all doing so well, I've been a bit lazy recently due to injuring my knee a couple of months ago -been to GP today and she's not sure what it is and recommended physio - should have known that, I work with them every day!!
So I need to get back on the horse by doing lots of knee exercises and walking regularly before I start jogging again, I feel so unfit and my IBS has been worse recently and I am sure exercise helps.
So keep it up girls - I can't ever imagine my Mum doing this at the age of 51!! ::)

Very hilly course round Edinburgh but the downhills were bliss!  Loved every step of the way and have already signed up for next year, hoping to knock at least 20 minutes off my time - I finished in 03:01:31

Wow well done celticapril - what a great achievement. The Edinburgh marathon is at the end of this month. The finish line is near my house. I always go along and cheer the runners in - I always end up crying and utterly inspired to run. Xxx

Broke through a brick wall mentally today. Went for a jog on Monday that ended up being horrific.  It was sooo hot and I have never ran in the heat before (i live in Scotland remember!).  Anyway on Monday my legs felt like lead - I could barely breathe and my face felt like it was going to burst with the heat.  I hardly managed anything.  Went home and felt really ill for the rest of the day. I was so disappointed - wanted to give up.  Anyway today I was scheduled to be going back out again with my trainer - I woke up at 7.30 am and the first thing I did was burst into tears - i just felt that everything was too hard - couldn't face my jog - couldn't face stresscos (no food in the cupboard) - couldn't make a decision but knew I wanted to cancel the day and stay in bed.

I didn't!  I dragged myself up - dried my tears - delegated stresscos to my kids and went out running.  For the first few minutes I was crying - just felt too overwhelmed with it all.  Anyway I ran for 8 minutes non stop!!! That is a huge success for me - so am well chuffed.  I kept going but we broke it down into run/walk - the block of runs were much longer than previously.  So here we are a few hours later - kids at the shops - my run was not a failure - getting ready to go out for lunch with a friend and have just sent an email to a woman for hypno to help me get on that plane in three weeks - so all in all an improvement since 7.30 this morning.

8 minutes!!!  Am well chuffed.  :clapping: Still got a long way to go but thats ok.  Xxx

Brilliant hot&spicy that's fantastic!!! :)

I remember when I first ran for 5 minutes in one go, I felt exactly as you do, I was so happy and pleased with myself, it's a great feeling.

There's no stopping you now!!  ;D

Just want to share one other thing Minuette. On Fri evening hubby and i decided to go for a run - there is a walk along the river which is 1.5 miles each way making it three in total.  I only had three VERY short stops to bring my breathing back down again but basically ran most of the way.  Hubby reckons we ran at least 2 to 2.5 miles.  He was pecking but did not want to stop as he did not want me to be better than him! He was extremely impressed with how much I have come on in the last few weeks. Lets see if i can replicate it with my trainer on wed tho! Thanks for your support and encouragement - always helps! xxx

Hi all,

I have started to ride a bike against after **** years - well it seems that way.  I am loving it.  Also have started to go to a personal trainer, she nearly kills me but again I am loving it.  I also walk quite a bit and have, last night joined a slimming club. I want to lose about three stone so let's hope, by Christmas, I am well on the way.  I am very determined to do this.  Age, me, 56 so here goes.....

Hi Everyone
I'm also approaching 50 and at the beginning of June I also started jogging.  I'm following a 5K Training Plan, it was hard going at first - walk a minute jog a minute etc, but its amazing how quickly you build us some staminer.  I think it will be a while before I can do 5K but at the moment I am just so pleased to be undertaking some exercise!

Should add - I go out at 6.30am before the neighbours get up, and hubbie follows on at a slower place with the dogs, I figure at least he'll find me if I flake out on the way round!

Congratulations to all those other ladies who have commenced an exercise xx

Hello everyone
well quite  a few people take up jogging/running later in life and do ok but i guess you have to know yourself and what you can manage. Also nearly 50 (a young one ;)) and took up running about 4 years ago, i keep thinking i wont last as sometimes my knees twinge but I am now up to a comfortable 10 k run.  I feel i have to keep on keeping fit.  I enjoy going out running by myself as well as with others when they want to join me. So keep going all those who are trying for the first time in later years. :)

Hello everyone

I have only just found this post, well done everyone with all you are doing!

Cycling is my favourite, although I don't go far I do go out regularly. I would love to swim but feel embarrassed in my costume. I am overweight - have lost 2.5 stone since Jan but still a size 16/18

Managed a big achievement yesterday, actually did some jogging - only very very short, 3 bits in between walking, but I was so chuffed!! Hope to build on it, but have to be careful with knees. Interested in the training plan Bunnieface, where did you get the info? if you don't mind me asking?

Good luck Sandy - you can do it and you will feel great!

Hi purplenanny well done for managing your little jog - its great isn't it when you see you can do it and that you quite like it. If you just google stuff like 'learn to jog a 5k' or '5k running programme'' or stuff like that I am sure something will come up. I think the site I used was 'jog scotland'. Another way to do it is to jog for 30 seconds then walk for 30 seconds - do this eight times in the session. Practise that a few times a week and then increase it to a minutes jog and then a minutes walk etc ...  Or you could run/walk between lampposts and build that up too. Good luck. It's quite addictive tho!! Xxx

Purplenanny, this is how I started running.  I'm now running 3 times a week, regularly doing a 5K and am going to sign up for the Manchester 10K in May 2013.  It's a fantastic plan.  :)

purplenanny, the gradual approach is definitely the best way to get into running. I used to run, when I started it was for very short distances, I mean short to the extent that the cats used to come with (we lived in a rural area). I knew I was getting better when the cats gave up.

I have sadly had to stop the walking/jogging for the time being. It caused awful pain in my shins. Dr wants to see me next week for the results of blood tests and bone scan. Very dissapointed as I was building up nicely

I am not sure as I only did walking for 10 mins including a very very short jog twice. But, the pain has stopped since I stopped. Very frustrating.

Will see doc next week for blood results. It will be interesting what he comes up with

This is similar to what happened to me. I started running with the intention of doing the Race for Life. I built it up a little at a time but on the day I ran my first non stop mile I aggravated  a knee condition, ileotibial band syndrome, which I've had on and off for a number of years. It is very painful and made me decide that running isn't for me. I'll stick with my ice skating, it's less damaging to the joints.

I agree that your shin pain sounds like shin splints.

I went to see a physiotherapist a few days ago and one of the things that she told me was that a lot of business came her way from home get fit machines including the Wii, she said never work out on any of these in bare feet, always wear proper trainers.

Jogging on older joints is not a good idea, walking is far better!

Jogging is bad for us.  It can cause hair-line fractures and stress injuries to the ankles upwards  ::).  We are built for gentle walking or sudden spurts of running but not jogging and certainly not marathon running ..........  :cuss:

I started using the treadmill a couple of weeks ago but was so tired after ............  :P

Yes I'm still here, still jogging, still loving it. Started when I was 49, now 50 and will be doing the Manchester 10k in May.

People will always have excuses for not doing things, but I say go for it! My "old joints" are loving it!

Some one was telling me recently that there is a Company in the UK that takes foot measurements, notes how the person walks, where the pressure points in each foot are, how the foot rolls and then advises on what type of footwear they should buy.

I took up walking by accident a year ago, i kept getting weepy at night and was getting on my own nerves so i decided to walk roung the neighbourhood with headsets on (so i looked like i was listening to something!) and cry there instead!!
Anyhow 5 nights a week at 1/2 an hour resulted in a stone weight loss
Now a year later i do 40 mins four mornings a week . Am now 2 stone lighter and feel proud as punch. I never thought i wold see 8 stone 5 on the scales again... I wasnt even that when i got married 20 years ago!
Anyhow , my point is , intermittesntly over the year i tried jogging a few paces and as sure as eggs are eggs, EVERY time i did this, a few weeks later i ended up with different aulments including strained achilles, bad knee and plantar fascia ( like a lumpy feeling in my foot)
My advice... Forget the jogs n stick o walking...less glamorous😏but less painful ... And pretty effective!
( and now i can wear crazy youngsters clothing...if only i could be xxxrsed to go out anywhere!!

Well done Tingly. Wish it worked for me! I do a fast two mile walk - just under half an hour - most days but it has made no difference to my weight. I remember that when I was in my forties I had my varicose veins done and I had to walk for forty five minutes, non-stop, every day. I only weighed seven and a half stone then but at the end of six weeks I had lost 10lbs. It doesn't seem to work now that I am 59 though.

It might be just me but obviously as we get older then metabolism slows down so I guess we just have to walk further and faster to get the same result - and eat less of course although I am in a muddle as to how much you should eat. My doc tells me I am not consuming enough calories!

I know this is a very old post and maybe nobody will see it but just had to say something - new on here, am 46, started to get some symptoms so went to see doctor and she suggested this website - although I'm still in denial (am toooooo young !!). Anyway, she also nagged me to give up the smoking and drinking the amount I was, and somewhere on this thread I read about couch to 5k, never heard of it before so did some investigating ..... anyway, I am now 8 days smoke free, 8 days alcohol free, 8 days caffeine free and have started jogging - a few days of my body wondering what the beejessus was going on but am hopeful !!

Goodness can't remember when I was last on this site - too busy running ;) but just had to reply to you when I got the notification.

Good for you cbr. Keep at it. It is hard to start with but take it nice and slowly and it will get easier. If you have a parkrun close by I would definitely recommend going along as you will be made very welcome and may even find a running buddy.

I'm 61 now, still running and husband has joined me as he got fed up holding the bags for me and our daughter at all the races! Our 2 year grandson even gets in on the act now as mum pushes him in his special running buggy as he shouts "Faster mummy faster!" That medal rack in my profile is overflowing now - in fact I need a new one!

I sneaked my first marathon in just before I turned 60 and plan to do another next year. Best thing I ever did taking up running - just wish I had done many years sooner!

Regular runner, not fast but have stamina,  run on and off since mid 20s, only increased mileage over past year , previously half marathon was my most.  Want to be better trail runner.   To anyone reading this , don't give in to to "can't be arsed" feeling and I say that thru experience.  It's a little demon that is no help.  ANY excersize of any form and duration helps massively with the stress and symptoms of this craphole called menopause.  Fed up with fatigue and loss of muscle strength but the great thing is using my frustration and anger to power my run😅😅😅  .    Does anyone feel pigeonholed by menopause as in "Oh, yr old and shouldn't wear this/listen to that music/ you should want to slow down/take up knitting instead "   Noooooo,   I don't like this older rubbish.... (No offence meant to anyone older or who knits!)  Does anyone else feel like they silently rage and scream  against this or am I alone and just sad really ? 😮🤔😁

Jogging isn't good for the joints though!   Prefer brisk walking myself  ;) and don't do mud  ;D.  I watch people running up and down places like Helvellyn and they don't see the scenery which is partly why I go out and about.

I've never conformed  :-X  so never feel pigeon-holed.  We read.  Walk.  Garden.  We used to cycle ......... but I don't see much of the scenery as roads are so FULL of potholes [is that contracdictory].

How far would you go?  Is trail running like orienteering?  I know that they do mud swimming in Wales but that's too wet and cold for me to even consider  ::)

As for being 'old' - age is a number and I can't find any organisation that actually knows what 'old' or 'elderly' means  >:(  ::)

Proven by Dr Micheal Mosely in this instance and a similar programme where he experimented with his own fitness and excersize , proved that running doesn't affect the knees badly as we imagine.  I couldn't explain the biomechanics of it,  but any impact excersize is necessary for us older ladies , im sure walking covers it too.  I put the link not to contradict but to encourage.  I'd love for those women who hate excersize to be able to sit on he sofa daily with chocolates(I'd love to) but sadly it's not healthy for us
This is a little info , not a reply.
Excersize has to be necessary but enjoyment not a chore.  For me it works better than the antidepressants that don't and hrt that's patchy at best.

Every days a learning curve.  One can prove things by double blind tests as well as X-raying children from the time they begin to walk.  However, as a medical secretary [who hasn't read the Link, yet  ::)]

Glad you enjoy jogging.  Brisk walking is fast enough for me  ;D
