Please can anyone tell me why everyone is still allowed to see my e-mail address, when I have ticked the hide e-mail address box.
When I go to members and look up my name there is an envelope next to my name which allows people to e-mail me.
How do I erase this.

On sign-up, your email is now hidden by default. Only you and the admin can see your own email. A small envelope icon will be visible to you but NOT to anyone else.
As a security update, since 11 Oct 2008 when all email addresses were hidden forum-wide, you will only be able to see other emails if the user has specifically gone into their account and unchecked the 'hide email' box.

I had the same query, but your email is hidden from everyone - I've looked, only you can see it.

Will you do me a favour though, go in the members section and look up my name, at the side of it there is an envelope, if you open that envelope will it allow you to send me an e-mail or see my e-mail address.
Or if anybody else reads this before squirrel will you look for me.
Its a little confusing this e-mail thing to whether its hidden or not

Had a look in the members section and no, there isn't an envelope there, so no email address available.

I'm glad I'm not the only one trying to hide e-mail address , been trying the last 2 days , now see I've been wasting my time ! Now I feel silly , but what I would like to know is how do you put the smileys on your messages , I keep trying ?

It's quite easy to get the smillies on your messages there are a few above the box where you type your reply and there is brackets with the word more and if you click on that you will get a box pops up with more smillies in it, if you just click on the smillie you want where you want it it should just go there.

I like you kept trying to hide mine 'till I worked out it was only appearing to me ! !

Hi all,
I am new, and i have read all the threads relating to being able to see email addresses!
However i have a problem with my email address as even though i ticked the hide box mine is still visable to everyone!!
I know this cos each person that has an envelope beside their name ,if you click on this you have their email.
also at the right hand side of each message same envelope is there (without going into profiles iykwim)
i would appreciate any input on this

I have just checked your profile and I can't see your e-mail address (it says 'hidden') so are think you are ok. Lots of us have worried about this in the past.

have i got an envelope icon on the left hand side of my posting? (beside where you have a pic of cats) i can see it on my post, and on some other posts as well, if i click on their envelope , a email address is shown.
also if you click on "members" anyone that has an envelope showing (me included) their address are visable.
having read over my post, it sounds sooo confusing!!! :-\ my apologies for this.. What can i say.. I'm menopausel >:(

Your email address is not showing on your posts, or anywhere for others to see it. It can only be seen by you. Hope this helps.

No you don't have an envelope icon at the left side of your posting. Don't worry about getting confused - we all understand. You will soon get the hang of it. Nice to have you onboard anyway.

Fleurie - the ones you see as showing are the ones where people have requested that there addresses be available to everyone. Well, that's how it should work. Can you click on mine to see? It should show hidden.
Your own email address will always be "showing" to yourself but I have just checked yours and I can't see it and nor can anyone else on here.
Give mine a go and let me know if I am "hidden" or not.

At midnight on the 11 Oct 2008, I changed everyone's email to hidden - except my own, in case you need to contact me.
So if you really want to have your email shown, you'll have to go into your profile and change it - sorry for any inconvenience but there were over 400 addresses that hadn't been hidden and I'm sure not by choice.
Email addresses are now hidden by default on signup.

I've just realised that my email address is shown - how can I change that, please? (Thought I'd arranged for it to be hidden.) Happy to receive pm's but would prefer email to remain private.

Don't worry - only you can see your email addy - it's hidden to the rest of us. We've had this come up so many times before I think there should be some kind of note in the registration process to explain this!

It's ok Bixby - when we look at your name and avatar we can't see an email envelope. I can see mine but apparently nobody else can. Try it - can you see an email envelope next to my name and avatar?

It was the fact that I could see an email envelope next to mine and not others that got me thinking that there was something wrong!

Hi all
I am new to the forum and wanted to also ask the same question about my e-mail box showing to all. Am i right in thinking i just need to tick the box on my personal info and only I can see the e-mail box on posts? Can someone check my member details and clarify.

This question never goes away and I get the occasional irate email demanding to know why the email is visible to the world (which it isn't!).
So I've replaced the little envelope icon with a transparent pixel, just in case you're wondering where it's disappeared to.

Hi new here too, I think my email is showing to public as I received a very nice email from nice lady, however I do wish to hide email address nonetheless, can you guys see it?? x ??? ???

Don't worry - it isn't showing. If the email was from someone on here, she probably sent you a pm - we can do that but we don't see the address it's going to.

P.S. To send a pm, click on the name of the person to bring up their profile, scroll down and you'll see "Send this person a personal message".

I have the same probs with trying to hide email address - I have emailed "webmaster " twice but got no repliy so it was very reassuring to see others with same problem.
I am going to see if the wee box thing is missing beside my name - I bloody hope so

It might be that when you check your own profile, it shows your email addy, but doesn't display it to other users.

Of course since this was posted Emma has removed the small envelope as she says in her post a little while ago.
