Thank you so much for accepting me to this amazing group.
A little background, before my help question.
I am 62yrs old, post menopausal for 5 years and started a post meno bleed 3 months ago. (Just to note, I am still bleeding), and have never been on any HRT). Went straight to GP and was put on fast track and had, bloods, ultrasounds and pippelle biopsy.
Thankfully no cancer found. I was told that I have a 24mm lining in my womb due to excessive oestrogen.
Im now waiting for a follow up appointment with the consultant for them to tell me the next stage.
After some sensible online reading, I’ve seen that the mireana coil is often used.
My question to all you wise ladies is; have you had one fitted and found it’s done the trick, or did you have something else.
I had a mireana coil fitted in my younger child bearing years, and it gave the most horrendous side effects and had it removed. I also had awfull side affects with all the different contraceptive pills I tried, and was always super sensitive to any hormonal treatments, so I am naturally quite worried as how to how it will affect me now.
Would love to hear your experiences.

Thank you for your reply, no i haven’t ever been on any HRT.
The build up in the lining is solely down to excess oestrogen.

I have a mirena and for me it's been great, no side effects. It's usually the most effective option for problem bleeding as long as you can tolerate it. Have they said why the lining has built up? If you're not on hrt and 5 years post meno it seems a bit surprising.

It's just that high oestrogen can be caused by oestrogen producing tumours as well as other things so it might be worth investigating if you haven't already.

I did. It isn't normal to have a dangerously thick lining 5 years post meno. It's completely up to you, I'm just pointing out that if you don't know the reason for your high oestrogen levels it would be sensible to get it checked out in case it's cancer or something else that should be treated.

Just to say that I am 6 years post menopause and, as suspected, I am having oestrogen surges mid-cycle. This is now confirmed via a Mira urine test that shows a sharp LH surge followed by a surge in oestrogen (by 150%).
I was planning to wait for a full cycle to show the pattern of the hormones I am urinating out every day, which looks similar, so far, to a pre menopausal cycle (ratio-wise, albeit lower levels) but thought it was relevant to mention here.
I would definitely take some form of progesterone to reduce your lining.

Thanks for your reply, but my post clearly states I have had all the test done by the consultants including the biopsy and I’ve provided the information that ‘no Cancer was found’
I only put the post up to connect with people who have and experience of using the Mireana coil.

The IUS is not your only option and may not be the first thing you go for given your previous negative experience.
Options include from least to most invasive;
Watch and wait approach with no active treatment and a follow up scan +/- repeat biopsy in a few months.
Oral progestin treatment
IUS
D&C
Hysterectomy
Apologies if this is either a sensitive topic or not relevant but excess body weight is the commonest cause of estrone driven endometrial hyperplasia in untreated postmenopausal women, so if you do have obesity addressing this could also be helpful.

I am hoping that when I get to see the consultant again I am well versed in my options, rather than just be told what they want to do for the issue.
Your suggestions certainly arm me with some information that I can discuss with her.
My weight is good, im an extremely active sporty person, and am the same weight and clothes size (12) as was in my 20’s.
