Title: Ribs sore to touch and pain in abdomen
Post by: Worrybeads20 on January 07, 2026, 09:22:53 AM
Morning anyone else had soreness when pressing on rib and discomfort in abdomen underneath which comes and goes? I e had this on and off for years but just in last few weeks hasn’t gone away as it usually does after a few days.  It feels acidy in stomach but gaviscon doesn’t seem to help.

I get acid reflux and have found the Acid Watcher diet very helpful. It usually works except when I'm very stressed, e.g moving house or working late but otherwise it's very good. I take gaviscon advance aniseed, it doesn't prevent reflux but seems to lessen the acidity if it does come up. According to the AW diet, we should avoid mint products so I avoid mint gaviscon.

Thanks for the response and interesting about the mint gaviscon which doesn’t make any difference. The pharmacist said you have to take this a few times though to see results.  I’ll look out for the aniseed one.  I’m hoping it’s stress but the rib soreness on both sides is puzzling me!

Can I ask is this on your right side? I also have this. It started a while ago and like yours, came and went. I thought it was weight gain and predominantly felt when I bent forward. So thought it was just discomfort of fat rolls… lol but over last few weeks I can feel a pulling feeling under rib and in shoulder blade at back.

I used to have this, not a medical reason but it was caused by wearing ill fitting tight bras that dug into my ribs and stomach muscle when bending. I'm overweight and have a large bust. The ribs became sore and inflamed the cartilage connecting ribs to the breastbone, Costochondritis. When sitting and bending forward the tight rim dug into my abdomen muscle and made it tender to touch. Anything tight around the stomach area can cause acid reflux especially when bending forward. I got better fitting bras that I only wear if I go out and at home wear those comfy pullover your head stretchy support bras with no rims or wired cups. Not had a problem with ribs since.
