Title: When to start progesterone
Post by: elliesmoomoo on December 07, 2025, 09:47:13 PM
Hello! New to the forum. I'm 41 and haven't had a period since September. (first day of period 20/09/25) Lots of peri symptoms over the last few years, horrific hot flushes for example. Anyway, my Dr has prescribed oestrogen gel and micronised progesterone to be taken days 15 to 28 of my cycle.. However how do I know when to start the progesterone when I haven't had a period in months? 🤷‍♀️

That is a good question, I guess if I were in your shoes I'd create my own cycle; on day 15 of the estrogen cycle I'd take my 1st dose of progesterone as per instructions. What would be most important for me is that I'm protecting my womb from the estrogen dose, so I'd think of the progesterone part of my cycle like that, rather than it being about creating a bleed/period.

Thank you for your reply. This makes a lot of sense, thank you for this. I've started taking the oestrogen today and will start the progesterone in 15 days.  :)

As you don't have a cycle of your own you may find it easier to start on the same date each month
