 :welcomemm:  morning.

Which symptom did U want to ease B4 trying HRT?  Is there a reason why you stopped?

There are many ways of delivering HRT.  Some find that keeping a mood/food/symptom diary to chart progress is helpful, something to discuss with a GP or Nurse Practitioner.

My periods waxed and waned for several years: The Change: then they disappeared  ::)

Browse round.

I would try to see a menopause specialist if you can afford it, as it doesn't sound like you have received either optimal treatment or sufficient information from your GP to make an informed decision regarding hormone therapy going forward.

If 50mcg of estradiol, which is a low dose, wasn't controlling your symptoms, then the logical next step would be to increase this. Hormone therapy should ideally be individualised, and often requires several adjustments to find what works best for you.

Also consider whether you are purely seeking palliation of vasomotor symptoms or whether your goals include healthy longevity eg the avoidance of osteoporosis and premature CVD etc.

The most important thing is to educate yourself, the British Menopause Society has some great resources but I would also recommend listening to or watching Louise Newson's material as the NHS leans towards undertreatment and a one size fits all approach.

Whilst you can't control the level of knowledge your GP has (although some are receptive to learning from patients) you can absolutely make sure you are well informed and in the best position to advocate for yourself.
