Title: Diazepam and utrogestan
Post by: Susan456 on November 15, 2025, 07:45:20 AM
First post: need urgent advice please:
I’m on diazepam 2.5mg per day, been taking 5 weeks, want to try utrogestan 100 orally. Have heard horror stories about cross tolerance of benzodiazepines and progesterone.
Am I safe to start utrogestan or should I taper off the diazepam first and wait a bit before starting utrogestan (if so how long?).

Am super sensitive to oestrogen (makes me wired and triggers insomnia), v low dose 1/8th pessary vaginal cyclogest seemed to make me depressed and couldn’t sleep, so unsure if 100 oral utrogestan would be better but I’ve got to try something as terrible insomnia and depression and been off sick from work 6 months. Only alternative offered is low dose seroquel as SSRIS interfere with my PoTs,
Hope you can help.

I would continue with the Diazepam .  Who is over seeing your medication?  This is usually given to ease anxiety and served me well in the 1990s.  2.5mg is low so don't worry about becoming addicted!

When do U take it?  My worst time is early morning.

How does the depression affect you?  Insomnia can be self fulfilling in that we worry more and more about not sleeping.

Oestrogen is our natural hormone, how were U during your menstruating years?  What R your periods up to now?  How old are you and what is PoTs please?
