Title: Dry Eyes
Post by: KBIOW on September 16, 2025, 09:14:51 AM
Hello all,

I have had various issues with my eyes over the last 3 years. Currently I take Cosopt Preservative Free drops twice a day to keep my eye pressures down. Recently I have been suffering with Meibomian Gland Disease/Dry Eye, since the end of August this has got far worse. I went to the hospital last week and I now have to take visco tears every 2 hours until this starts to improve.
I just wondered could it be in anyway related the Evri Conti Patch which I started 1st August. I was under the assumption that this could actually help with dry eye?

Any advice gratefully received.

Thanks

Dry eyes was my first menopause symptom along with achey joints.
Think it's definitely a menopause issue.
I use Hycosan extra or Theolaz eye drops and hycosan night gel.
I was told it can never be cured, just to constantly use drops and heat eye masks etc.
Good luck !!

As oestrogen levels drop the body may become dry: inside and out; deep in the ears, nostrils, eyes, vagina .......... who did U C at the Hospital?

However dry eye in dogs has a long name ......... which requires regular drops .  " Keratoconjunctivitis Sicca (KCS), is a condition where the tear glands produce insufficient tears to keep the eyes moist and healthy" .

Hi KBIOW,

Like Northengirl I use Hycosan drops and Hycosan Night gel on a daily basis. I also use a heated mask every morning (charged by USB not a microwaveable one). I also take Sea Buckthorn oil capsules from Holland and Barratt.

It just becomes another routine, like brushing your teeth, to keep on top of it.

Good luck x

Hi,

I've never got to the bottom of whether HRT has helped my severe dry eye syndrome or not.....

I would love to speak to a specialist who has knowledge of both the Menopause and also Dry eye syndrome.....

Anyway, I am on Oestrogel and Utrogestan and am 53.  I've been struggling with dry eye for a number of years and can no longer wear contacts which is a massive blow as my specs are like milk bottle bottoms...

Anyway, I use a mixture of eye drops throughout the day depending on how my eyes feel, I use Hycosan Intense and Extra, Theoloz Duo and Hycosan night ointment.  I am also on Ikervis which is on prescription from the eye hospital.  I use a warm eye compress at least once a day (should be twice) and gently massage my eyelids afterwards to help unblock oil glands.  I then use a tea tree oil eye wipe afterwards.

I have punctal plugs fitted but am due into the eye hospital on Friday for upper punctal cautery.

I would keep on top of using your eye drops, at times I have had to use mine every 5 / 10 minutes.

I would try a warm eye compress with gentle massage afterwards as long at this is ok to do if you have eye pressure issues?

On my most recent visit to the eye hospital I saw a fabulous Dr who has basically thrown the kitchen sink at my symptoms and this has made a real improvement in my condition.  I was on steroid drops for six weeks and she also gave me antibiotics for three months as she suspected I had eye lash mites (which is so gross to think about but not that unusual apparently)......

So there are plenty of avenues to explore in terms of treatment, just try to keep on top of it and unfortunately it does seem to be pot luck as to how helpful the Dr's are....

I also take Sea buckthorn and Tumeric.

With all of this treatment I finally feel as though I am seeing some improvement and occasional soft contact lense wear is on the horizon for me which will be absoutley wonderful  :)

Hope this helps in some way.

Best wishes.

Most of us have mites in the eyelashes which keep them clean as the mites ..........  :-X  :D.  :thankyou:   I may take up some of your ideas as mine are sore/itch/annoying a lot more recently.

Can't believe you are talking about this today....my eyes are driving me mad last couple days.

I use Evolve dry eye drops(on prescription) did use hyoscan from optican.  Usually when windy gets worse, using my allery nasal spray Beconase or Dymista helps, was going to order Xailin gel but seeing the mention of Hycosan night will try that.

You lot are really amazing on here :)

P.S.  me I am a dried up walnut.....dry eyes - diagnosed!  dry mouth - diagnosed and vaginal atrophy......been in offical drought for years.......wonder why ;D

I know, it was the first thing I googled when I got home from my appointment, eyelash mites, it's just something I would rather have stayed oblivous to  ;D  ;D

If you don't currently use drops, hopefully the introducion of them a couple of times a day will help! Fingers crossed xx

I know the feeling of being all dried up  ;D

Just a little advice, some people don't take to the night ointment as it is not overly moisturing, I make sure I put some eye drops in first, let them settle and then use the eye ointment. Hope this helps x
