Title: Strange / less common symptoms ?
Post by: CLM07 on September 04, 2025, 07:33:01 AM
Good morning, newbie here.
I'm 50 on Sunday and still having a pretty regular period. I have been doing lots of research and reading up on peri men to be prepared over the years.
I am very active and exercise every day with a rest day, I don't eat processed foods, stopped drinking, don't smoke, not really very stressed (exercise is my release)
All the advice in the test books/ website is to do all the above to help with symptoms.
I have been off work for two weeks with extreme fatigue. I've had pins and needles sensation in my arms which then moved to feet and ankles. On occasion maybe soles of my feet burn like I've walked on hot coal. When the p & n settle I have joint pain. It's been two weeks of continuous joint pain and this p & n sensation. For the last two days I haven't slept in the day which shows my energy is improving. But the joint thing is driving me crazy.
All my bloods have come back satisfactory- I was convinced it was b12 def or even Lymes disease (had a tick on holiday from Scotland at the start of summer) . Rh.Arthritis clear.
My GP said - it's probably hormones. Over the years I have been reading up on HRT so agreed it's likely . I started patch on Sunday and replaced on Wednesday - Evorel 50 sequi.
I don't have many of the typical peri men symptoms on the list.
I have read that if I have a cycle
Then I don't need estrogen? I need progesterone - but the progesterone in Evorel is Projestin - which is different ?!
Am I getting to hung up on this?
I read that fluctuating estrogen and progesterone can cause pins n needle sensation and joint pain.
Every morning I wake and suffer and it sets of anxiety - I have never suffered with anxiety or stress and very calm person. I'm worried sick it's a nerve condition.  I'm going back to GP this morning and don't even want to say it out loud.
I'm in a whole new world of anxiety and worry.
Has anyone else suffered from these symptoms ?  I have read a few threads that say HRT helped and the symptoms went away- how long did that take 🤪
Thank you

Hi there

I can relate . I am 59 post menopause bleed 7 years . I suffered these for two weeks worse when sitting in feet; had them all over too including numb perineum / face  worse at night . Had to sleep on my back .. So frightening and I am a nurse . I am waiting neuro scans  as in bed it was horrendous . Possible spine inflammation causing . I also have intermittent sharp lower abdo  pains and bladder issues ( mSU nothing but feels like UTI irritation with trace blood in urine ) left back ache ( thinking kidney or stones related) .I was convinced it was gastro . Could all be related or separate.Lots of tests coming up. All bloods negative . Bowel  screen negative

On a positive note I did try acupuncture two weeks ago two sessions so far weekly . My pins and needles improving very much although still there a little when sitting /in feet . I missed this week and now back little more .  I also tried a chiropractor who thinks I have arthritis starting in spine .( makes sense that inflammation could impede on nerves) My back doesn’t ache other than left flank .

Try not to worry as I think it’s more common than we realise . My anxiety the past 9 weeks has been awful with all these issues . But I am now doing relaxation moves from Thai chi on line videos and eating smaller meals /oestrogen rich foods .

I don’t want the HRT at my age ( maybe I should have to protect the old bones) I thought exercise would be enough along with all the greens I eat which seem to have got me though menopause with Hardly any hot flushes . Maybe those cause stones

I will keep you posted on my outcome but wanted to reassure .

Try not to take yourself down rabbit holes like I did .  We are all in this together and hopefully it will pass for you and myself .  Don’t keep googling symptoms it will make you ill . X

:welcomemm:  Some ladies during pregnancy develop carpal tunnel syndrome which fades away after delivery.  So your symptoms may well be hormonal.

As oestrogen levels drop muscles may become lax = aches and pains.  Also the body may become dry, inside and out: skin, scalp, deep in the ears, nostrils, eyes, vagina ...... browse round, make notes ;-)

Anxiety can be troublesome during peri-menopause.  How did U feel during your menstruating years - R your symptoms cyclical?  Whilst HRT can help, if it's the main symptoms perhaps Propranolol or something calming to enable U 2 C the wood for the trees?

Keeping a mood/food/symptom diary can be useful.
