Title: horrible mornings
Post by: aja on August 20, 2025, 05:16:08 PM
Hi ladies!!
I am 48, starting with hot flashes and my periods are not regular anymore.

But what scares me most are morning anxiety with no reason, jittery with intense bowel movement and hot flash. All at the same time.
I wake at 5 am completely fine. Than I went back to sleep and at 7am I eake up with this attack of strange symptom combination.
It’s worse first five days of my period.

Is there anyone with similar symptoms or anyone who could help me with idea what is going on and what to do?

Is this goung to last through perimenopause or will stay during postmenopause?

It’s horrible and it scares me every morning out of nothing.

Big hug to all menopause sufferers ❤️❤️

Hi and welcome to the forum.
I think you'll find the majority on here who suffer symptoms will tell you morning anxiety is "normal" in peri menopause, it's a cortisol rush, I had exactly the same and it WILL affect your bowels, same as when you get butterflies, you tend to need the loo, so please don't worry, I've no idea how long it will last for you as every single one of us are different, mine lasted about a year but even now at 62 I can still wake with anxiety, almost like a panic attack.
Do speak to a meno savvy Dr or nurse, let them know your symptoms. Xx

Thank you a lot! It calms me knowing that this is ‘normal’ and that Iam not the alien  ;)
But my health provider is quite useless because he wants me on HRT. I tried combo estrogen with progesterone and mirena and was miserable while I was on all these. I have genetics that doesn’t clean out excess of estrogen  and get really bloated on progesterone.
So, they let me take it or suffer it.
That’s why Iam searching for any other solutions and would like to know how do you all cope with that.
Is there any ‘lighter’ natural way of supporting estrogen that works or any other thing.
I would really appreciate any suggestions how do you all manage this.
TIA

People manage in so many different ways but what works for one,may not work for another, symptoms are so wide ranging,my worst was anxiety and low mood, I ended up taking CBD drops, I don't take hrt either, the dr wanted me on ADs but that was a no no as they made me nauseous. Look at the thread for alternative remedies on here,I'm sure you'll find something. :)

Hormones can cause all kinds of bowel reactions.

Mornings R the worse for me, anytime after 3.00 ish.  Cortisol surges = panic attacks as I wake.

Ladies may well experience bowel upheaval at the time of a flush/flash.  4 me; 10 mins B4 a bleed began I would have to dash to the loo, no arguments - even if a period wasn't due.  [Don't stop me now and it wasn't a Good Time  ;)]

What R your periods up to in general?

Thank you for helping me!!!!

My periods are shorter and with weak flow (not as heavy as they were in the past). My cycle was always 28 days sharp, now I alternate 24/35 days.

Nothing special and I have currently no stress in my life, so anxiety attacks are really suprizing me.
