Hi everyone, I'm new here. I'm 48 and not on any HRT. I haven't had a period for almost exactly a year and then 5 days ago started some spotting. It's barely there, but there's a definite pink tinge. I'm imagining all sorts of awful things wrong with me but it could also be normal. Is that right?
Thank you for reading

It could be normal. If you have GSM you can get a little blood from it. In late peri I had a very small amount of blood for several days before it tuned into a proper period so that's also a possibility. I'd wait a few days to see what happens then if you're still worried about it see you gp. Absence of bleeds for a year is just the nhs definition of meno for safety but some women will go longer than a year and then bleed again, either once or several times. If it's GSM it needs treating as it will only get worse without it.

Hello Loubie4 and welcome to the forum.
I agree with Sheila and suggest you wait a few days to see what happens. Your spotting may turn into a period or it may not, either scenario is possible and completely normal.
I had been six months period free when I noticed some spotting and assumed this would be another period but it never materialised. I then continued to be period free and became officially post menopausal six months later.
Wishing you well and take care.

This brings a question up for me,
I haven't had a period for 5 months but had about 5 days where it was a day of brown when I wiped and then 4 days of clear discharge with a bit of blood tinged.
Not sure whether this counts as a period or whether I carry on counting the months?

Hello again ladies.
Mummytron - As I recall the my spotting lasted a few days but then stopped. I wasn't on HRT at the time and I never had another period.
I have always considered that event was just a last gasp as it certainly didn't feel or look like the periods I had been used to.
I hope that helps you in some way.
Take care.
K.

Many thanks for your responses. I really thought it'd be a part of my menopause but I had my FSH levels checked and it was 94 so they've referred me to the PMB clinic. As I suffer with anxiety, I can't imagine how I'm going to get through the next couple of weeks :'(
