Title: Late perimenopause
Post by: Fuzzwhizzer on June 24, 2025, 09:57:48 PM
I think I must be in late Perimenopause. Lately my stomach is horrendously uncomfortable and my back has been yuckily painful too, lower down. Went to one of those pay for it Ultrasounds in Aylsham. I went there before in 2023 they were great. One ovary has follicles but not producing an egg the other one is quiet. Last had a period in Nov2024. Lining is 9.5 mm which seems a bit much but she seemed to think it was ok as I’m in peri and so did nurse practitioner. Got blood tests in a couple of weeks. Doesn’t stop you obsessing about it though does it.

Nope.  It always amazes me how quickly I can go from feeling well to suddenly feeling ill.  With little warning!

How old R U?

9.5mm is more than practitioners seem to like, no HRT yet?

Peri-menopause are the years leading up to the final bleed = menopause.  Though Mother Nature can throw in the curved ball if ovaries have a party!

Which symptom would you like to ease?

Hi! I’m 55 ( 56 next week). I was a bit wary of hrt as it seems beyond me to juggle it all. The back ache and tummy pains grabbed me in autumn 2023 and I had lots of tests cystoscopy ct scan three ultrasounds blood tests wee tests poop tests and nothing then it just buggered off. I had a great 2024 now since the middle of May it’s been back with a vengeance. So achy and rickety. Especially in the tummy and back. The ultrasound people seemed fine because still peri. It’s the back nip that’s really annoying me though.

'Cos I'm menopausal with a forgetful brain, 1st of all :  :hbday: :cupcake:

Unexplained pain can scare us a. lot.  As oestrogen levels drop muscles may become lax = aches and pains.  Also, the body may become dry: inside and out; scalp, deep in the ears, eyes, vagina, beween the toes  ::)

Making sure that your footwear and how you sit for long periods is appropriate as well as finding a pain relief which eases symptoms.  How is your posture overall?  MayBe seeing a physiotherapist to check gait etc. might help.

Thanks CLKD, had a fab birthday ( if exhausting) hauling ourselves around London in the heat! Loved it though. After eight months started another period on Saturday, oo err. Here gotta start counting again. Never mind at least it’ll hopefully ‘Thin me out!’ So to speak. Yes I’ll watch my sitting etc good advice. Husband up A&E this morning he’s got another blooming kidney stone. Hope you’re enjoying the summer sun xxxx

UPDATE: Saw docs last Monday, he was concerned that I’d had no period since November last year then two at once in July. I was waiting for the twelve month thing. He said he was sending me for an urgent ultrasound. Appointment came through for yesterday, which was very quick indeed. Apparently I have a simple cyst on my right ovary ( that may explain some of the discomfort on that side). They said it definitely appears I’m still perimenopausal, which the doctor was unable to realise I think! Also had another extra blood test for something this week. Not sure what. The CA125 was normal. Funnily enough the hospital letter with the appointment on arrived in the post after I’d come back from it yesterday!

You say that you're wary of HRT because you're not sure you can juggle it all... But look at all the stressful doctor's appointments and tests you are having for symptoms which would likely be resolved if you had your missing hormones back...

I did go and see the meno lady at our surgery once and she didn’t seem to think I had any reason to try it. They are a bit intimidating about it and I’m not a wilting type necessarily, but equally I have no way of saying it definitely would help my symptoms. They may have occurred regardless, e.g. hrt  wouldn’t stop me getting a cyst would it. There’s no guarantee it would help.  My hit flushes stopped months ago, I don’t have overwhelming symptoms apart from the back ache and what I guess is cyst pain.

You don't need to have a reason to try it. You just need to ask for it. It's none of their business to justify your 'need' - you do that. You are entitled to get your hormones back. Honestly, the stories I hear...

Of course you don't know if it would help your symptoms yet, that's why you need a trial treatment with it. If you like it, stay on it. If you don't like it, come off it. It's not a permanent decision.

Besides your symptoms, there is also your future health to consider - heart disease, dementia, bowel cancer, arthritis, osteoporosis - all of which estrogen massively reduces the risk of.
