Title: Advice please
Post by: moliver908 on June 24, 2025, 08:59:00 PM
Hi everyone this is all new to me :)
I started the menopause 10 years ago and what a journey.
Every year I think it will go but nope still struggling.
My question is does anyone else get cyclical symptoms like when menstruating?
Over the last couple of years my symptoms such as flushes , mood swings, anxiety, mouth ulcers and digestive issues are happening every 28 days or there abouts. Is this normal and is anyone else suffering?
Welcome any advice

I have certainly heard of postmenopausal women experiencing cyclic symptoms even though they no longer menstruate.

It is probably akin to Pavlov's dogs becoming conditioned to salivate when the bell rang even in the absence of food, or to phantom limb pain.

Hello moliver and welcome to the forum

I have heard other ladies talk about this so perhaps we are on a ghost cycle even though we no longer menstruate.

I am post menopausal and currently taking a break from HRT to see how I feel without it.
I have never used topical oestrogen as my VA symptoms were manageable on systemic HRT.  However my symptoms have  flared up at exactly the same time for the last two months.
This is probably a coincidence but perhaps it's also an indicator of a ghost cycle?
Fortunately the symptoms subsided again, in fact my VA difficulties wax a wane all the time but I will be paying special attention this month to see if it happens again.

Wishing you well and take.

K.

Yes, cyclical symptoms after menopause are real and not unusual. Your body can still have hormone fluctuations, especially from the adrenals. Tracking symptoms helps spot patterns. Talk to your doctor about low-dose HRT or other treatments if it’s tough to manage. You’re not alone.

The ovaries carry on doing 'something' for some time after meno and before they die completely so you can continue to get cyclical symptoms.
