Title: Bleeding on switched patches
Post by: Hello101 on May 25, 2025, 12:06:00 PM
Hi 👋 I was happily using Estradot 100mcg patches with continuous Utrogestan 200mg capsules (vaginally) nightly. When the Estradot shortage hit I switched to Estraderm MX patches which were awful! They stuck to my skin on day 1 but were curling at the edges on day 2 and hanging off by day 3. I had insomnia, massive anxiety and by the end of the first week on them I was bleeding. Then switched to Evorel patches. These stick very well and I feel good on them as I am sleeping well and have no anxiety or hot flushes. However I have been on these around 10 days and I’m now bleeding again! What?! Does that mean I’m not absorbing the oestrogen? I wouldn’t have thought this would happen just with switching brands. Any tips?

Unfortunately because your steady estrogen supply has been interrupted with the less effective patches, consistent with the return of symptoms and bleeding, you are now essentially in the same boat as someone starting new, and may experience some bleeding as your body re-adjusts to having therapeutic estrogen levels.

This should soon settle but might take a few weeks. I would just continue with the patches that are now sticking well and controlling your symptoms, and make sure you remain consistent with the progesterone too.

Thanks. I naively thought as I only changed the brand I’d be okay. Really annoying!
