Hi
I posted on here a few days ago. Out of the blue, I started with continuous ectopic beats and the GP said that my oestrogen was low (without testing). I had started HRT about three months ago and felt really well on it until this started. I increased my oestrogen, probably too quickly - I went from one pump of gel to 3 pumps. I felt awful and went to A&E. Strangely, I stopped the oestrogen before going and the ectopic stopped whilst I was in A&E. They initially told me I had had a heart attack because one of my cardiac enzyme levels was high (it came down in A&E) and then said it wasn’t a heart attack, it was a pulmonary embolism. They checked that and said it wasn’t that but I needed to stay in from monitoring for 24 hours. In the end they kept me in for six days and said I couldn’t go back on HRT until I saw my GP on discharge. I had an echocardiogram which was normal and although the ectopics that I had been having had stopped, I was getting fewer PVCs and very occasional one beat VT. These are the topics that I got before I went on HRT.
They then queried a rare adrenal condition and I’m waiting for the test although in my opinion, my symptoms don’t fit with this – I haven’t had pounding headaches, racing heart and spikes in my blood pressure. My blood pressure was up in hospital but I was very anxious because they had stopped my HRT and I had had no sleep.
I saw the cardiologist privately when I came out of hospital and he started me on bisoprolol said I need to work on getting my oestrogen levels up. The GP finally agreed to take my blood to check my levels and I’m waiting for the results. Given that I started on less than 88 oestrogen three months ago, I’m assuming it will still be low.
I have now been swapped to the spray – one spray a day but have also added in half gel. The palpitations are constant. The anxiety is less because I’ve now started back on progesterone.
I am so exhausted though, and just wondering if this will ever go. Please can somebody give me some hope.

I’ve since found out that my oestrogen levels are less than 88. GP (not the one I usually deal with who is experiencing menopause) said they were totally normal for a post menopausal woman. Surely that can’t be right for a post menopausal women with symptoms who was stopped HRT!

It's great they are being so thorough with you. Palpitations are very common with meno, I've had them for years. My sister like you, couldn't stop hers and eventually went to A&E where they had to re start her heart, to get it back to normal, she was also given tablets (not sure what) and she has been fine ever since
